I need to know if there are any options in vue about resorce management. I know about the controlls for the undo management, but I want to know if there are any others or if there are other ways to do this. thanks -sam

Using Vue Infinite, layers can help with resource management.  Turn layers off that you don't need to see or move.

I also group objects as much as possible.  Groups help Vue when updating the screen.  Rather then remember how to draw each item, it only has to remember the group.

Infinite also has a "replace by" function that can relly help when you have a large, detailed object.  Replace it with a cube while you set up your camera and atmosphere.  Then, when ready to render, replace it with the orginal object.

Not sure I understand fully. In the file menu, under preferences, you can visualize your available resources. If your resources drop significantly, you can click the "flush history" button, this will erase the undos stored in memeory. When Vue tells you thet resources are low, save your scene, close Vue and reopen it.

Using groups, layers, and replace by will help save your resources.  This way you can avoid having Vue shut down.  I think Vue 6 Infinite will have more options, but for now  flush history is all we have.  I have never tried it - I perfer to save and exit - just feels safer to me...

Im mostly talking about rendering. Im using a very nice computer, but there are things running on it that need to take priority of the prossesor.

Ah, rendering... Well, Peggy's got great tutorials on this, check out her site.

Ah, rendering is a whole different problem.  If you are running out of resources when rendering, there are a few things you can try.

Reduce the size of textures maps - this is the biggest rescource hog and the hardest to overcome.  Vue 6 Infinite looks promising in fixing this problem.

Just before rendering, reboot your computer and shut down any other programs including virus protection, screen savers, wallpaper, etc.  Your system tray should be empty!

Install the maximum memory your computer can use - 2GB for a Windows XP system will really make a difference.  I have two computers, both XP.  The older computer with 2 GB can render scenes where the duel core machine with only 1GB chokes.  I need to get more memory for that system ASAP.  For now, my daughter uses it for games, but once 64 bit version of Vue comes out, that may change!

Your daughter doesn't need a dual core as bad as you do, Peggy. Reclaim this machine! Lol!

Nice part of Vue is network rendering - I can reclaim the computer any time I want!  I love it when my daughter goes off mumbling "darn cows..."
