Subject: We're watching you, Figure 5.

Morgano ( ) posted Fri, 28 July 2006 at 5:08 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 5:38 PM

Has anyone else seen this?   I have a character in a scene (it's Aiko, but I don't imagine that it matters which character).   I add four items of clothing and these show as Figures 1 to 5, so I re-name a couple, which happen to be Figures 2 and 5.   After a while, I add a second Aiko, which is now "Figure 2", so I re-name that to something unique, in this case, "Karen" (OK, when I said "unique", I was using the term fairly loosely).  This means that the next item I add will also be automatically named "Figure 2".   At this point, Poser seems to hang briefly, then puts out a message to the effect that the new figure's name conflicts with an existing one.    Poser has re-named "Karen" to "Figure 5".   It's easy to change the name back again, of course, and it's slightly amusing, if you think of it as Poser's version of "The Prisoner" (Sixties TV show, but there's bound to be a Hollywood re-make, any time now), but it does get a bit repetitive.   I get this in Poser 6, but I can't remember if it ever happened with Poser 5 (I only rarely used 4).   I don't have SR3 applied, so I perhaps should try it.

P6, SR2, but I have definitely seen it a number of times before,.   Also, I used not to change the names of figures, on the whole.

I call all my figures names like "Glamorous J(essi)", while my conforming clothing is called things like "Mini Dress".  If you load two GJs in a scene the second one becomes Glamorous J 1, of course, even though she in internally figure 2 (or higher).  That is up to P6 SR2, I haven't gotten SR3 yet, but I've never seen Poser rename anything "figure" that had a different external name.

The system where everything is called "Figure"  doesn't serve any purpose I can see, other than to confuse people.

I have seen what you are describing (I think) - You rename a character from Figure 1 to something useful and then load other figures and then find that your renamed figure has reverted to figure x. Happens every now and then even in SR3. I stopped renaming until I have clothed Figure 1 etc. It's a minor nuisance but it is there - you are not dreaming ;) Sometimes if I am not paying attention I'll move, pose the wrong figure because of that glitch.

It happens to me as well. I've ended up accidentally deleting the wrong figure character because of this charming little quirk.

Yeppers,  It's happened to me as well. I can't seem to specifically recreate it to see if there is a pattern, however it seems it happens more often when I am clicking faster than poser is reacting.. Don't know if that makes sense, but sometimes I think Poser isnt really "done" changing something when I've already moved on to another action.

fuaho ( ) posted Sat, 29 July 2006 at 10:36 AM

I've had good luck saving the file after renaming the second figure and then closing it and reopening it. Poser seems to need to reorder its lists or something and the reload appears to do that. This also ameliorates the situation where you cannot select a body part or prop when Poser stops on the one below in the list.

actually, the original Number 1,  was Majel Roddenberry (nee Barrett)..;) Except for Star Trek: Enterprise, every incarnation of Star Trek has had her presence, or voice..;)

Number 1 on the Prisoner was either a laughing maniac, or never proven. The last episode was written by McGoohan (the actor), when other important people walked off the show..;)

and Ghoyle, shut yer pi-hole..;) j/k..couldn't pass that one up..;)

number 1 on the prisoner was number 6 (alternate last episode) i think the whole series is about him questioning himself as to why he left his job in westminster, in the last episode he is in a court room with people with half happy and half sad faces on, then he meets number 1 and he takes his mask off and shows that number 6 is number 1!!!

...." ..i am number 2"

"who is number 1"

"you are number 6".....

let this be recorded as my first and last tv geek moment( The Prisoner was a classic cult series)

Be seeing you!!!

mickmca ( ) posted Sun, 30 July 2006 at 7:10 AM

This problem can also happen with Lights, and an additional complication is that when you rename a light, its shadow cam is NOT renamed, so you have to remember what goes with what.

Sigh. Yes, we love you Mom, but can we make our own dinner?

Sorry for re-animating a dead thread, but I saw a new twist (new to me, anyway).   The first figure in the scene was Figure 1.   The next ones all had unique names.   Along comes Figure 2 and I try to re-name her to "Nikita" (although she doesn't look all that much like the late Mr Khruschev).   Poser's not having any of that and pops up the "conflicting names" message.   "Figure 1" has now become "Figure3".   Figure 1 is the only "Figure 1" that the scene has ever had and Figure 2 is the only "Figure 2" that the scene has ever had.   I re-name the two, "Figure 2" becoming "Nikita", again.   I apply some clothing items to her, all with unique names.   When I add D20GearPants, I get the "conflicting name" message again and find "Nikita" has become "D20GearPants 1".   Quite bizarre.

erm no.. the Prisoner was cancelled at McGoohans request, (he only wanted to do 6 shows and was talked into doing more. they wanted 24 in all and the 17 made was a comprise figure).
no one walked off the show at all....

as to who Number One was? well in the series Number 2 never said there was one.. and if you read the beginning (posted above) you'll see who Number One actually was....

"Who is Number 1?"
"You are Number 6."
