Subject: Poser 6 sr3 X Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

softcris ( ) posted Wed, 21 February 2007 at 2:53 AM · edited Sun, 21 July 2024 at 12:28 PM

I just have changed to a more robust OS:Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

and Poser 6 (have the pacht for memory in it!) starts to become MAD! V3 has its legs and waist apart and kind of streched..like a 'rubber band'..can't fix it but have to start new window and reload V3 again! Takes now even more time to render the scene than when I was using 32bits! Same old (3,40GHZ Intel P4 - 650- /4GB ram DDR2 667/-video card 512MB AtiRadeon X1600Pro) hardware in it! can't render at full fire ..it's a mess..

Please anyone with the same problem and had solved it? HOW? Thanks!
Cris

Feels like driver problems. Check for the latest version of your graphics drivers.

is poser installed as a 32 bit application ?  it should auto install to the program 32 bit files, and it certainly sounds like driver problem,..how many processors are you assigning?  check task mgr and make certain that poser is assigned both processors.
mine runs like a dream.  sorry to hear.  lots of drivers and stuff at planet 64..you might have to install and re install several times...i use a dual boot.  good luck.

softcris ( ) posted Fri, 23 February 2007 at 11:02 AM

well the program install itself in the C:Program Files (x86)Curious Labs
but as you said it has both options in 64 bits..so I asumed that even being instaled into tha directory insatead of:C:Program Files     will not make difference because the WinXPPro64 bits has indentified as a 32 bits program RIGHT?
not?
1processor . Latest driver from Ati radeon - Catalyst vers. 07.1/ Open GL vers. 6.14 / Direct 3D vers.6.14( for my X1600Pro -512MB video card.)
Mobo also has the latest from Asus officail site.
Now you tell me that I have to insatl and re-instal several times? Could that be right?
I'm new into the 64 bits world and I do appreciated to know for SURE that I have to do that.
Thanks,
Cris

I feel your pain - but not with Poser though. Overall, I am preety happy with poser on win 64.
I don't think that it is a Poser specific issue...I agree there might it might graphics card issue.
But should render times be different ?. I have a Nvidia card - go down to your local big box store, buy a Nvidia card and try it..if it does not work - return it. If it does, hope you can afford it.

That said (I know the flames are going to come)...if you are still at the install stage, and have XP pro 32 bit re-install it - and file your 64bit version purchase under "I bought the hype - shame on you M$!"  Unless you have a specific 64 bit application that you want to use - XP64 is a waste of time and money. Too many problems - not worth the minor performance increase. Do a dual boot if you must.

I don't have a 32bit version so I am stuck ...

No! No way! I already spend a lot of money in that system, plus the 64 bits win xp pro..no way I'm going to take that...
I have re-install the Ati driver and the drivers for mobo but b´nothing it seems that now only do render a 1-2 steps after 'draft' mode in FireFly. Using V3,M3 and some large 'figures' and 'props' good light etc...that's what give me, a 2 steps after the draft mode. Increble!
Can't stop to be furious!
Poser simply stops, freezes all and just don't go throught.
I wonder...what Curious Labs would say to a customer about that.
I keep blaming Poser..since all the rest works fine.

They would say that it is designed for the standard XP operating systems, ie. 32bit, and that they do guarantee it's functionality on a 64bit XP installation.  It's what they don't say on the specs that means as much as what they do say.

sorry softcris,

I did not mean to upset you ;-) I've had my new system, with the same major $ investment for almost 6 months now. All and all, the $132.00 is spent on XP64 does not represent much of that ...but the time tracking down issues?? My advise was based on experience.

But like I said, Poser works fine on my system. Because I do alot of different types of graphics and video work, I tend to jump between alot of apps, and moving to XP64 has not been smooth.
As soon as I fix one problem, and get the sucker running - a new problem with a different program crops up.

Windows update kills quicktime - hours searching for a solution.
Installing Adobes Encore DVD makes DVD burner disapear - hours more for reg hack.
Getting light scribe to work took a 2 month wait for updated drivers...almost gave up with that one.
Premiere pro works good - but mpeg export crashes.
After effects had proplems until I limited it's amount of memory below my 4 gb - sad.
Photoshop sometimes acts strange - but nothing major.
Particle Illusion exports .png image files that Cinema4d can't read - but other programs can.
Anime Studio exports .psd image files that photoshop won't open.
Hexagon is buggy - but that is hexagon.
Z-Brush wont even Install - (and I had big hopes for that).

Note all these programs ran fine on my old 32bit xp system - abit slower.

And the list is larger...

I just got a new computer with XP Pro (64) and tried Poser on it a few times last night and didn't have any problems.

Are you sure you have SR3 patch installed for Poser 6?  I installed SR2 and then SR3 as I didn't know if I needed both.

Also, perhaps try uninstalling Poser and then reinstalling it again along with both SR patches. See if that helps.  Other than that I don't really know what to suggest.
