Subject: Help, on my last thread of sanity

SkyeWolf ( ) posted Tue, 15 August 2006 at 1:53 PM · edited Sat, 14 December 2024 at 2:23 AM

I recently purchased and installed the download version of Vue 5 Esprit.

From the very first it would not import poser files (yes I located my poser directory), the materials show up in the material editor window and the figure shows up in the layers but whenever I try to access the imported figure Vue crashes back to the desktop with the "Vue has encountered an error and has to close" message. Same goes for importing objs.  My camera views go away and all I have is a white blank window.

Now if this onlyhappened with poser files I'd blame poser but it also happens whenever I try to open any of the Vue sample files that came with it on the extras.  I get nothing but a blank white screen, no camera views. The status bar down at the bottom moves along as it loads but as soon as it gets to 100% I lose my camera views even thought the nameof the file appears in the program title bar at the top.

It does NOT happen when I create a new Vue 5 file, save it and then open it again.

I have tried using wireframe, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times. I have tried using wireframe and disabling hardware accelleration in my settings. I have tried running in Vue 5's so called "compatibility mode"

I have also already been around and around with tech support at e-on. The last thing they could tell me was that it was a problem with my machine, possibly a malfunctioning fan.

I'm cleaning off my C drive ATM to possibly attempt a reinstallation of Windows to see if that helps but I"m really hoping not to have to do that.

I'm hoping someone else has had a problem similar and has a solution.

Anyone???

Thanks!
Skye

I suppose you have installed the last update ?

You can download the latest version at :

http://www.e-onsoftware.com/resources/ShowUpdates.php?ProductTypeID=33

This update is still in beta, but it fixes a problem with the atmospheres
introduced with the 5.10 update.

You can also download the 5.09 update at :

yes, I did install all the updates.

I don't know what else to do as it stands right now I (or rather my boss) have just wasted $149 on a program I can't use.

sigh

Logically it's either a problem with your machine or with Vue. If everything else works OK, then IMHO it's not likely to be a machine issue. The fan thing could be right, but would be much more likely to manifest when the machine is hot. If you turn on from cold and run Vue immediately, and the problem still occurs, then I would not have thought a failed fan is likely (and Poser would probably do the same thing - rendering in Poser really cranks up my machine's fans).

I assume you have your latest video card drivers installed and that you are virus- and spyware-free.

In the end, although you say that you have re-installed Vue, have you re-downloaded it and tried a fresh install? I'm thinking maybe a corrupted download could do this.

I am (as far as I can be certain) virus and spyware free, I do not have the most up to date drivers installed but right now, only because tech support at e-on told me that if I disabled hardware excelleration and still had an problem it wasn't my drivers.

oh, and, I tried pleading corrupted download with tech support because you only get one download, and they told me that as long as the archive unpacked and installed that was unlikely to be the case.

that was actually my first thought.

Its well known that 5.09 has problems with importing poser files Personaly I never updated to 5.10 and just went back to 5.08 and that works fine, well it does if you have 2 GB of ram. There was a big thread on this months ago as well!

What are the specs of the machine? What is the Mobo, CPU, Ram, Video card, and Hard drive setup? Do you have many peripherals in or connected to the machine? I have a machine with1 gb and 2 gb and 512 gb of ram and the 5.10 update on all of them and they all work fine.

They are right about display drivers. Very unlikely to be that, if you turn off (full left on slider) all hardware acceleration for Windows and it doesn't cure the problem. That basically turns your driver into a generic VGA type that is extremely unlikely to fail.

Have you tried turning off all security (scumware/anti-virus, etc.) programs? Read a rumor that some anti-virus apps can cause Vue problems - don't know how true that is. Never happened to me with Vue 5 Infinite.

Guess you realise that when e-on says "512MB free memory" is the minimum, that means 512MB left AFTER loading Windows and all else. I wouldn't be surprised by problems if you don't have 1GB at least - but e-on support must have mentioned that.

Sorry i don't have a solid answer...
