And cause someone will ask:
Poser 7 generally runs fine under Windows Vista. There are a few issues that might require workarounds. Please refer to our Windows Vista knowledge base article for details: http://www.e-frontier.com/article/articleview/2127/1/858/
We strongly recommend saving hair groups to the Hair library with their underlying prop. This is because hair is grown from vertices and must be associated with vertices on its underlying object in order to function correctly.
To save hair to the Library palette, select a hair group (or its underlying prop) then click the ADD TO LIBRARY button. You will be prompted to select your desired hair subset(s). Clicking the SELECT SUBSET button opens a hierarchical display allowing you to select the hair groups that you want to save. Be sure to save the parent object!
When saving a subset of props to the library only the currently selected object will retain its morph targets. To save morph targets on all members of the subset choose Edit->General Preferences... and uncheck "Use external binary morph targets" temporarily. Once the subset has been saved to the library, "Use external binary morph targets" may be reactivated.
Adding a prop to the library: When adding a prop with morph targets that is parented to a figure, the prop might not retain its morph targets if Poser is set to write external binary morph targets. In case you encounter this problem, please choose Edit->General Preferences... and uncheck 'Use external binary morph targets' temporarily. Once you're done adding figure-parented props with morph targets to the library, you may reactivate 'Use external binary morph targets'.
Texture search: In previous Poser versions, textures were occasionally specified by their file name only. Since in that case the search mechanism has to search with just the name, it will find the first texture with a matching name. Please keep your texture names unique to avoid loading the wrong texture when opening legacy scene files. Poser 7 always attempts to store an application relative path or an absolute path (whichever is appropriate) in the scene file. Also, the Poser 7 Texture Manager always displays the full path of all loaded or previously loaded textures. This will aid in determining the location of any texture file.
Rendering in separate process: In some cases, Area Render might fail when rendering in a separate process. If you encounter this problem, please retry, render a full frame, or consider rendering internally.
Color on the alternate diffuse channel of a root node will not preview in the document window.
If you have difficulties using the Face room's photo matching feature due to the rotation of the head in your photos not matching the selection outlines, please consider rotating your photographs in an image editing application.
A note on using the DivX codec when making movies: the DivX codec can only be used with standard aspect ratio (4:3).
Some 3D file formats have restrictions in output size. In 3D Studio (.3ds), an object can consist of no more than 65,000 polygons. In Lightwave 5 (.lwo), the maximum size of a scene is 65,000 polygons. Please use the LWO2 export option if you want to export LWO files of objects larger that 65,000 polygons.
Using the Auto Install feature in the Content room might leave temporary files behind. Please delete the files in the temp folder if you want to conserve disk space (Windows only).
There is an incompatiblity with Unsanity's Window Shade X potentially causing an undesired Window Shade effect on Poser palettes. Please add Poser to Window Shade X' list of excluded applications if you encounter this problem (Mac OS X only).
Library thumbnails in PNG format that contain both data and resource fork can cause instabilities. Deleting the resource fork resolves this issue (Mac OS X only).

Is Phyton again able to influence OBJ-Import? I would like to get rid of that OBJ-File which I have to import for Wardrobe Wizard to work correctly....

Wow! A lot of fixes there!
efstarlet:
One thing I didn't see was any reference to faulty import into Vue6Inf [certain props, figures not coming in], is this regarded as a Poser 7 issue [6 doesn't seem to be affected] or is it regarded as a Vue issue??
TIA!
Injustice will be avenged.

True. My problems are fixed. I have a scene here which failed to simulate correctly in the cloth room. Fixed. Tried Wardrobe Wizard. Fixed.
A happy customer here.

"- Now shutting off raytracing automatically if raytracing database setup fails due to lack of memory."
Will the program alert us raytracing is deactivated or will it just complete the render without the it? You could spend days not knowing why a feature that requires it is not turning out right. LOL.
My brain is just a toy box filled with weird things
But it still needs much time to delete a figure, although they say this was fixed. Sigh. Well, It seems that I need more memory.

Backgrounds will render with Firefly. I believe the Vue situation is resolved (I've had no problems with it).
Edit:
You'll also be happy to hear that image exporting now works as expected, so you can use the compression settings.
Bantha, deleting a figure is faster on most machines but if you're still experiencing slow down, please send an email to technical Support. Khai is correct about how the delete function works.

It was release about a week ago.

Quote - I'm having issues with the textures looking blurry even when I use stewer's script to remove the texture filtering.
did you adjust your "min shade rate" in your render settings? in P56 the default was 0.5, P7 defaults to 1.0 it makes a huge difference.

Can anyone with Propack and Poser7 do a quick render test with the P4 rendering engine? I'd really like a time comparison between renders. The scene doesn't have to be anything elaborate, just a quick figure render for comparison on how long Poser 7 takes to render 1 frame vs. Poser Pro Pack. (Should I start a new thread for this?)
I've had several people tell me how much faster Poser7 is than any of it's predecessors, and I'm interested to see if this is true...especially after this service release.
Thx!
I dont know about anyone else but this SR1 made things worse for me. When I render a simple scene, the blue bar moves like normal until it get to the end and then it freezes and then Poser 7 stops responding. I never had so many problems with one program. Thank the great spirit for Poser 6
Times:
In P4 itself: 1:15
In P6: 1:40
In P7 after the service release: 2:10
I suppose this is "faster" in some mathematical sense, just as
texture filtering is "correct" in some mathematical sense.
Also, the SR didn't fix the main P7 feature, which is
that the Firefly renderer gives me a beautiful picture of a
polar bear in a snowstorm every time. (i.e. pure white.)
I'm sure this is also more "correct" than the ugly random
stuff in the real picture.

Very happy to hear that the cloth room has been addressed. Also it sounds like the problem that showed up with V4 and binary morph targets is fixed:
Looking forward to working with the fixes over the weekend.
Ockham,
please understand that the Poser 4 render engine in Poser 7 is solely provided for backward compatibility and not optimized for speed.
If you experience problems rendering with FireFly, please contact e frontier tech support via www.e-frontier.com/go/emailtech and describe step-by-step how to reproduce the issue. We will then investigate what causes it.
Edit: If you a rendering in a separate process when this problem occurs, please try to render internally instead and let us know whether that makes a difference.
Thanks,
Uli
I was having trouble with getting blank scenes with firefly and I just reset my preferences, and now it is rendering fine :) Whew!

@Teyon: Cleaning prefs, uninstall and re-install solved it for now....
but that doesn't mean a lot, because the original install rendered OK
until I started fooling with the texture-filtering settings.
So we'll see what happens.

Correction! It wasn't resetting my preferences that solve the blank render, it was un checking seperate process in the render setting in preferences. Now it is working fine. If you want the seperate process, check and make sure your firewall isn't blocking it

Every time you load a blank V4 from your Figures library, or every time you open an existing scene containing V4?
Quote - Great news about the Service Pack .....does anyone know if they have corrected the "import Background" problem or does anyone know a workaround ?
I just d/l SR1 but haven't installed it yet.
Background pics render just fine with Firefly.
Unless they fixed it, the workaround to render a background picture with the P4 renderer - smply make sure Display>Show Background Picture is toggled OFF, then render away.
Cheers

Oh, and a wiener dog!
Huh, I don't know what to tell you if your install will not load V4 from default state. I suggest you contact DAZ tech support (particularly since you paid money for V4 and ought to be able to use what you bought).
Quote - Crashed upon completion of render. Poof, gone!!!
IMO that is nearly certainly Poser's fault. I could see problems with the figure if the render wouldn't start, but if it's crashing at the END of the render then it seems pretty clear to me that everything about the figure and scene is okay, finalizing the render should be the simplest part (write a temp bitmap file and free up the memory allocated).
Downloaded the service pack as soon as I spotted this thread.
Thanks! :thumbupboth:
OK -- it's now rendering scenes that it crashed on before.
Wonderful. And I mean that.
