I just discovered this fantastic catsuit yesterday (bah - really annoyed that I missed it when it was released!!) and it's exactly the clothing item that I've been looking for for ages!!!!

Since I got it through content paradise, I can't leave feedback in the usual way - but just wanted to say that it's simply the best thing I've ever bought for my poser wardrobe (the V3 version was so cool that I immediately bought the one for Jessi). Everything about it is so useful and the multitude of full body, fitting and styling morphs are just perfect.

Thank you so much for putting so much effort and attention to detail into creating this superb product!! 😄😄

i feel like an idiot because i know i've seen information about this before, but could you make a bulleted list of the precise features this suit has that the various daz catsuits and, as a separate list, 2nd skins (with displacements) do not?  i don't want you to "defend" your product, and i'm sure it's great and that there are significant benefits, i just never quite see precisely what they are in the promotional images and product info.

That's easy to do, and already there in the product page.
1- DAZ catsuits don't have feet, except Aiko's.
2- specific character mophs: for ArtCollaborations products and Blackhearted's GND; this can't be done with DAZ catsuit
3- styles: can't be done with DAZ catsuits, and definitely not with the second skins either. Rendering each style morph individually is not really a good idea, unless we want to make the thread really long, but you can check the name of each morph in the image included -I've made it lighter, maybe you can see it better that way?) and look around the area the name suggest (i.e. feet when it says "heels" or "boots"). This makes them usable for that thing people keep complaining they don't get enough of: real clothes. And it also has its uses for pretty stuff, or even sci-fi, it all depends on the textures added.

Clear as mud?

thanks so much for the information!

so let me see if i can parrot this back correctly:
improvements over second skin clothing systems & textures

  • Advanced clothing morphs impossible to acheive through displacement

Improvements over other catsuits:

  • Custom character support
  • Mapping with real world seam placement for easy custom texture creation (looked it up)
  • "Bootie" foot covering that morphs into several different styles of boot.

does that sound correct?

and is there a possibility for future add-ons for the Booties in general?  like new clothing morphs, additional character/morph support, more "real clothes" textures, pocket, button or other clothing decoration props?

EricJ ( ) posted Fri, 15 September 2006 at 11:42 AM

Don't forget the reason I bought the booties. They all share the same mapping so you can use the textures with any version of the bootie.

Arien ( ) posted Fri, 15 September 2006 at 12:04 PM

That's pretty much it.

Denise and I are working on new versions for other characters, check out her gallery and you'll see who's coming up next :)

The add-ons will depend a lot on how people choose to support it. We have a few things planned, but we need to get the booties out :) If you check my store you'll see there's something a bit closer to "real" clothing available, and when the guys come out, there will obviously be a bit more. The thing is, as a texturer, I much prefer the elaborate because it's a lot more fun to do. Even if I take a lot longer than what I take to do real world clothes, the fantasy/sci-fi is more challenging.

There is also what EricJ has said about all of them sharing mapping, that makes life a lot easier. And it also means that each new bootie will add "range" to the originals, so to speak.

We've gotten extremely positive feedback on the V3 Bootie. The next will be for Aiko (see an older render in the Aiko Bootie link here). The textures have been enhanced even further since then and they even look more wonderful!

As far as the templates go, I'm not entirely sure if they were included with all versions, so to be safe I uploaded it to my file locker here.

And, my apologies for the delay on the other versions. Between other work, commissions, and taking care of my mom (who passed away a couple of months ago) time has been precious. They ARE still being planned though! We appreciate how patient you have all been.

Someone needs to create a set of pirate inspired textures and call it "Pirate Bootie"!  :)

I have never figured out why more texture sets by third parties haven't been done for this outfit, you can make just about anything from it and it isn't pigeonholed to one character.

When it came out I thought for sure there'd be dozens of texture sets for it... never happened for some reason.  Hopefully as A3's gets released it'll still happen.

oddboots ( ) posted Sun, 17 September 2006 at 4:04 AM

Yeah, that puzzles me too. All I can think is that the booties just don't have the awareness that they deserve. I really just happened upon them by accident while searching for something else.  As you say, maybe the A3 version might change things - especially if it gets to hang around 'what's hot' for a while.

I really just use the more realistic characters, so won't be buying that version - but would buy a steph 3 version in a flash! More texture sets would also be cool - but I'd also love to see an expansion pack of even more fitting and styling morphs.

anyway, hope the booties do get the attention and 3rd party support they deserve!!!!

But see, that's the kick. The Bootie for V3 was on the first page of the What's Hot for about a month or thereabouts. Sold quite nicely too. But apparently I'm the only one that has done separate textures for it, and to be honest, they have barely sold compared to the originals. It's almost as if buyers really were not that aware of the full potential of them, or would rather have them as they are. Which is really sad.

Just taking a guess here but one reason the Sci-Fi set may not have sold as many as  it should have is because it is for P5 and P6. There are loads of PP users out there.

I myself have been waiting for some cool fantasty textures. I am not into real life stuff to much. I POser to get away from it LOL

well, i don't think it's compatibility issues, because i've never seen any plain texture sets get huge.  that is, i haven't seen plain texture sets for the mfd, mcd or various catsuits get hugely popular.  ones that accompany mesh add-ons, yeah, but not plain textures.  oddly, the mfd texture i've seen used the most frequently is the atlantian one.  maybe that's the key?  that the textures should do something that isn't done at all?  i know i'd practically have to get the bootie for  a texture set that was leaves and other naturals done to scale (as opposed to the giant butterfly wings and leaves i've seen elsewhere).

on the other hand, i have 3 or 4 (or more) actual (not just textures) sci-fi suits i picked up from daz for about $2 a piece with various textures.   and some eloroncedark stuff, some stuff by lourdes, and other sf clothes i paid more for.  not that arien's textures aren't comparable or better, just that it's an area i don't actually need to fill.   but i'm kept from doing the sort of fey/fantasy pics i want to due to a lack of good (seasonal) natural textures for clothes and masks.  not that i can't make them myself, but i'd have to learn how to and i have other pics i can do now that are in the planning queue.

With each Bootie release, Arien's textures get better and better. She has the knack of getting the most out of a product, and I am very proud to be working with her.

Here's a small preview of the Aiko Bootie that will give you an idea of what is coming down the pike soon at DAZ. The reflections, displacement, transparency, and bump maps in this texture set are what really make the set shine ... and though the textures are also compatible with P4, PP, and DAZ Studio, you'll see the best results with P5 or P6. Look at the piping in the legs ... that's not geometry, that is displacement. The textures take a simple geometry model and make it look like much more.

Arien is a master in the Material Room, and she's getting better with each release! Keep your eyes open at DAZ for this one, because they were blown away. 8-)

cobaltdream ...

Oooh, a fairy/fantasy set ... that would be nice!!! A good thing to keep in mind for the next one ... maybe Steph Petite?

Have any suggestions or looks in mind?

kobaltkween ( ) posted Sun, 17 September 2006 at 10:32 AM

oh, yeah, arien's textures are absolutely great, and i for one wouldn't like to suggest they be downgraded to exclude displacement.  one thing i might point out as really great about that preview you just posted is the texture at the knees.  the lower one looks a tiny bit stretched, but only a tiny bit, just like real fabric.  the upper, though bent, looks just as regular as the rest.  kudos to both you (for the uv mapping) and arien (for the stellar texture).

sorry if i in any way implied that arien's textures weren't incredible (which they are).

hehe - me too, kinda - just don't like the cartoony type characters like aiko and the rest. Having said that, I might just be tempted to buy the A3 catsuit for the texture alone....

Oh no, I didn't take it that way at all! LOL  I'm just so proud of her work!  We have some very cool things planned for the DAZ figures, along with the G2 figures from eFrontier. ;-)

Keep in mind that Aiko can be used with the realistic morph, and you can get some really cool characters out of her that don't look cartoony.

oh!  on suggestions/looks.... hmm.

ok, here's my train of thought.

so i tend more towards fantasy in my reading habits, and more towards sf in my pics and purchases.  so i asked myself why.  and i came back with the authors i all thought were good in fantasy didn't write about the sort of common elf/ranger/wizard bits.  they used fantastic elements to talk about broader things, like language and meaning, nature, suffering, redemption, etc.  one thing i just personally am not drawn to about most  poser fantasy stuff is it tends to be people with pointy ears in quasi-medieval garb and setting... and only that.  or really cute people with big eyes and wings.  i don't have anything against that, and i can appreciate how lovely a lot of them are.  that said, the artists whose works i've really appreciated have (in my eyes) gone beyond, "oh, they're so cute and precious," or "they're so beautiful and in such lovely dresses."  to me, an elf isn't just a man or woman with nice skin, lots of makeup, ornate clothes and pointy ears.  or one that's interesting to me isn't.  i think it's about beings that are like humans, but unlike us, are one with nature.  they can have different qualities from that point, but (again, my opinion), that's the basis for any fantastic humanoid being more than a human in historical garb.

so, given that goal, of depicting beings that are integrated with nature, i figured a good way to show that is clothing of natural objects that almost seem to merge with the being wearing them.  still beautiful, and still ornate and layered , but not of common human manufacture.  a good example of the sort of realism and natural elements i mean are the Tree People for V3 and Woodland Props-Tree  and V-Tree (Mother Earth) here in the market place.  that said, both are less layered and designed in their bodies than i was thinking.  and are only bark.  i'm thinking of anything from leaves and petals to moss and stone  to shells and seaweed.  still designed, still layered and still ornate, on top of being realistic.

now that's a very specific sort of goal, so i don't know how helpful that would be.  that said, i would bet that most of the faerie crew would go for textures with arien's quality and style (see her incredible lace), but made of natural elements rather than fabric (or in the above case, metal - which i must say is very cool).  autumn wear would be very timely, and the leaves and seed pods and general foliage should soon be ready to be harvested for scanning.

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 17 September 2006 at 11:38 AM

So you are looking for something that is more along the lines of Froud's work.

I love his stuff too. 8-)
