How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

What a moody and dramatic style of portraiture you have, Andreas. Excellent work once again. I'm glad you have Jenny's permission. I'm sure the others will approve as well, once they see them.

And LOL at Tom's old potato..That's how I feel today...  ;^P

Well it's the new year, and once again it's time to dump stuff that never made it to the gallery.  I took this earlier this year of this car called a Phantom. It was a long limo looking car and in bad need of of some work, but it had some nice details on it.  Here is a shot of some exhaust ports located on either side of the engine. This thread seems like a fine place to dump this....I'm sure I'll have more to dump soon....much crap-ola on the HD....Aloha!

I like it! It has that, "We used all the good stuff for company, we'll have to make Stone Soup feel" Stone soup is also known as Summa soup. You add summa this and summa that. It never tastes the same twice and it always tastes good. I would get rid of the potato after the photo session though. I'd love to see the comments out front though. BJ

I have made lots of "summa soup". Believe that!   This shot is not the more arty kind but rather an event.  We were in Ohio, USA this past fall season and on the way, in darkness, rain and not knowing how far to go on a back country road..a big buck deer decided to run into the side of our van..  This is the result.  All is fixed now and I hope the deer is doing ok, getting through the "run-in" apparently and through hunting season, hopefully.

Had it been in front of the van..oh, my!  Fortunately for the deer and for us he hit us totally from the side, crossing the road and we happened to be in that space.  The rest of the short holiday went well, crumpled van and all.   So, here is one from real life made for the insurance company.              TomDart.

I once had a fox hit me! I was idling at a crosswalk light, there was no damage to Sir Red other than a very stunned look. He ran off shaking his head at the tale he'd have for Vixen and the kits! My daughter is somewhat of a magnet for turkeys. They don,y fly well and sort of launch themselves hopefully skyward off low hills. On her way home there's a section of road which has a turkey farm. She's replaced 4 windsheilds in her car! There were a number of dents as well, she finally decided to take a longer route when she bought a new car. BTW I agree w/ Damia this is such a cool thread! There's one in the writers forum, Drekkin started a Haiku challenge Dec 5, I posted Dec 20. That's the whole thread! Wanna hear a haiku? It' called
"Winter Jewels"
Skies,winter grey. Stun!
The senses reel! The beauty,
 of an ice ringed moon!

That's all folks! Only 18 people have even checked it out! This is much more lively so I hope no one minds if I hang out a while!

Very cool!  The shadows sort of look like Asian character writing, which is an art form, IMHO.  This was going so fast and furious for a while. I hope it just fizzled naturally, and not because I posted writing instead of photography.

I was asked by a couple of folks about a full sized photo of my avatar, and I thank them very much (!), so here it is. It was a long shot so I've cropped it so as to be able to show him full size. It was a crappy shot so I had to work with it quite a bit (and I'm not very good at that). It was the smallness of the size of the squirrel that made me think to make it an avatar and I kinda thought he was cute.

And...thank you Kort for starting this thread so I could post it without being totally humiliated.

From a writer's pont of view I find it adorable! The squirreel looks as if he's charging that chickadee!  The second looks like he's a furlong ahead at the preakness! Great shots! WOW! I didn't see the last three. I love how close you get! Sad about the tree, I loved climbing as a child, and now have rediscovered it with my grand daughter! Keep posting here, but some of these should go out front! I'm adding yoy to my favorites so I won't miss anymore. Monday I'll have a look in your gallery. Off for my nap, work tonight!.

I just noticed the genre challenge for January.  I missed out on that one, so here is a historical shot I took the other day of  "The Last Picture Show"  .... from the movie by the same name.  The book was written by Larry McMurtry, and this is in his hometown of Archer City.  He still lives there, and runs a bookstore.  The theater was abandoned for years, till the book and movie made it 'famous' (or 'infamous') again.  The wall just around the corner is mostly open, as is the ceiling, but there is still a stage, and they still set out chairs and have stage shows, weather permitting.   It was a movie theater  quite a few years ago.   My husband said that he and his siblings spent many great Saturday afternoons there going the picture show.

Taken the other morning, when it was cold and frosty.  With the wild turkeys not in the frame, there must have been nearly a hundred.  I had never seen that many before.

Firesnuffer ( ) posted Sat, 27 January 2007 at 7:01 PM

Whew, I went nostalgic for a moment...I'm ok now, just remembering going to the movies as a kid. Neat shot of the ol' theater, CavalierLady!!
I've had about a dozen wild turkeys come through my place on a couple of occasions but haven't seen them since. I can't imagine a hundred! Lucky you!!!

On my daughter's ride home from work she passes a place where they sort of launch themselves to try and get airborne, They kept taking out her windshield. She bought a new car and now travels several miles out of the way to save her windshield, I asked what about the turkeys you hit? She said the first time she stopped to see if it was OK. A coyote came out of the bushes so fast she knew they must just wait there for the turkeys to get hit! She reckons the coyotes much be much smarter than the turkeys, because the turkeys keep getting hit but the coyotes learned a new way to hint!
