Does anyone know where I can find a texture template- or a seam guide- for P5 Don?

You could map one of your own from the free version of UV Mapper.
In fact you can make a template from any object file with UV Mapper.

Okay... hadn't thought of that. Usually when I try to export a figure as an obj something goes wrong. I'll try it and see.

This P5 figure has three maps - body, head, and eyes.  What you have is all 3 overlaid.  Try exporting the parts for each map separately

UV Mapper Classic won't seperate and export seperately. I've tried.

Doesn't a texture map for this figure already exist somewhere???

Actually UV classic will separate and export separately, but it is very tedious.

You should export from Poser the figure section that corresponds to the map you want to make.

You might try Content Paradise since it is an e-frontier product.  The P5 Don never gained enough support to motivate anybody to make anything for it.

You mean if I want a map of his body, I have to export his body and make a map for just that?

JunkoH, I don't mean to sound mean- and I hope trhis doesn't sound that way, But that's crazy.

I'll try it, but it sounds crazy.

You are going to need three different maps so you have to use an object for each body part.  I don't see whats crazy about that.  A head is usually mapped separately from a body because of the level of detail required.  If you wanted a head and body on the same map it would have to be 7-8 times larger to maintain the same level of detail.  The eyes are mapped separately because they are spherical and inside the body.

UVMapper classic allows you to hide faces, and when exporting a template, to exclude hidden faces.

For some reason the system won't take the head template.

I have tried at least six times and the system flat out refues to upload the damn template. I don't understand. It's in jpg format, it's only 800x562, 149kb, but it will NOT upload.

it's an interesting point about the relative resolutions of head and body maps. they had the same resolution until p4, when the "big-head" versions started appearing on newer models. the downside to the differing resolutions is that the body and head textures can't match fine detail, on close-up.

I've been trying for the last ten minutes to upload the head template.  I click on browse, I click on the file,I click on post reply- and only my text message is posted. If anyone needs the head template, they'll have to contact me via e-mail.

Thanks Karen. Don't know why It was giving me so much trouble. I've always uploaded jpg formats before without any problem.

I thought the P5 man and woman were compatible with Michael 1/2 and Victoria 1/2 textures apart from the eyes? So couldn't you just use those templates?

Yes. Do a search in the Freestuff for SnowSultan and you will find the templates to download.

You don't need to export anything from Poser to make maps. You should always use the original obj's from the geometries folder.

Load the original obj from the geometries folder (or wherever Poser 6 decided to put it), click [ on your keyboard to hide everything and Ctrl+M to show the material box. Select what materials you want to have on your map** and click OK. Go to File|Save Template (or Ctrl+T), and in the options be sure to select Exclude Hidden Facets. This makes sure that the parts you have hidden stay hidden on your map. Repeat this process for each map you need to make.

**On your head map you'd select things like SkinHead, Lips, Lacrimal, etc On your body map you'd select things like SkinLegs, SkinArms, etc.

I'd never heard of doing UV Maps that way. Didn't know Poser could do UV Maps.

I did that and got the mess I posted earlier in this thread. UV Mapper Classic won't seperate the materials into indiviual maps.

md, reread junko's message above. uvmapper (freebie) may not be very good compared to other software, but it will do what you want. check in the uvmapper forum for detailed info.

Mdbruffy, uvmapper doesn`t automatically seperate the materials into the different maps, you have to do as xena said.

I did what Zena posted-load the original geometry folder- yes. go to the material box and check what I wanted in the map- did that,checked skin body.went to file save and in the options checked exclude hidden facets. did that.

 This was the result.

I did as Zena posted. I loaded the original geometry file.  went to the material file and chose the material- skin body and went to save file and in the options box checked eclude hidden facets. This is what I got.

  1. Open geometry in UVMapper
  2. Click [ on your keyboard to hide everything
  3. Ctrl+M to open material box
  4. Select materials you want on template and click OK
  5. Click ] on keyboard to unhide slected materials
  6. Go to Ctrl+T and make sure to checkmark Exclude hidden Facets.
  7. Save your template

You forgot to hide first and I forgot to unhide in my original instructions (step 5)

Finally got it. Part of the problem on my end is that I don't use the keyboard for poser or UV Mapper- I use my Wacom tablet and mouse for everything.
