These times are tryin times. Definative. Historybook material. Glad you got spared. Take lots of photos for insurance purposes."Wilma" clipped us last year in USA. Another clipped me (power out for 2 weeks) the year before in another state altogether. Crazy days indeed. I hope it is just a cycle ...
Check out Bean!
Oh my!!! That must have been scary :( I live in Winnipeg and we get tornadoes here too, mostly to the south of us, but a couple of times they touched down within one of the city's warehouse districts. I live in the heart of downtown overlooking a river, and last year during a really bad rain storm something (large rain drops or hail, I don't know which) was hitting my windows so hard that I thought the glass was going to break, and then wind picked up to a point where my windows were shaking so badly I was certain that they were going to blow up, and the sound!!! It sounded like a train or a plane were landing outside. I'd never heard anything like that during a rain storm before, ever! I was on the phone to a friend when it all happened and she heard the noises and told me to run and hide in my bathtub and pray!
I forgot to look in the papers the next day and I couldn't find anything on line so I am not sure what it was. My friend is convinced it was a tornado as she lives in the states and has been through a number of them.
I'm glad to hear that you weren't hurt. Food can be replaced, so don't worry too much about that. You can go and buy some dry ice and provided you don't open your freezer, the stuff should stay frozen for a good couple of days.
I'm really sad to hear about the animals :( They must have been so terrified. What a horrible way to die.... trapped and not able to get away :( I'm so glad that you had adopted a kitty from there. She's a cutie!!!

I'm very glad to hear that your OK and I'm heart broken that so many little lives were taken. Poor animals didn't even have a chance all caged up like that! :crying: I hope that you get everything fixed up and continue on with your good fortune. All the best to you and your family Richard ;-)~

I live in the UK where tornadoes aren't a frequent happening, thank goodness. It's heartbreaking to hear of such loss, both in human and animal terms. This little cat is just gorgeous (we have a rescue cat - she's about 11 now), and despite her bad start in life she's one of the most affectionate of the cats we've had. Our previous cat, also from rescue, lived till she was 15. Well done for taking on this little waif and stray. There's still hope in the world ....

Such aweful news, have you heard anything about a rebuild or community support? It would be nice to see some local companies help out with the rebuild. How aweful for the animals and people involved.
Bean is an adorable name, and an absolutely gorgeous cat!! Good thing he found some lovins with you.
as for rebuilding the SPCA, im sure they had insurance. it wont replace all of the animals though :(

does anyone elses cat lick plastic bags? its this new thing shes started lately. heaven forbid theres a plastic bag somewhere in the bedroom ill wake up to the creepy raspy sound of her licking the plastic.
Yes, both of my cats love to lick bags, especially the youngest one. It's total kitty heaven for her when I come back from grocery shopping, LOL
I understand that the plastic bags are made with animal fats and fish oils which some cats find irresistible. Perhaps she found a particularly taste one :) It's ok if she licks them, but make sure she doesn't eat them. The plastic isn't toxic, but it's also not digestible so it may cause problems in eliminating them if you know what I mean.

up the road, lightning struck the SPCA (humane society). it struck the specific building which housed the animals out of several outbuildings that were also on the hill. a fire started, and it completely burned down, and hundreds of animals were burned alive, only 10 survived.
luckily i saved one of them -- i picked up 'bean' from the same humane society just last fall. shed been brought in with severe frostbite - hence the missing tips of her ears. i guess this just goes to show that whenever you think things are bad (i was worried about all the food i was losing when the fridge/freezer defrosted in 35 degree heat) there are some out there that have it a lot worse.
