Subject: New Galleries are here!!!

Lyne ( ) posted Sun, 18 June 2006 at 4:07 AM · edited Sun, 18 June 2006 at 4:21 AM

Okay I have gone through the experience of uploading an image to the gallery.  Because I had to use the script created by somebody else for your web site apparently I cannot see the list of merchants.  It seems to be white on white and unless I put my cursor in the area of where a word must be so that it sort of highlights I can't see anything to choose.  This is certainly not the fault of the script Creator, there are just too many areas of colors and fonts etc. for someone to write the perfect script.  And since I have no other place to get a script then it appears that for the script I have chosen to use your merchants will not get credit links.

I've also done some searching around to find out what all those things are at the top of my gallery.  The statistics seemed utterly useless and silly to me.  Can the general public see these statistics as well?  I would think that they should better remain private.

I found a link to my gallery so that I can then send a shortcut to my desktop that will have the proper URL.

I do think there is an awful lot of things to fill in just to upload an image.  I do not do art that contains a violence or nudity but now I'm prevented from uploading unless I say none in that field.  I suppose this is for all the people who have been forgetting to flag their nudity images, but for me it's just an additional thing that I have to remember.  On the whole uploading is a much more complicated process now.

By the way in writing this post I am using the default size font instead of even selecting "small" and still when I get to the end of his sentence I can't see it-it's below the bottom scrollbar for a while.  I don't even know why there's a horizontal scrollbar in the field?  Why is the field that I am typing into not large enough for your own default size font?  Why do I have to use a horizontal scrollbar to see my own words as I type them in?  Can't your programmers make the posting field larger horizontally?  The field above where someone has already posted is twice the size. Eidting is a real headache!!!

PS is there still a site wide slow down? When clicking from my e-mail notice to come back here even for an image posted today it takes forever suddenly, and even to open the large version of the image takes a long time.  They are still under a thousand visitors according to yours to statistics.

Life Requires Assembly and we all know how THAT goes!

The ebots are working again. So glad that they solved the problem.

Thank you all.

Lyne,

Please read the information in the FAQ in this Forum it might help answer some of your questions.

The homepage will be converting sometime early next week.

The information on your Summary page is just for you, no one else sees that. On this page at the bottom you will also find the new URL to your gallery.

You get to your Favorites by clicking the MY FAVORITES link.

Thanks

There is some good news, at least.

Line breaks in comments are possible again. Thanks! Now I can separate my comments into paragraphs, something that I really missed since HTML got disabled in the comment box.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

I can only echo what practically everybody is saying about the cropping of the images once you have clicked on a thumpnail. Please revert to the old mode.

Reasons: The cropping destroys the visual impact of the very first view. Until last week all you saw was a little thumpnail that gave you an idea of the actiual image and made you curious. One click and you had the image in its entire glory on your big screen - we all tend to buy big screens because we love to have our images large, right? Now you get an inferior preview of the entire image and the initial chance to give a good impression is squandered.

I also prefer to scroll up and down between the large image in all it's glory and the comments. I prefer the image to cover my entire screen and to read comments by using my mousewheel. Now I can't do that any more. I get an inferior shadow of the real thing and below comments with distracting avatars. If I want to look at the real picture in it's intended size I have to click and scroll between different view windows.

That's a huge step back in terms of user friendliness and the joy of browsing galleries.

I also don't like the bombardment with unwanted info junk  once I move my cursor ocross thumpnails. It's simply the opposite of relaxation.

I also hope that once you have fixed everything  Renderosity will bother to  implement my time-tested color-setting. I spend one or two hours with  CSS to rectify the color changes in the  gallery. However, Renderosity  doesn't apply any color settings of mine to my new home page. My new home page also doesn't contain any of my inages, no gallery images and no text of mine. My old home page still has allt this, apart from the fact that it doesn't contain any images any more!

Summing up: I have no community home page any more, I have horrible color settings I can't even change, gallery use is annoying through cropped views - oh yes, and browsing is impssible for all practical purposes because  the site takes forever to display anything.

I hope the speed issues will be resolved soon, but what about the rest?

How will this be rectified? Do I have to rebuild my community homepage as a result of these "improvements"?

Thanks,

Lookoo

Well, I got another ebot, and I posted a comment, but it's not showig up. I try to comment again and get this message: "You have already commented on this image and cannot comment twice." Sigh

danamongden ( ) posted Tue, 20 June 2006 at 9:30 AM

On ebots, I'm getting them consistently for forums and for receiving comments, but not for new images by favorite artists.  Strangely, I'm getting them for some of the artists, but only a modest fraction.  A quick scan of some of their galleries (RGUS, awadissk, etc.) shows they have been posting, but I have not received any notices for their images, even though they are still listed on my Favorite Artists page.

So, while the ebot notifications are back on and working, they're not 100%.  Let me know if there's any details I can provide to help track this down.

I seen there was new post in this thread and clicked on page 7 but only seen this reply box. When back to page 6 but there were no new post. Then I click on page 7 again 25 old post and 4 new post. I have seen this happen more then once where clicking on the last page will not bring up any post and only the reply box.

hewee ( ) posted Tue, 20 June 2006 at 2:11 PM

Not only that but when I posted the post above it showed up on page 7 but I seen a 8 so after looking at page 8 I see only one post and it is the post above that is now on page 8.

cujoe_da_man ( ) posted Tue, 20 June 2006 at 2:25 PM

well, I've recieved bots for about 50% of my usual favorites, but my second "test" account didn't get some of the ones that my current account is getting.  But at least it's starting to look up, so I can't complain too much, I;m jsut glad that the problem is being looked at.  However, on a side note (or this may be totally off topic), what do we do about our statistics?  Mine says I have nothing uploaded since I joined in 2000.  Is this just a temporary thing becuase of the change over?  It's not a big deal, I'm just picky that way :P  Thanks for the work so far.

Jumpstartme2 ( ) posted Tue, 20 June 2006 at 4:01 PM

Yes, the stats are in 'temp mode'..once the complete conversion is finished, all will be well 😉

The popup info box for each gallery image is by far the most annoying and worthless "feature" I have ever encountered on any forum!  I found that if I disable Javascript in my Firefox browser, it goes away, but then I also lose the ability to enlarge/zoom an image.  It detracts from the whole gallery experience and tells me nothing I need or want to know.

Please tell me that someone will reconsider that "feature" and give us the option to disable it.

I can see that a lot of people don't like the popup, but the reason why escapes me completely (apart from those suffering the 'flashing' incompatability with IE image tools).

There is a good half-second delay between cursor-thumbnail first contact and popup display. This means you can move your mouse all over the screen without it coming up. It also means that you can click on a thumbnail and open the image display page without seeing the popup. If the popup does display, it goes off the instant the cursor is moved off the thumbnail. It even goes off automatically after a short period should you suddenly lose the ability to control your mouse. And when you do want to see the popup, you can position it away from the image.

Are some folks browsing the thumbs by moving their cursor over them as they go, or something; like a kid reading? I mean, I have the hand-eye coordination of a window impacted bird, and I can look through the thumbnail pages without seeing the popup at all. It's not even a conscious effort - I've always kept the cursor away from the thumb because I don't like the silly pointy-hand thing stuck in front.

Now I'll admit that the popup contains way more information than my needs (I'm only vaguely interested in dimensions and image size), but it's pretty easy to just not read the rest.

So come on, someone explain to me what the big deal with the popup is.

I completely agree, PJF, and can't understand all the commotion over it either.  I've actually come to like it.

PJF ( ) posted Wed, 21 June 2006 at 3:28 PM

There is now an option to not display the popup, so everyone should be happy. Well, I suppose some people might start complaining about the sudden lack of image information... ;-)

lingrif ( ) posted Wed, 21 June 2006 at 6:32 PM

I'm thrilled with the option!  Thanks so much.

LOLOL!!!

Adding a thank you for the new galleries. Just uploaded something today and was thrilled to be able to choose to 'resize' or not. I figure, if people like the smaller version enough, they'll click the biggie. ;)

Also... FINALLY I can preview everything before upping it to the gallery! Rendo RULES!

This thread is becoming impossible to read! :( So many changes, so many complaints, and so much of it has been addressed, it is impossible to find out what still needs to be fixed, what is being addressed, and when will it all be concluded!

Things I still find needing to be addressed/fixed:

I use to be able to go to another Members Homepage and see their Favorite Artists & Images. Will this be back as it was with their Profile & Bio?????

Since I am not buying anything from Renderosity until this conversion is completed (my way of boycoting the whole affair), when will this be????? Lots of promisses to get things fixed, but I see no completion date on when it will be!

On an up note, I am happy with what has been done, and the speed in which it is being done! I don't expect things to be perfect, but it would be nice when all the confussion disappears! ;)

Angelsinger ( ) posted Fri, 23 June 2006 at 12:02 PM

Hey... I didn't realize I couldn't browse people's favorites anymore. : ( Maybe because I spent too much time poking around all the new changes.

I can't quite remember how things were before, but in the past, were we not given options to:

  1. visit a member's homepage,
  2. view their gallery,  AND
  3. send an IM

simply by clicking their username anywhere throughout the site? I could have sworn that there were (at least) 3 such links that appeared if you clicked someone's name... Could be mistaken...

AnyHOO, I would like to minimze some hunting around with these possibilities. Maybe I'm just lazy. lol
