Subject: Q: Object scaling in pp2 files

Hello,

I created a prop with a reference to and external obj file.

After I reload the prop the object is very large. It is no problem to scale the prop down with the dials and save it again but when I reload the prop again the scale value is not 100% anymore.

How do I reduce the size of the object and remain a default size value of 100% ??
Or how do I reduce the size and set the displayed value to 100% ??

Hi, scale the object in poseer , then export the obj file. Replace your object file with the one exported. That should then load at 100% scale and be the correct size in poser .  I think. 

I usually import to poser, scale for size, then load the object back into the modeller, and resize it there

That will fix the OBJ, but the original PP2 will now be wrong.  Open Poser and import the prop again, then set the scale back to 100%.  Now save the PP2.

Another thing that is often skipped is the center point.  In outline display mode, open the hierarchy window, with the prop selected.  You should see a green cross, which is the center point.  Your cursor will change to a bull's eye when you hover over it, and you can move it.  Place it where you want the prop tp pivot.  If it's out in space, the prop will behave oddly.

If you don't see it, type 0.000 in all the center point boxes, and pick it up off the ground.

Hi Holli,

Or you can try this method ...

  1. In Poser, change the scale of the prop to the desired size
  2. Use the Group Edit tool to Create a NewProp, i.e., duplicate* the prop
  3. Save the NewProp

The new prop will have all of it's "Scale" parameters set to 100%.

Note - You may want (or need) to readjust the "center point" (origin) of the NewProp

Ok, I did it!
My obj already had some groups so I added all together and created a new prop from that.

But a little problem remains.
If I save this new created prop it has internal geomerty.

That's why I also find it easiest to make corrections in the Poser workspace then export as .obj. If I start with a prop that has external geometry, I can open (or import it) in Poser, make changes with scale, Grouping Tool, magnets, combine it with other objects....export the entire mess, name it the same as the original object.....now when I click on the old library entry I get my old prop with all the old materials and settings, but new geometry (and still external). (Just this weekend modified a pair of easy-pose instrument cables; imported both to Poser, selected the cord from one and the ends from the other, exported the franken-object, and by making a duplicate of one of the original cr2's I now have a completely new figure).
