The page is for PC members, so here's a summary of the info posted:

  • better joints, and fewer JCMs needed
  • 'more than double' the texture map resolution (presumably that refers to the maps to be supplied with V4)
  • if I'm interpreting correctly, no more morph injections
  • something called 'Morphform' dials for controlling multiple dials with one slider

That's about it so far.

*The level of realism in her redesigned joints is simply unmatched. Working in tandem with a unique application of magnet deformers not only delivers the most realistic and most versatile figure ever, but it also simplifies the effort required by third-party developers due to the drastically reduced number of Joint Controlled Morphs (JCM's) needed in Victoria 4.0.

*Magnet deformers?  Is that going to be compatible with Poser and D|S?

Can't say about the boobs. There's a render, but it's a closeup of her face.  And it's done in Carrara, not Poser or D|S.

The blurb also says V4's texture maps will be "over double the resolution" of V3's.  That noise you just heard was my computer begging for mercy...  ;-)

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Sat, 25 November 2006 at 12:04 PM · edited Sat, 25 November 2006 at 12:05 PM

Hmm good question about the magnets. Perhaps they'll release a DS and a Poser version of her? Most likely. A lot of Daz' models already comes in both a Poser and a DS version, so why not V4?

She's definately compatible with Poser.

Wow...  The face is absolutely beautiful, hope they get really nice shoulders and elbows.  Boes.  Eh.   Seems like with V2 they had a sort of "cute" face, V3 has this almost goddess-like, graceful beauty, but this one really nails it for me.  Very life-like.  I can't quite put a word to it, because it isn't really just cute or glamorous/beautiful.  Uh...

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Sat, 25 November 2006 at 2:57 PM

o.k., at least they finally realised that they gotta include alotta JCMs to avoid forcing users to do their own. which unfortunately indicates that they believe P7 users are stuck with the old spherical JPs. psycho, I haven't seen yer nickname until now - did ya change it to that recently?

mathman ( ) posted Sat, 25 November 2006 at 4:02 PM

Some are saying that they would like to see M4 in the near future. Personally I would prefer to see D4, his predecessor is much better than M3.

mathman ( ) posted Sat, 25 November 2006 at 4:05 PM

... one more comment. I think this is timely, I reckon that V3 is way, way past her "use by" date.

Jules53757 ( ) posted Sat, 25 November 2006 at 4:24 PM

And for sure, your PC is out of date with her ;)

Back to the good old days, her cr2 will include all morphs like V2 or A3 did. Even for background figures you have to use a haeave weight V4.

Also, as you don't have to buy additional morphs, I'm pretty sure, she will not be free :(

But one thing will be true for sure, she will be a Barbie NG (no gens).

OK folks, lets not be too quick with our conclusions. The line from Steve's post over in the DAZ PC Members forum is:

"Incredible Ease of Use - All head and body morphs will be made available within a single CR2."

Please note that he does not say "...are included in the CR2.", but "...will be made available..."

To me that means that the head and body morphs will be a separate package that we'll have to buy as is traditional with the current Mill figures...

stormchaser ( ) posted Sat, 25 November 2006 at 5:03 PM

I just so want V4!!
I love working with V3 but I just need that extra level of realism which I hope V4 will bring. With Poser 7 which I have just preordered it should be fun to see what can be created.
I know the promo was rendered in Carrara but you can see the possibilities, she looked incredible!

ominousplay ( ) posted Sat, 25 November 2006 at 9:08 PM

Why render in Carrara? Why not Poser7? I use Carrara often, just wonder why - something to do with the lighting?

Never Give Up!

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sat, 25 November 2006 at 11:32 PM

"Why render in Carrara? Why not Poser7?"

1.Maybe because they are Daz and don't have Poser7?

  1. Maybe Daz wants to promote Carrara render because it is better than DS?
3 Maybe Carrara is the only Daz app that can handle and render V4?
    4 Maybe all of above?

I would go with 1 and 2.

Dizzi ( ) posted Sun, 26 November 2006 at 10:19 AM

Carrara can't use magnets currently, so it's either annoying OBJ export or they improved Carrara, too...

Darboshanski ( ) posted Sun, 26 November 2006 at 12:10 PM

It would be great to see the image of her face but alas, I'm not a PC member, haven't been for sometime. I'd like to see more of her, what price she will be and other info before I go and get her.
I know, I know I said the same about P7 but went ahead and pre-ordered before anyone has had a chance to really work with it anyway.  I may end up doing the same with V4...LOL!

*Yes Carrara can import and use morphs. If someting is a magnet all you need to do is spawn it before you save the figure.

One of the reasons, I think, why Vue has done the same thing and one step better, shader import.

FSMCDesigns ( ) posted Sun, 26 November 2006 at 4:23 PM

I for one am looking forward to V4. I enjoy working with V3 more than Miki, Jessie and Aiko combined. I hope she can use V3 textures.

I'm glad they did the render in Carrara, it is my renderer of choice as P6 can't handle any kind of complex scene. I pre ordered p7, so we'll see if it has more headroom for complex scenes.

My sister asked what I wanted for Xmas, I told her a gift certificate from DAZ , CP or here, LOL

The thing is, even by the longest stretch of imagination, december isn't "fall" - it's winter. So they may release the final reason earlier (like today for instance) and then Poser 7 this thursday.

Starlet has said a few times that the Poser 6 reasons weren't all posted one week apart (I can't remember it so I have to rely on her) - so it's not a GIVEN that there's a reason every thursday - and we were robbed of one last thursday because of Turkeyday...

GAH! I want it NOW!

When Einstein was asked what weapons would be used in WW3 he answered: "I don't know about WW3, but in WW4 they will be using sticks and stones".
To emulate the old man, I am tempted to predict that --with the current state of neo-puritanical revival-- if not V4, then certainly V5 will come out with no visible attributes of sex (sorry Ziggie, no boobies) and probably also fully clothed.
Seriously now: V3 served her term well, however she has gradually fallen far behind the current requirements for realism. Thus a new female figure is desperately needed. But this new figure, to be of any use, must conform to basic anatomical realities. And it is not just the joints... Let's hope that the modelers at work have been given a crash course in human anatomy and allowed a certain freedom of expression --but, being a pessimist [and with good reason] I have my doubts this have been the case.
(Now, if DAZ happened to be, say, a French company –based in Europe-- my expectations might have been endorsed... :) --No offense intended.......

that's kind of amusing, because it sounds like they're implementing lots of eF innovations.  magnets to do the whole jcm thing ala g2, and dials to raise arms ala miki.

everyone's going gaga over that face, but it doesn't look more realistic to me.  just more like aiko realistic.  so cuter.  since i already have aiko, and tons of stuff for her, i'm more interested in joints, morphs and expressions.   i really haven't explored 1/2 the possibilities of v3.  or aiko for that matter.  and i've got ooodles of products or them.  so, she looks cool and all, but i can only get so excited about another daz styled face.

oh, and if she's  only got nice joints and such in her d|s optimized version, then that will really decrease her usefulness to me.  i often find poser's more robust functionality necessary for what i want to do, and d|s is about as stable on my (fairly new) computer as p5 seemed to be on others.

They'll have to release Poser 7 pretty soon, as with the Christmas post and people going away for Christmas we'll be stuffed if the preorders comes while we are away. Plus I remember all the problems that people in the US had with delivery drivers putting notes through the door saying no-one was in, without even ringing the doorbell to see if anyone was.
In Britain our copies (Poser 5 or 6, can't remember which) were delayed for weeks coming from Ireland, don't know why. At the time there was a thread on this board suggesting that leprechauns were trying to get across the sea in a rowboat piled up with Poser boxes. All I can say is that this time I hope they use Santas elves instead!!!
As for V4, M4 etc, I think that they will wait until the fuss from P7 dies down a bit, so they can say "hey look at these great new figures" to anyone who may be dissappointed by the standard P7 ones.

Well... As I've said elsewhere;

Sounds good in the announcement...

...But...

Will the figure be 'anatomically correct' (down below), at least for regular and distance shots, or will we once again be seeing a plethora of funny looking morphs trying to stretch too few vertexes into varying levels of inaccurate detail

That's really all the current female gen-3 figures are lacking.

It's not that I want the ability to do 'R-otica' zoom-ins, but I would like a female figure in the millennium line that when standing normally undressed doesn't look like a cartoon. I'd like one that looks at least as decently correct as the males.

Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.
