It's a membership site, not a freebie site.
Those that buy a membership have access to sevearl hundred items at no additional charge, for as long as they are an active member.
It's well worth the money.

Errr I think you miss read the page, they aren't "free", they are "royalty free" - huge difference.
They do have a freebie page though - http://www.poserworld.com/Free.aspx

I have a lifetime membership to PoserWorld. There are tons of clothing, props, scenery, vehicles, etc. there and new ones are added all the time. The clothing is made for many different characters from Posette, to the Millennium People (new baby included) to Miki and many others. PoserWorld is often the FIRST site to offer clothing for characters when they make their initial debuts. All of it is quality stuff and they've even been working on converting some of the older stuff to fit the new characters. The types of items run from American Western to Middle Eastern to Biblical to Outer Space and about everything in between. There are common everyday items and totally fantasy ones.
...and no, Steve and company didn't pay me to write this :b_tonguewink:
Poserworld stuff aren't freebies. Imagine if you paid a flat fee to DAZ and say, for one month, you could download absolutely anything on the site. That's how Poserworld works. Once you buy a membership you can download absolutely everything there. The stuff there is definitely up to the standard of any other stuff you could buy here, DAZ or any other site.
It's a fantastic deal and as soon as I have the money together I will get a lifetime membership.

That's an excellent comparison! PoserWorld could do what Renderosity and Daz does, and offer a freebie area and then a store where you buy individual items.
But instead they opted to make it where you pay a membership and then access EVERYTHING they have made for all kinds of different figures at no additional cost to you other than what you paid for the membership.
I was skeptical at first too, and I had bought a 3 month membership to try it out. I was totally amazed at all of the items that I had access to.

You only pay a one-time fee for membership and that entitles you to unlimited downloads of everything they have ever offered, plus acess to their forums, etc. without having to pay any more money.

i'm not a member (yet), but $20 for a 1 month subscription doesn't sound like much to try out the site -- consider how quickly $20 are spent at DAZ or here; surely one can find something worth that much among 2300+ items, even if the site turns out not to work to one's satisfaction for a longer term.
there is a sale on, too, through may 31st -- 1 year membership $35 instead of $60 (and those subscription rates apparently go up in july). hm. i might just go for that. gotta check out more of those previews. i tend to prefer individual sales because i am a picky buyer, but with that many items i'm bound to get my money's worth anyway.
The other important differences, B-C is that all of the items you get from Posewrworld are of consistant, commercial quality, made by Steve Shanks an excellent modeller. The site is updated with new items approximately once a week give or take (longer lead time usually means bigger and better additions). Finally, since you purchase the items you can use them for commercial renders, something forbiddin by many, maybe even most, free stuff providers.
There is also a forum there as well, and Steve is usually very gracious and prompt about building requests.
They do (or did, I haven't looked lately) occationally offer a free item on their opening page. Also I think there is a regulaar store where some of their items can be purchased individually. I'm not sure about these last 2 items however, I've been a lifetime member for years... the best $100 Christmas present I ever got! so I usually go straight to the "what's new" page.

Oh, nice! My 3 month subscription just recently ran out so I'll definitely be getting the reduced 1 year! Thanks for the heads up.

In case you haven't seen it they have a catalog in PDF format near the bottom of the right column on this page :

Great site - my subscription runs until 2099 - but I keep wondering why Steve insists on using a light blue diffuse colour (instead of white) for his textures , his answer to this question was rather evasive ...
Just want to jump in and say that PoserWorld is the best membership you can have... A very simple example, that you won't have here (or at least not so fast): two years ago, I asked Steve to do a little model for me (a baby bed for my new born daughter). The next day, it was available.
PoserWorld is not free... but once you have the membership, you can get everything... And don't forget, if you buy the lifetime membership, you get all the previous CDs, with all their products.
If you buy the Platinium Club at DAZ, you can buy 75 quality products for 150$.
At PoserWorld, for 150$ (new Lifetime Membership), you will get all the products.. And it's not 150 products... but thousands of products...
"otherwise am i the only one who thinks it stinks when you have to pay for freestuf ?"
What 'freestuf'?
Who said anything about freestuf?
Think of it this way, instead of having to pay for each individual item as, for example, in the marketplace here. At PosaerWorld you pay a single subscription and then you can have EVERYTHING.

Which is why I'm a Poserworld lifetime member... and not a Daz Platinum member.

That's only for lifetime membership, you pay by the month or 3 months or year or lifetime. With lifetime you never pay again, but the rest are all time limited. Actually one of the best sites out there. Whenever a new character comes out you can pretty much bet that Steve is making new items for them.
mathman go to www.poserworld.com then hit the FREE button at the top and it should take you to a Miki freebie, a complete outfit. If you can't get in you may have to use a different browser. It is the main webpage that tells about the company and the items and how to sign up but you shouldn't have to sign up to get the freebie. If you can't get in I will try to get hold of Steve to see what is wrong.
Marque, what I meant was unlimited access fo the duration of your membership.
So if you get a one month membership then for a month you have unlimited download priveleges, but the lifetime mebership will give you access for as long as PW continues to exist.

In as much as the afore mention question.. pay for freebies. a year, possible two now, PW did have a free section the was accessable to the general populace, no subscription required. It didn't change too often but allowed people to get an idea of the products. I'm not sure if that is still avalible or not, haven't been there for awhile.
I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.
I have a lifetime membership and I'm happy with it. They cover a range of characters, which is nice. I bought the Mill Girls just to get Handspan Studios "Taiya" character so it was nice to just grab some clothing at PW. And it's much better now than it used to be since the zips now contain the paths. When I first signed up and with the older stuff, you had to manually place everything.
And yes, they have forums. If you want something you can make a request to Steve.

O.o Even for my poor (= usually empty) wallet it does sound like a wonderful deal.

If i could only have one subscription, it would be to PoserWorld. Why? Because many times i have looked for 'that certain item' that just HAS to be in a scene only... and i mean ONLY... to find it at PoswerWorld. On top of that you can add the great service and prompt replies to emails. Great site, worth every penny.
Jack
Strange! I used to be a member of poserworld and had problems entering the site, even as a paid up member.
I think it's a good deal as they have plenty of updates, but surely it might be better to be able to choose exactly what you want rather than lots of things you don't want. I would quite happily be a Daz platinum member if that discount scheme were $5 per item, but included ALL their products.
Speaking as a modeler there has to be a limit to what can be free or even cheaper owing to the enormous amount of time and effort that goes into making these things. I have made lots of freebies and folk would be surprised how long they take to make - or in my case keep remaking until they are reasonably ok. It's all very hard work and very frustrating:).
I'm a lifer too. Good till 2099. It's the best spent money I have on all this CG stuff. The main thing is, you can use the stuff for commercial work, unlike most of the free stuff you find around here.
There usually is a free outfit for everyone. It changes every week or so when they have time or remember.
the thing i don't like about "freebies" (nothing to do with poserworld) is when people say "here's a link to the new wonderful free thing i made" and everyone runs to download it, then - when you read the readme (and probably a lot of people won't read it because they think it's a nice free thing) and the readme says not for commercial render (sometimes it just says not for commercial which is even less clear). i think people who post freebies which have riders on what you can do with the renders should state it clearly when they post a link to their freebies. once something gets into my runtime it's hard to find all the bits again to remove it, not to mention the extra work involved. love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
that's true but if you accidentally instal it it is a minor problem Actually my personal opinion is that if a 'freebie" has riders on what you can use your own renders for, then it shouldn't be called a frebbie. And furthurmore I think a lot of people see the word freebie and just assume they can use their renders for whatever they like as long as they don't redistribute the model. Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
I don't know what others do, but I will not unzip a file to directory. I won't even let a Daz .exe do it. I have a dummy folder for Daz .exe and I use "extract to folder" for zips. I want to know where I'm placing those files and what is in them and or rename them before I do that. This also let's me toast those .rsr files or lets me know where they are so I can open Poser, let it generate the .png version and then I can go to that file and delete the .rsr's then.
Yep beryld that's wise. I don't mind leaving the rsrs as I copy my runtime to my PC and also have poser 6 installed on my PC. I think if people see the words not for commercial they just assume that applies to the model and not to their renders. Love esther

.rsr files aren't necessary once a .png file has been created?! Does that apply to ALL .rsr files?

I'm thinking it probably only applies on mac computers. Love esther

Just found this thread, gotta say thanks to everyone for explaining to Chris. Chris can i just ask what made you think we are charging for freebies, coz if thats an impression we are giving then we need to change it.....For the folks having trouble getting to the front page, i'll get that looked into ASAP but in the mean time you can get our freebie......Thats a free model for FREE not free that we charge for (Sorry couldn't help it :o) from the link in this message.........its for Mikki BTW.......SteveCaveat on deleting .RSR files. :scared: The .rsr files in the libraries section are okay to delete for P5 & P6 but I think there are some in the Geometry folder (Please someone correct me if this is the wrong folder) that you NEVER want to delete. This is for PC version of Poser. I don't know about MAC.
With regard to .rsr files, there are 2 other .rsr files that get forgotten about too. They are both in the main Poser folder, Poser.rsr and Asiport.rsr and it's worth backing up the Poser.rsr and setting it to read-only. Deleting those two will probably break your Poser.
I also vouch for Poserworld, I joined pretty much purely for the scenes and felt I had more than my moneys worth as for me the rest was just gravy! :)
