Members have always been restricted to deleting/editing their own posts within 15 minutes of posting them. After that, they can't. It has always been this way (or at least it has been for the past couple years, since well before the changeover). This is because being able to delete/edit a post at any time would potentially make many threads no longer make sense, and could pose problems when one member complained about a TOS violation and the violator deleted/edited before the moderator could get around to fixing it, etc. We will not be changing the way this works. This is a permanent feature. If for intellectual properties reasons you want one of your posts deleted, you can send it to a moderator and I'm sure they will be more than happy to do so for you. N

Editing posts has been restricted to fifteen minutes from the time of posting a message, but you could indeed delete your posts at any time before the recent forum changeover. I've done it myself on one occassion and I have read many, many threads where this had been done (it would just state "Message deleted by username). Often it was the first message that was deleted and sometimes that meant you couldn't even tell what the whole long thread was about.
Whether that was a good policy or not can be debated, but to say it was always prohibited after the first 15 minutes is just plain incorrect...sorry...

That's true. Until the new system wass installed, I've deleted posts long after the fifteen minute limited. The moderators were always able to view deleted posts should there be discussions about TOS violations, so that argumen is not logical. I didn't have a vote in the new system so I know it doesn't matter what I think, but one shouldn't depend on revising history in order to defend it.
I concur, with the old forum you could indeed delete your posts at any time, it was only the edit function that was restricted to 15 minuets, I understand why that is in place.
You could also just delete images and leave the post as it is, I think it is the images that are the issue here, and the same thoughts had also crossed my mind, maybe one day I will find time to find all the url’s
It dose seem strange to me that deleting images from a post has been disabled with the upgrade. This is the only place I know of where you can’t remove your own images from a forum post.
Even stranger is that the programmer doesn’t even remember that this was possible in the past.
They wouldn’t have made the cane if you weren’t meant to break the rules
Hi Nilla,
Just email me (stacey@bondware.com ) with any URL's with images in posts you made that you would like deleted and I'll be happy to take care of these for ya.
Thanks
ModestyB,
as per Stacey's response to Nilla, compile a list and send it to Stacey who will take care of it for you.

I is nice to see everyone working together in such a spirit of cooperation here. The question as to why we cannot delete them ourselves anymore is still not answered though, and I would like to hear the reasoning behind it, if it isn't too much trouble. Thanks. ~Kort

Yes Stacey, I am just wondering why with the new format, that is no longer possible.
Kort Kramer - Kramer Kreations
Well as for deleting forum posts, the reason is because if posts get deleted either at the beginning or middle of a thread it can for the most part cause the thread not to make much sense. And in the past unfortunately we had members that would post personal attacks in a thread then go back and delete them after some time had past so people were able to see the attacks and start responding then the thread would get derailed.
Hope this helps explain some reasons behind this change.
Thanks
So if in the heat of the moment somone makes a comment they later regret, they can't retract it? I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem to be a good idea. I can understand about those threads not making as much sense have seen a number of them in my time, but still, I think the ability to retract a statement is a good thing. You can delete a comment in the galleries, so why not in the forum? Admittedly, the Forum is more context sensitive, but I don't see how it is that much different. No big deal, but I do think the reasoning behind doing this is a bit sketchy. But there is a lot of positive to focus on here at RR so let's do that, shall we? Thanks for explaining Stacey. :)

I don't care about the inability to delete forum posts. I think it's a good idea that we can't do that after 15 minutes even though I have been guilty of deleting posts in the past, but not for reasons of flaming.
However, I would like to see the ability to delete images in our posts returned.
It's more work for the mods/admins to be given links to a list of posts that contain images and go and delete them, when it would be far faster and easier for us as the poster to just be able to go and click "delete image". That would delete the image, but not the post, something we were able to do prior to the forum change over.

I'm with Acadia on this one, I occasionally delete a post, but generally because I post then realise that it doesn't add anything to the discussion.
As for deleting images, the only ones I post in threads are quick how-tos etc, so I'm easy.

Ignore the shooty dog thing.
Yes, that is a solution, though more convoluted than it needs to be if we still had the ability to just do it within RR.
Kort Kramer - Kramer Kreations
That's the whole point, TwoPynts. :tongue2: We don't have the ability to do it within rendo, and saying we want to be able to remove an image isn't accomplishing anything in the meantime. At least there is an alternative to give folks a measure of control.
I find it quite easy. My online images are organized into specific folders, and if I want to remove something here, I can easily delete the image and be done.
I agree, it is better than no solution. Not everyone has access to online storage or the technical know how. Thatnks for pointing that out though.
Kort Kramer - Kramer Kreations
Obviously, my solution wasn't a retroactive one, as no one can go back in time and change how they provided images, even if external linking had been a possibility at the time. What I suggested is for now.
Edited to add to Simon: Maybe if enough people pipe up, they'll allow that old option of deleting / editing links. : )

With the OLD forum setup, we had the ability to delete our posts at anytime. Now it seems that this option is no longer available to us. You made removing our galleries quite easy (thank you), but for some reason... done away with the delete message feature in the new forums. WHY?
The reason I'm bringing this up is that I've posted a number of photos/images (my intellectual Property) in the photo forum and I no longer wish for these images to be available for viewing on RENDEROSITY.

If I request my posts be deleted, especially those containing MY images, this should be honored, according to the above text.
Please Note: If the delete message option was currently available, I would have NO PROBLEM deleting my own stuff! Unfortunately....I can't!?!
So, you can see my predicament here and why this question is being raised.
I'm sure there are other members out there, who may be wondering about the same thing and what the OFFICIAL PROCEDURES are regarding the removal of posts/images in forums.
I figured the CC forum would be the best place to ask this.
Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
