Hey Bar-Code,

I won't step in on the good Doctor's tutorials. He is a good guy and always does his best to help. I DID want to compliemnt you on your terrific sets. They are wonderfully modelled and offer a great environment with many possibilities.

I just wanted to put in here that sometimes it is simply a mtter of grouping. I was playing with your set, and was trying to get your barrels separated from the floor so I could move them about as separate props. In the Grouping tool, I hit spawn props, and suddenly I could raise the main door using Y-Tran!

Hang in there! Keep up the GREAT work! (FYI, I put in a request to Blues Dragon to see if he would be willing to make a light set for the Sci Fi hall)

Thanks!

Shogakusha

@ Shogakusha

No problem "stepping on my tutorial." 😄  Feel free anytime. ;=]

BTW - I checked out your dojo - Very nice!  👍

==========================================

@ BAR-CODE

FYI -

Spawn Props is basically the opposite of EXPORTing props and then IMPORTing them as a single object.

(in Poser) => Spawn props takes a single object apart according to it's groups and makes a separate object (prop) for each group.

You mean it cuts the part lose from the rest and make it a new part  ?

So if i spawn a barrel it becomes a lose barrel ?

Actually, the Spawn Props will split all groups if I am not mistaken. I tried this and it did make movable barrels in your scene, but it also split the barrel tops from the drums. This could be good or bad

I am a Poser tinkerer. i can usually figure things out, but I am not necessarily a good teacher. I am sure Dr Geep will produce a solid solution for you.

@Geep>> Thanks! I am glad you like my dojo. I really need to update the site though.

Dr Geep would be glad to try and provide a solid solution ... except, I don't know to what you are referring.

Special for Chris,

Your model is EXCELLENT with much attention to detail ...
... however, it is VERY large for use in Poser (it has over 400,000 polygons).

You might want to take a look at the modeling program that you are using to see if you can reduce the number of polygons that are used without sacrificing detail as shown in the attached graphic.

The example shows only one of the many groups in your model.

Hi Chris,

P.S. Another possible way to reduce file sizes is to use .gif texmaps instead of .jpg texmaps.

Note that .gif texmaps are limited to 256 colors so this may not be applicable to your particular situation.

See the attached graphic for an example from your model.

I originally had no intent to make a posable prop but had to peek inside and found this wonderful exchange.

Doctor, the tut pages are easier to read for me too (yes, I have to say the whole alphabet to figure which comes first, 'U' or 'V', LOL).

I'm sorry !!!  :cursing:

I have been trying for about an hour - yes, that almost 60 minutes to get into this thread so that I can post something.

If you would like to continue this tut, please visit Dr Geep Studios (click the link below) and look for the GREEN ticket.

I WILL NOT be making any more posts here in this thread because it usually takes me about 20-30 seconds just to get into the R'osity website and it seems to be taking longer and longer to access almost anything here.

(almost) Every time I have tried to access this thread,  my browser would lock up and i would need to use the Task Manager to End the Process for R'osity then restart the browser and try again. :cursing:

I do not have enough hours in the day to "play" with this anymore. ... I quit !!!
Sorry R'osity ... perhaps I shall try again in another 2-3 months ... maybe ...

If you are interested ... You may follow the rest of this tut on my website.

P.S. Please feel free to email me drgeep@cableone.net with any questions.

just a note to what geep said about using gif's instead of jpg's.....gif's won't work in ProPack or P4. At Poser 5, they finally got the idea to use gif's.

reducing polys.....what program are you using to create the objects with. most of the higher end apps have some sort of optimise, although the name might vary from app to app. This will reduce the number of polys in an object by a variable factor. A little trial and error will let you see how much you can optimise for differant shaped objects. For flat sided, square objects, you can normally optimise quite hard without losing geometry definition. For more complex shapes, you can't optimise as much, because the mesh will deform. And you can't optimise much on curved faces without it starting to appear facetted.

"That which doesn't kill you is probably re-loading"

BAR-CODE ( ) posted Tue, 09 May 2006 at 12:42 PM

I was using 3dMax i switched to hexagon... but still have acces to MAX...

And using GIF is NOT a option the amout of colors is not ok for me.. as i improve my moddeling skill so wil the texture and 256 color is a nono to me :}
