The new Gizmos turn V6 into a far more professional tool (similar to Max, LightWave, Cinema4D, XSI or Maya), though (as with most things) they take a little bit of getting used to at first.
Have a look at the following and see if it helps (i've also seen vids on the sam site):

Of course you can always work the older way, but personally I think you'll be missing out on some great new tools.
Kind regards
They take a bit getting use to, but try to stick with them. AsileFX has a What's new with Vue 6 training CD. They explain the new features much better than the manual. Now after a week of using these, I'd never want to go back to the old way. I admit through, at first I hated them...
In the final release, I think we will have some more capablities to make them match our 3D program of choice - I think right now we are only seeing one version.
My only gripe is the boxes with the move, rotate, scale boxes are way too small. You can increase the size of the gizmos, but the boxes stay the same size. Hope this changes in the final release.

As the old saying goes its hard to learn old dogs new tricks.
I prefer the older way also and I willl never understand a lot of the features of Vue so what I do with Vue 6 I am content to use the old way with gizmos.
I think its all up to the indivual with what suits them best. At lest e-on gave us the option to choose which we prefer. :) Got to give them credit for doing that.

As Roderick said, it takes some time to get used to them if you're not familiar with Max, Cinema and the like. But I think it's worth trying, they are so handy and easy to use once you get used to them. The rotate tool is simpler to use than the old one, imho. Irish, true you can't resize the boxes, and I agree they are small, but I don't remember being able to resize the boxes in Vue5.
If I could enlarge the icons themselves I would consider using them, because as you say, once you learn them you don't go back, but the problem is, I have difficulty seeing them - they look like little dots on the screen, all grouped together. I'm not blind but I do wear glasses and even squinting, I can not see them comfortably.
:)
I don't use the icons... too small for me and too difficult to click on accurately all the time.
I have learned to use key shortcuts to quickly switch between them though... r for rotate / m for move / s for scale.
I have been eagerly waiting for these 'gizmos' in Vue for a long time. I even noticed only recently that Poser 6 has them as well !
Keyboard shortcuts M=Move, R=Rotate, S=Scale
For coordinates L=Local, G=Global, P=Parent, C=Camera
If you use the keyboard, you don't have to try to click those tiny boxes...

I am finding them very frustrating, EG can't get them to work, can any one explain them? the manual leaves a lot to be desired.
