Subject: Advice on Vue 5 program

Chippsyann ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 11:05 AM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 7:28 AM

I’m considering buying “Vue 5” but what I'm looking for is the pro’s and con’s of this program?

Also, will I need to buy any plugin’s to create in Poser and then render in Vue?

Why not try the demo and see if it does what you want?

https://secure.e-onsoftware.com/try/vue_5_esprit/

You would only need the Mover module if you want to import animated poser content with the animation.

From my viewpoint, I bought Vue5 esprit and had nothing but trouble with it so after many discussions with their tech support I upgraded to Vue 5 Infinite and my own personal experience is that this has been much more stable and useable than esprit was!

So if you do take the plunge go for Infinite!

You can import directly Poser pz3 files although I do believe it doesn't like dynamic hair but I've not tried it! I actually use and like poser more!

"Well it's just the rendering part that I'm interested in.

thefixer ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 11:47 AM

I use both P6 and Vue5I and I find the poser firefly engine better for what I want although obviously that is a personal preference and I'm pretty new to Vue so haven't figured out it's render capabilities properly yet.

Hopefully someone more versed in both will be able to assist you better!

Cheers!

If it's only for rendering you may consider Carrara over at DAZ. Cheaper.

vue5 infinate is awesome for rendering!! as it has a way better lights system than poser6!!(e.g.you can add a light in vue and tell it to only light a specific object or figure and it will just light that and not effect your enviromental lighting) you can create and render way more figures and objects and polgon intensive scenery in vue than you will ever manage to render in poser6!!! the render engine is very versatile too in that it has so many options that can be checked or unchecked and levels of quality settings!!!depending on what quality you want or are prepared to wait while it renders for!!!! if you want to check out my gallery you might see an example that inspires you or changes your mind about buying it!!! i would recommend it to you though as i have both vue 5 infinate and poser6 and love them both as they work so well together!!!! you don't need to buy any extra plugins to transport from poser to vue with the infinate version!!!!!!!!!! i could waffle on for ages about the extra stuff you get in vue that you don't get in poser but i'm sure your eyeballs are aching already reading this waffle(LOL)

I have both vue5pro and Carrara5pro and I use both for rendering, but I never render in poser. I import all my poser stuff into these other programs. The lights and rendering are so much better for me. Love esther

I think there is a deal with Vue too, or at least for me because I have Vue4. What I'm trying to figure out is which program to spend money on: Vue5 or Carrara5? I would like a better, more stable render engine, with the ability to match lights to photos, mirror reflect, use displacement, and have haze/fog/volumetric lights that behave like real lights. bB

Ajax ( ) posted Fri, 26 May 2006 at 10:09 PM

Vue currently has no displacement, so if that's one of your criteria, go with Carrara.  I have Vue5Inf and Carrara5Pro.  They're both great apps, but overall I'd probably say Carrara was a better choice.  The main things vue does better are plants and infine terrains.  Vue's plants really do look a lot more realistic.  Also Vue can do things like animate wind in the branches.

It makes fantastic water (Above & below + you can network your render if you ha anothe computer)and is worth it just for that alone ;-)

RealDeal ( ) posted Sun, 28 May 2006 at 1:19 AM

I bought the Poser 6, Vue 5, Mover 5 bundle a couple of months ago; everything works together perfectly, I literally have no complaints about how the programs work together.
If you are wanting to do animation using poser figures, it's the best way to go.

Phantast ( ) posted Mon, 29 May 2006 at 10:25 AM

I like Vue 5i, but it does have some problems.

One (a very stupid one) is that you can't copy and paste materials without destroying material zones. Suppose you have imported a Poser model with bracelets and a necklace, and you have made a nice silver for the bracelets, and you want something similar for the necklace. You would expect you could copy the material to the necklace and then edit it a bit. You can't. Vue welds together instantly anything with the same material, so any new changes you make to the material will affect both items. There is a workaround, but it's tedious.

Another one is that with a couple of V3 figures loaded, Vue 5 leaks resources with every action until the program crashes. Even if all you're doing is shifting the camera around. Every so often I have to save, quit and restart. With a heavy scene this may be every twelve actions or so. Very irritating.

Vue is very buggy, get Carrara instead. I've stopped using Vue 5, it's awesome slowness and bugs drove me crazy in the end. I now have Carrara 5 Standard with the TransPoser plugin. It's much cheaper, rock solid, excellent features, great rendering, excellent poser import. Carrara standard has way more features then Vue 5 (Pro) and even has some of the Vue Infinite features. Also consider that Vue 6 seems to be coming in the near future. Vue 5 still has many bugs, but knowing E-On (I've used Vue from version 2 through 5), as soon as Vue 6 is being released the work on Vue 5 will slowly die leaving you with an bugged application in the end. I'm very glad I switched to Carrara, don't have to put up with a bugged, slow, troublesome anymore.

aeilkema, does Carrara 5 have a demo version that I could try?

aeilkema ( ) posted Tue, 30 May 2006 at 1:18 AM

Attached Link: Carrara Demo

Yes, at eovia you can download the demo. It's the pro-version only, but it's very close to the standard version.

But don't buy Carrara there you need to buy it at DAZ, it's on sale there, they've got a Poser Crossgrade and it saves lot's of money. Sale is ending tommorow......

If you have PC membership it works out at about $99, which is quite a bargain! To think I was considering shelling out about $250 for it a few months ago (I think that was the price then).

There is a known issue in Vue with very large textures (as is common with V3 characters). If you scale, the problem goes away most of the time. Of course, this could be an issue with the ultra-near-her-breathing-is-fogging-the-lens-of-the-camera shot, but for other uses it is quite acceptable.

I'm sure it reduces the problem, but does it eliminate it?

Also, it makes for an unwelcome hassle if you have to go through your collection of Poser textures and reduce them all in size from hi-res to lo-res.

manoloz ( ) posted Tue, 30 May 2006 at 10:54 AM

It does for me.
As for editing textures and stuff, I seldom use things out of the box, but for those who do, I agree, it can be an unnecessary inconvenience.
Vue6 should address that problem (and others). I hope!

Vue5 should address the problem. At that price, I don't expect buggy software, and I certainly don't expect to have to buy a whole new version to get the bugs fixed.

I agree with Phantast that Vue 5 bugs should be fixed in Vue 5.   To have to pay once for a product and then pay again for a version of it that works is not acceptable, BUT...

...my experience of Vue and Carrara doesn't quite coincide with a lot of the preceding comments.   I'd say that V5I is more stable than Carrara and just as good at importing Poser material;  both tend to lose some Poser textures, so neither is ideal.   I have found bugs in Transposer 2 and the native importer for Carrara 5.   The original Transposer contained more bugs than the average rain-forest.

Furthermore, the vendor's attitude to Transposer seems to have been, up until now, exactly the one that E-on is accused of in this thread, i.e. fixing bugs only in the next release.    What is Transposer 2, if not a roll-up of long overdue fixes for Transposer?

Lets face it, getting Poser scenes out of Poser, into another 3D app is still a HACK.

If you are dealing with single frames or still scene's both apps might be worth the effort for the additional functionality and rendering options.

Want a great all around 3D app - go with Carrara.

Want a app that is really great at doing landscapes and really large scenes - get Vue.

Both apps, (I have them) seem preety stable in their own enviornment.

ADD POSER - bets are off.

ADD Poser Animation, Carrara can't handle it - VUE ain't much better (but is at least workable).

You and me must be using different applications. I've imported numerous Poser scenes and Carrara is still rock solid. I've even imported scenes with over 10 figures & microcosm landscapes & trees & a good number of props and it worked great.

Carrara can't handle Poser animation? I've imported a good number of animated Poser models by now and they all worked fine.

My experience with Vue is the other way around, always trouble with animated files and large poser scenes are no go.

Vue5 should address the problem. At that price, I don't expect buggy software, and I certainly don't expect to have to buy a whole new version to get the bugs fixed.

Don't get your hopes up.... A number of Vue 2 bugs, were fixed in Vue 3, but not on Vue 2. A number of Vue 3 bugs, were fixed in Vue 4, but not on Vue 3. A number of Vue 4 bugs, were fixed in Vue 4, but not on Vue 5. E-On has the habit of doing that and I got tired of always being forced to buy the next version of Vue to get annoying bugs fixed.

And that's why e-on are going to be losing out seriously to Carrara now, especially with Daz promoting it to the Poser community.
