Is there a free bat model somewhere? also a need a free pterodactyl model.

both must be in a 3d format that bryce 5.5 can import.

The flying kind of bat not a baseball bat. I'm woking on a night sky for sky challange and need a bat mesh  a free pterodactyl mesh  to help the scene out. Has to be a model not a photoshop brush. No  free bat model after one hour looking on WWW.

help please with link or send email a model to digitaldaydreams@gmail.com
Also the author must be known so I can  give credit to the author  in text part if I use it.

Thanks

There's a pterosaur at

I'm not sure about a bat, I've not come across one, I use Noggins Poser bat.

Bats are fairly flat creatures.  If you just want a profile against the sky you could work with a black and white photograph, bring it into the terrain editor and invert it.  If you search google images you'll find a suitable one that can be turned into a terrain and dickied up enough to look good in the distance.

This one is even the right way around, colour-wise...

Here's one I did quickly from that photograph (excuse the moon, couldn't find a moon texture).  I lowered the contrast on the image, blurred it, and made it into a terrain.  For distant bats it might suffice?

Kathye thanks for the pterosaur link, just what I needed
pogmahone: Thanks
I May do that or use use zbrush if there isn't a freebie bat model out there, I would think with the billions and billions of webpages out there, there would be one with a free bat model.

I searched for a freebie bat model myself once - didn't find one - they all seem to cost a lot.

I did start to make one but forgot why when I had all the hassle with its' wings - never did finish it.  I ought to have another go some time.

PS - would you like something similar for the pterodactyl?

Thanks for the bat file
I have the pterodactyl covered.

I'm ready to finalize my image over the weekend I think.

This is as far as I got with my bat, looking at it again it seems a pity that I can finish it off, but I got stuck with the menbrane wings and his neck/shoulder region looks too long to me... only without starting all over again I couldn't see how to fix it.  Mind you even WITH starting all over again I couldn't do better, I'd probably get to exactly the same stage... after a month or two...  I just don't seem to be able to visualise how to get from the beginning (cylinder) to the end (- nice bat)

You can see where the wing problem is - under his elbow.  Here's the wire:

I'm not that great with Wings (if that's what you're using) but could you not select the point in the problem area, extrude it, then select all the radiating lines and delete them?  That would get rid of the triangles, and give you four-sided faces, and soften the area.

Er... I'm not sure what you mean by extrude the point, in which direction?  Anyway doing that (extrude/normal) just gives you a whole slew of extra points and edges to cope with, not less.

It might be easier to just move the verts into a better position and then disolve some of the excess edges... but I think I need to post this dratted bat in the Wings forum again.....

Anyway thanks to this thread for the impetus to look at my bat again.

If you extrude normal, then delete the extra lines you get rid of the three-sided faces, and can then shape the extra face you've gained.  It might get rid of the pinching you've got at the moment.  Worth a try anyway - you can try it, and just not save the file if it doesn't work out.

Hmmm... I'll give it a try with the earlier model, just to see the difference.  Thanks.
