Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 27 5:13 pm)
I could be wrong, but I don't think running Poser in compatibility mode will change how Vista handles OpenGL, which is one of the main sticklers I've heard about Vista and Poser/D|S.
But then, as I don't have Vista (nor plan to unless I have to), I'm not certain on that.
Although that link sounds interesting.

If you're joking that's just cruel, but if you're being sarcastic, that's even worse.
First you have to have XP SP2, then you have to download a few files, I will get my list....and then post it. There is a file that also has to be added so that the desktop acts like the mac...let me dig it all out for you. You can download Rocket Dock http://www.punksoftware.com/rocketdock for your icons now though, but the rest I have to go get.
Get you XP to act like a MAC ... ;}
have you seen my avatar ;}

This same tip also works in XP: if you have a program that is designed for use in Windows 98, you can right-click on the icon and set the program-compatibility to Windows 98.
But by now, most programs should be working fine on XP. ;)

Flyakite offer a very attractive and easy to install/use freeware suite that will convert Xp's appearance to a Mac envoirment.

Hope this helps.
There is also WindowBlinds.

thats the Shell I use. simple, very customisable, small resource footprint, fast and stable. Works with all the programs I've thrown at it... (tried windowsblinds and found it unstable, but had no such problems with Aston). Also works from 9x upwards.Attached Link: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,128537-c,optimization/article.html
Here is the link I mentioned above.With Windows Vista it's very slow and sluggish and takes huge pause breaks between tasks or something. Then there are the horrid Windows needs permission windows that you get for everything, and I do mean everything! It's a nightmare.
Then there is the huge amount of space it takes.
Some of the specs:
minimum 40 gig hard drive with 15 gigs free.
256 graphic card
512 memory
and I forget what else. It's a huge resource hog though. Even Powerland when I went to order my new system they told me to stay clear of Vista for a couple of years and do stick with XP Pro.

I spent 7 or 8 hours on the phone today talking to Dell tech support trying to get my computer OS installed and HD partitioned. The last guy I talked to actually knew something!!!! He managed to get my computer up and working in less than 90 minutes when others spent 4 or 5 hours without resolution!
Anyway, he's not all that gung ho on Vista either but he has to learn it for his job and he gave me some tips to pass along to you guys that may help if you don't already know about them.
He said that many programs are having incompatibility issues with Vista but there is a work around to get most of your programs to work with it.
He said to download whatever program you want to install. Right click on the file that you downloaded. Click "properties" and then pick "Compatible for Windows XP". Set it to XP and then continue with the installation.
He said you can do the same thing with programs that install from a CD simply by locating the setup.exe file before installing it and doing the same thing as above and then installing the .exe file.
He said it won't work for every program, but it's been helping with a great number of them.
I also ran across a link yesterday about getting Windows XP to act like Vista. I don't know if anyone is interested in that but if I can find the link again I will post it.
Anyway, sorry if this is reundent information. I've been mostly offline for the past 2 weeks and missed a great number of threads. Man you guys are chatter boxes! hehe
