Subject: Show us your early Vue 6 renders!

I would like to ask the "early birds" :-) who already downloaded their V6 copy to give us a taste how V6 renders will look like with spectral clouds, sprayed ecos, GI and more...so please hit us! :-)

Since you insist :) Here are a few tests of translucency and sub surface scattering. The yare not good enough for the gallery so I will just post them here.

Advanced caustics with color shift.

Many thanks agiel! Wooow...the clouds are simply stunning and the subsurf.scat. render looks really promising  - keep 'em coming! :-)

Here is some more caustics from Vue 6i (pre-release). Both are GI lighting:

This with a spotlight and cylinder with water material (the bright ring is the spotlight beam being a bit bigger than the cylinder. Outstanding water caustics, i'd say!
Congrats to the developers!!!

This is a red and a blue spotlight, with a wine glass i made in Silo 3d:

Vue 6i (pre-release) lighting is looking very nice!

Yepp, e-on did a great work judging from these test renders.

Another example of translucent material.

ariannah ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 12:13 PM

wabe has posted a very cool pic over at DAZ with some low lying clouds.  Perhaps we can coax him to post it here as well? ;-]

But all your images in this thread look most amazing, so please keep them coming!

How about poser figures? Does it render faster? Can you get more figures into a scene?

Thanks!

Great preliminary pics Agiel!

How well are the Poser Shaders coming over? - I'd like to see a screen grab of the dials & poser Shader tree within Vue.

That wasn't really my test area (poser figures and shaders) but I will see what I can do.

Here is another image I made with poser figures though.... it was a little slow to move around at the time but it improved a lot since.

This one was another test for translucent materials.

attileus ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 12:34 PM

Awesome translucency test pic agiel! Your creature in the first pic looks photoreal.

gillbrooks ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 12:39 PM

Just how long is the order process taking? I paid last night, I've had the payment confirmation from PayPal but tracking my order it is still being 'reviewed' after more than 16 hours :-(

The octopus looks a whole lot better with trans. applied. :)

Has anyone tried SSS on the skin yet.  Also curious to see some results from displacement mapping.

Thanks guys & gals for posting your pics :)

ariannah ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 12:42 PM

Gill, e-on must be overloaded beyond belief.  I'm coming up on 14 hours myself for a validation on a free upgrade.  I have no clue why a $0.00 upgrade should take so long, but I believe I've read that someone on e-on's end has to manually approve each one.  I know it's hard, but try and be patient.

The new Vue 6 section is up at e-on's site.

You will see an example of skin shading with SSS in the materials section.

Here is another SSS/translucency test. Also uses the new 'Spectral' lighting model and custon shadow softness control:

Another nice feature - columetric clouds can be colored.

(although they cannot be used outside of a spectral atmosphere).

jc ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 2:00 PM

Exciting stuff. Great clouds + colors and some very hot new lighting tools! When e-on said this verson would be more professional, they sure weren't kidding!

Looks like time i got into to using Dave Burdick's SkinVue - with SSS and such in Vue 6 for him to incorporate into his cool product, we should be seeing some great looking Poser skin.

Last one for the road.... I couldn't resist to the temptation of playing with clouds.

I should add that this picture has ZERO postwork done outside of Vue.
The color correction and 'glare' from the sunlight were added using the postwork step available inside Vue.

videodv ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 2:50 PM

Great first look renders, what about the render times!

wabe ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 2:59 PM

Ok, here it is. I have not posted it here because i wanted to render it in higher quality and then add it to my gallery. But this i can do still of course.

No postwork, only a low cloud layer and sun behind the rodluc freebie.

And here another work in progress - or better said, idea in progress. Painting a flock of seagulls onto a terrain and then delete that simply - the birds remain.

IvanB ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 3:15 PM

Hi,

The images look awsome!!

sorry for the stupid question,

Could some please tell me if you get 5 free hyperview render nodes for vue 6 like with vue 5?

Ivan.

impish ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 4:54 PM · edited Thu, 02 November 2006 at 4:55 PM

First proper Vue render rather than playing with new stuff. Not my usual style of picture in fact the nearest I've ever done to a nude in three version of poser and three versions of vue.

May I present NVWnbaSA for your delectation and delight....

22 Minutes to render.  Spectral atmosphere.  User render settings.  No post work.  Varous types of cloud used.

iloco ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 7:10 PM

Why are the clouds so dark on the underside of some of the pics I have seen.
Can they be made whiter and get rid that dark looking under them.
Summer clouds are fluffy and very white where I live.     What I am seeing resembles more of a storm type cloud but then again the color isnt right for those in the pics I have seen. :)

LeFrog ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 7:32 PM

Well you can adjust that part of the cloud, just that i like it darker sometimes.  :)

Veritas777 ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 7:56 PM

...has anyone actually tried importing POSER specific P6 skin shaders, by Face_off?

...Anyone tried any TOON Shaders from Poser?

...What's this I've heard that P6 shaders can be rendered in Vue 6 Inf with the Poser 6 render engine? WHAT does THAT mean? (Is this ALSO referring to the OLDER Poser Phong renderer?)

...Can Poser 6 shaders be SAVED and used in Vue 6???

LeFrog ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 8:01 PM

Well i have not done much testing for Poser in Vue. But from what i heard the shader tree is now correct in Vue, not phong. Also Vue has a cartoon material that comes with it now.

agiel ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 8:05 PM

ABout clouds.... I found that they tend to be very white in plain sunlight.
You can adjust their density, roughness, turbulences, cover, and color among other things.

agiel ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 8:55 PM

file_358342.jpg

Veritas - here is a quick test with a simple toon shader.

The screenshot shows poser and vue side by side, with a render in both applications.
Note that the outline is not reproduced right away in Vue as it is a post processing from the Poser engine. The material itself is reproduced correctly. The outline could be re-created with a Python script I suppose (maybe dburdick will confirm :) ).

From what I can tell, poser doesn't have to be open at the same time as Vue, but you will need to open poser if you want to edit poser materials used in Vue.

The system is using the 'link to poser' previously used to automatically update poser scenes in Vue after changing wthem in Poser.

I didn't display them here but you have the option to edit the pose from inside Vue (all morphs and pose controls are accessible).

I do not have Face_off's materials, so I couldn't test them. If you know where i can find free toon shaders for poser, I will be able to  make a more elaborate test.

agiel ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 8:57 PM

nevermind... I just looked at the Freestuff and found a few toon shaders for poser I can play with :)

jc ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 9:08 PM · edited Thu, 02 November 2006 at 9:11 PM

To lighten the undersides of spectral atmosphere clouds, you boost their internal ambient light slider. With that control and the density, opacity and other sliders, you have pretty complete control from white cotton ball clouds to dark storm clouds.  Plus altitude, height of layer, amount of fine detail and more.

And there is a spectral atmosphere high cloud type for use above your camera and a low cloud type you can fly your camera above or through or lower down around your mountain tops.

Cool idea for those seagulls Walther! One for the notebook.

agiel ( ) posted Thu, 02 November 2006 at 9:31 PM

file_358344.jpg

Here is another example with one of the free shaders from trekkgirl.

I noticed something related to the import of toon shaders. The material looks completely black in Vue if the 'line width' in Poser is more than 0.0.

I will report that to e-on to see if it is a limitation of the SDK provided by e-frontier or simply a parameter that was overlooked.  Other than that, it works rather smoothly from what I can tell.
