Subject: Has anyone made a script to turn off texture filtering off?

I think it sucks big time having to turn texture filtering off all the time. What was eF thinking , again. (knocks on eF forehead, Hello, any body occupy this space?) Anyhow, has a py script been made yet? What do I need to bribe someone with to get one made?

I know, I need to learn how to do py scripts myself, I hate having to ask for anything.

Funny, i find the opposite. Most of the hair I like to use looks like crap if texture filtering is off. I would prefer to have it on, but it does kill resources which is why I don't render in poser 6 (haven't tried P7 yet) any longer.

Thank you very much.

It looks ok on some hairs but really blurs skin textures. I think the individual map ideal was good, but it should have been turned off as the standard. This way you could just turn the maps for hair on and not waist so much time the other way.

The transmaps used for hair usually have very fine detail, so you need to use a smaller value for the shading rate.

For P7, there shouldn't be resource problems with Texture Filtering due to the new texture paging code.

Wow, thank you very much for the link! I thought I'm going to get crazy lol Never used texture filtering as it eats RAM in huge quantities :) Michal 4blueyes

I ran some brutal test renders with P7 last night ... the same scene twice, first with filtering enabled on all textures, and again with filtering completely disabled.   I couldn't detect any significant impact on resources.  It used almost exactly the same amount of memory, to within a few kilobytes.

Didn't time them, unfortunately, so I don't yet know how much this new filtering affects render speed.

I'll admit this, though ... P6 could never finish rendering that scene file on its own without some major compromises on my part.   There have definitely been some changes for the better.

What is texture filtering supposed to do?

Where is it controlled from?

Correct. Enabling texture filtering in Poser 7 will not increase memory usage, at all.

Texture filtering is used to reduce or eliminate moiré patterns and other artifacts that may otherwise appear in finely-detailed textures.  It can help with hair materials in Firefly, for instance.

Quote - Where is it controlled from?

In Poser 7, texture-filtering is controlled from the material room, as an option on each image-map node.  It defaults to Quality, but can also be set to Fast or None.

Just wondering then, for skin detail, is it best to have texture filtering on or off? When I used to render in Poser 6 I think I had better detail with it turned off.

I never used texture filtering but set the MinShading rate to about 0.02 in the Render settings. Hair, brows and lashes turned out perfect.

That's what I do too. I also find that scaling the figure up makes a big difference. Great for close-ups.
