Subject: Alpha Map Qusetion

I'm having a brain freeze. This is probably something I am overlooking. I want the stripes to be seen only not the Sphere. I have mapped the white line onto the sphere. How do I make the "white" part of the sphere transparent and the dark line to be as is. This is easy using an alpha plane but can I do it with a sphere?

You need to apply the map to the transparency channel for your object. This is done differently depending on which version of Vue you are using.

chippwalters, I am including the image and the steps I have taken. I am using Vue 5 Infinite. First Image is the Function Editor. Please tell me how to do this. Thanks

chippwalters, Unfortunately, I don't got it yet. Everything that is white is supposed to be transparent so I don't know what I am doing wrong. Only the black is supposed to be left, like an alpha map. If someone has done this before please chime in here. Thanks

Delete the node that you have highlighted (leave the color node conected) and connect the transparancy tab (on the bottom tabs to the right of the color node) to the picture connected to the color node.

videodv, I followed your steps (see function picture). When I look at the picture it looks great. Totally transparent except the black lines. Just what I wanted. But when I render the image it looks totally solid again. Any ideas what is causing this. I don't suppose you can try this using my image map and post a file for me? Thanks
