Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
This was posted by PhilC on the PhilC-forum yesterday:
*You may want to click the Wardrobe Wizard "Check for updates" button tomorrow.
BTW. I haven't got time to figure it out myself, will try it later on the day.

-How can you improve things when you don't make mistakes?
Since we are on the subject. I don't intend to be rude with the quesion, I just want to know (as I am clueless) if anyone knows the differences between Clothes Converter from Daz and Wardrobe Wizard?
Everyone here seems to love Wardrobe Wizard, which is a great indication of quality, but I've never found a run down of the two products.
Or are they for different tasks and I'm an idiot?
I just want to know what people have to say. I'm going to plunk down some cash soon and these are getting into the "higher" ticket items (hey, at 60 bucks plus add on modules for characters, WW is getting close to what I paid for Poser). I just want to make sure I'm getting what I need.
I'm afraid to ask because I don't want this to become volitile or Daz bashing or anything like that. I just want to know.
Hi, I don't know clothes converter, but I read a comparison somewhere in the DAZ forums (I think) and it said WW is better than Clothes Converter, and especially easier to use. Therefore I bought WW. It definitely IS easy to use! I also have OBJ2CR2, which is an excellent additon in case you build clothes yourself in some modeler. Best regards, Michael
thefixer, I won't try to comment on the quality of any particular automated clothing adapter app, but just as a "reality check", do understand that NONE of these apps will give you the same level of results that the original modeller (human) might do, in either creating morphs or adapting to a different figure. And I think the authors of these apps would all agree with me on that (I know that PhilC has stated that before). This is not a slam on these products - they just can't do the job that a live person can do in a modelling app.
The best results likely come from higher density, 'bulky' meshes that are not skin-tight. Less desirable results from lower density 'smooth' meshes that are skin-tight. And a whole range of goodness in between.
So to a large extent, the end quality will depend on the particular mesh being adapted, the available tools and (not least) the skill of the human running the tools. Some apps only offer a one-click type tool and you get, what you get (not much skill/knowledge required, but maybe not as flexable). I do know that WW (for example) comes with various tools to help tune the results of the initial conversion, so knowing how to use those should result in better.. uhm, results. :)
Having said that, the process of getting your old clothing items converted to some new figure could be worth $$$ to you in value/savings. And the results you get on many clothing items are perfectly acceptable.
Cinema4D Plugins (Home of Riptide, Riptide Pro, Undertow, Morph Mill, KyamaSlide and I/Ogre plugins) Poser products Freelance Modelling, Poser Rigging, UV-mapping work for hire.
I have both clothes-converter and wardrobe wizard, but I have to admit that I never really have learned to work with clothes-converter, and I had the first result with wardrobe wizard within five minutes, I think there are two reasons for this: first wardrobe wizard works within poser and uses all the convinience of poser, and second with clothes converter you have to know all the names and locations of the obj.files, because I never made a result in clothes-converter I cannot compare the end-results of both the utilities, but for easy of use I vote for wardrobe-wizard.

Isn't Clothes Converter also limited to Daz major figures only? Whereas WW supports all the common Daz and all the P4-7 base figures, plus a few oddballs?

I'm not too bothered about ease of use, I pick up software fairly quickly, I'm more interested in the quality of the conversion, i.e. Does it do a good job?, How much time to get a "perfect" conversion?, Does it do a perfect conversion at all? etc.
It's a lot of money if the results aren't what I want!
Spanki pointed me to the answer already I guess, does anyone have any good examples to show, say Jessi in a V3 outfit for example!
Sorry to be a pain but I'm not loaded like some of you [LOL] and I just got V6Inf and P7 [when it comes]. so I'm near broke and what i spend my Xmas cash on is important to get right!!!
Injustice will be avenged.

Shoes yes, gloves no. But if you convert advanced - unwelded unregrouped you can partially do a glove, and then magnet and JP-edit the rest. Not at all easy, but possible.
Shoes work, but some of them have unpreditable results.
It is almost easier to load in the obj file for the shoe - scale and magnet it, and then go into setup room and add bones yourself.
I've got a render on the way of what I was doing to test WW for P7 - and I did the shoes by hand from an obj import rather than go through WW.

'BlackLotus' from Aery Soul, converted in Wardrobe Wizard within Poser 7 to Vicky 4.The character was my own design. It will be in my renderosity gallery tomorrow (if I put it there tonight, all of three people will ever see it...).
For the shoes, I imported the obj, loaded in a nude version of my character, scaled and positioned, deleted my character, moved to setup room, applied the bones of Vicky 4 to the shoes, applied 'auto group', went back to pose room, and saved to library...
And for some reason even after that when I conformed them to my character, they moved into the wrong position - moving a bit to the center... So I de-conformed them, manually posed them, and then parented them to my character so that as I moved her about they would follow... (but I kept them as conforming clothes to get 'bend' in the toes...
As for the gloves... nightmare there, some of which is hidden by the axe. The thumb went all over the place when I tried to manually reshape that part.
The arms and legging have props parented to them, the metal plates - I converted those in Wardrobe Wizard separate from the clothing under-neath, and then reparented them...
WW isn't a 'Make Art' item (even though it has a 'Make Art' button hidden in the utilities), but it is a stepping stone...
As for the snow on the ground, neither WW nor Poser 7 has a 'fix low rez texture' button... and I didn't notice it until after the render was mostly done as I used the hour long render time to take a show and roast some coffee beans... :)

I've personally found the opposite to be the case. Lower polly clothing works the best for me. I converted a bunch of Koshini's clothing to Terrai Yuki 2 and Aiko 3 and it worked great. The P4 clothing for possette and dork also converted nicely.
When I try to convert newer higher density V3 outfits to other figures I get a huge amount of wrinkling and mangling.
Poser 7's new morph tools should help fix it though.
Quote - ^^ dlfurlman, what was that converted using? WW or CC?
I used Clothing Convertor.
At the time, shoes and gloves were not accesbile to Wardrobe Wizard.
