I use a basic card reader to bring up the images list in "my computer", copy and save to a temp image file in documents. Then to take a quick look at jpg I simply open with one of the Windows viewers, decide what really needs deletion and note that. For raw, I open the temp image file in RawShooter and take a quick look and maybe do a few corrrections, saved where I want it along with the original.
Final work is done in Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro saved with the originals in the suitable document file. For many images, I make a folder and save "unedited" and software processed in separate subfolders. *No special software is used to upload from the camera card, just the card reader.
I have discovered too many "temp" image folders..I forget to go back and empty those or to simply cut and paste to a permanent folder. : )
Draining batteries can be a significant issue with some cameras. After a few tries with my first digital p&s with manual options and a whopping 4mp, I got a card reader. That makes it really easy if you have a place to put the images when the card is read.
My method is simple to upload...but I got into my method of workflow, too. Sorry, that was not the issure in this thread. There are likely easier ways.
Still, I would not go back to upload from camera. Also, with some cameras and cards, if you delete an image from the card via the computer, the cards can do funny things. So, all my in-card deletes are done with the camera, generally a format when the care info is all saved and backup made.
I use Digital Pro for taking the images off the card. It provides almost everything I need to keep track of images, I find it much better for my use than Adobes Lightroom for cataloging and tracking, and it allows for transferring images taken in the field to my main pc. I hook my camera up to my computer via USB and then iPhoto does the rest.
