Subject: VISTA and POSER is a NO DEAL ......

BAR-CODE ( ) posted Sun, 18 March 2007 at 3:38 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 4:42 AM

After 3 day instaling Vista 32 home /vista 32 home premium and Vista home premium 64...
I have to say What ever you do ...dont DO This ... dont use Poser 5 6 7 on VISTA..
When you have it working be happy be verry happy
Otherwise Be SCARRED be Verry SCARRED... its just not working
We used 5 different systems and 3 diffrent posers 5,6,7 ..and 95% of the time it does not work..

This is not POSER'S error but VISTA is BAD real BAD...
When you can get a other OS then VISTA use it ..dont use vista..

This weekend adventure costed us $400... and a lot of unbelieveble idiotic things from MS.vista...

Maybe in the Future it become better but for now its USELESS...

Such a shame they call this a WOW moments ..   WOW ... Works  Only  Worthless..

I am back to installing Xp Pro again on what poser 5,6,7 fly''s

bummer. I also hope that any delay in the release of leopard (Mac OS 10.5.x) isn't related to vista problems (or problems with microsoft licensing), although I ain't heard anything yet.

Arvanor ( ) posted Sun, 18 March 2007 at 4:29 PM

Hmm Poser runs on my Vista smooth and without problems. I think you can ask 1000 people and get 1000 different answers. Also a lot of games that run on my Vista without problems run on the pc of a friend of mine with lots of crashes. But a native Vista version of Poser would be a nice thing, especially a 64 bit version in the future.

If by my life or death I can protect you, I will!

BAR-CODE ( ) posted Sun, 18 March 2007 at 5:50 PM

Well ... with WE i meant Me and some people from the local computershop..
We did do a lot of testing with Vista.. in total 20 systems of diffrent composition and speeds Cpu's etc etc..

We found a lot of things not working but mine part was Poser and SILO and HEX2
SILO runned smooth on ALL systems Hex had some more problems but still installed and worked 99% .. but some things of HEX i can point at vista ..because Hex is not fully working on itself..
Poser just did not install or installed but never finish installing ... or installed but never worked longer then ten minutes then it was crashed ...

And All versions of Vista Slowed down the internet with 30% ...
So im not bashing on Vista ..Thats the only thing Vista can do for itself ..bashing Vista... :}

I bought a new puter yesterday (waiting for it to come up from Portsmouth now) from PC World - I went in with a list of things I wanted plus that I DID NOT want Vista.  I found a nice dual core m/c with XP Media Centre installed and all the other boxes ticked - they didn't have it in store which is why I''m having to wait, but the plus point other than NON-VISTA is that because they have decided to discontinue this model - I got it £170 cheaper :-)

I had 3 staff ask me why I didn't want Vista and I still don't think they understood my reasoning.  Seems with most average pcworld staff, if you don't want a computer for games, watching TV or office work, then WHY do you want one :cursing:

It still baffles me that enough people wanted to watch TV on their computer that they've dedicated this much development time on hardward and software to make it happen. Don't those people have TV's?

Almost every other Windows release has needed at least a year or two stabilize, so why would this OS be different? Because Bill Gates went on national TV bragging about spending five years concentrated on developing it? Apparently that didn't make a diffference.

If you're still on Win2K, more power to you. I plan to stick with XP until they stop supporting it, and by then I may find a non-Windows alternative viable.

i run poser seven  on xp64 and love it.  it's fast and clean.  vista seems like it has lots of bells and whistles...that stuff eats up processing and memory...i like a lean machine.
xp64 is clean and works fine with a dual core processor...i will wait out vista for some
time.

Just to point out the obvious, Poser (any version) does not have Vista on its list of supported OS, so it really shouldn't be any surprise if it doesn't work. I'm amazed so many people keep trying it on Vista expecting otherwise.

True so true it's the same way for PC hardware so many people don't read the requirements of the hardware to see if the OS they have in their system can support it. But what can you expect there are many people that can't read a SIMPLE traffic sign and follow that.

I hope that is not the case (but i do agree on your statement about MILL though).

I have poser (7) up and running pretty darn slick on vista64 home(?). This is a new HP since my machine was 5 years old and totally slow for most things it was time to bite the $800 bullet and just get the new machine.

The biggest problem i ran into was using the "settings transfer utility" that was bad and locked up a bunch of files that poser used. the folks at e-frontiers were quick about trying to help me out and even though i found the problem (for me) was a botched settings transfer poser did install (I turnd off the protectin manager that challenges ever stinking thing and things run quickly).

i hope that i am not the outlier here (with a vista working well) and i do NOT discount your experience with VISTA. E-frontiers may be able to lend a hand on this though.

I hope they figure this out quickly, Microsoft released a statement right after the Vista debut saying that all support and updates of XP will cease within one year.

On this OS works Poser  6 and 7 - with all the bugs in Poser 7 - but stable.

I bought a new laptop for my mother(72!), and I insisted that we got with  windows XP and not Vista. And if I see all these complaints, I'm glad I did. I think the big difference between a new upgrade for  an operating system and an application like Poser, is that you can't fall back easily to the old version , or you have to make a double or multiple boot installation which takes a lot of harddrive space and causes other troubles. Speaking about upgrades: I upgrade to Autocad 2007 last year from AutocadLT 2006. Last month I got an E-mail from autodesk where they told me that I was allowed to keep using the old version. I was unpleasant surprised about that! as if it wasn't legally possible to use the old version and by some reason I was granted to do so!. Suppose this would happen with poser, Vue or whatever other popular application around here: They wouldn't sell any upgrade at all!.

Thijs.

Vista's sales have fallen far short of expectations. Seems the only significant market is computer manufacturers who include it as the installed os. Microsoft's response has been to blame the product's disappointing reception on software pirates and Apple's PR department.
Many of the reviews from the tech gurus I've read blame Vista's nasty temperment on Microsoft's obsession with digital medium "rights" and they way MS's programmers have implemented code to make sure you don't get access to something you may not have paid for, at least by their definition. I have no idea whether this view is accurate or not. But I do know Bill Gates is not Satan incarnate. He's just the devil's cabana boy.

no, they announced that XP support was to run till 2011. I can find the link if you want. (support was supposed to end 2008 but has been extended.)

honestly it seems fine in my hands. I don't use the pc for gaming but did toss on Battlefront 2 and such.
i had to turn off the yappy 'are you sure you want to run this' system. but overall it is pretty nice.
i did just simply go out to bestb*y and pick up a preconfigured box, and then ripped a bunch of the free ware off it and added avast virus.
things do seem to work just fine.

Having said this, it was a major hardware update (1-> 2 gb ram, athelon 2400+ to 2.4 ghz dual core, plus some nicer graphics card) and this was a box certified to run with vista home or whatever.

I will say for the first time I actually have been able to edit 90 minute movies (Pinnacle studio 10.x) and do cloth simulations and not have to wait for an entire weekend so the new hardware is very nice at least and seems to handle my two main applications.

I am wondering if one can just walk into a store and ask them to do a practical demo and slap down the poser disk...  :D

That isn't really a surprise when you look at the cost of upgrading - the problem is if you are running XP Pro you are limited in which versions of Vista you can install and actually do an inplace upgrade - otherwise its a matter of reinstalling all those little time consuming things like photoshop plugins etc..

So from my point of view I can only upgrade to either Business or Ultimate and with Ultimate sitting at around $AUD500+ - at that sort of money I'm a good part of the way towards a new system.

It just seems as though M$ has priced themselves out of the upgrade market

So i bet you doing a Highschool course did make all the difference....
I think i need to go back to school and then Vista will run smooth....

just ask your self WHY do you want to upgrade to Vista ...
If its not a 100% need ..like a new system that has Hastela Vista installed ..well then you upgrade to it.
When you have a system that run fine ... WHY .... should you Downgrade to vista...

Poser on Vista does work fine, but this really depends on the graphic card you are using.
My first vista install was with and ATI X1300PRO.... poser would run... but there would be delays going from menu to menu... very slugish...

once I change video cards to nvidia...poser worked fine... no delays...

just curious, those who are haveing probelms.. are you using ATI??

Various authors quoted:

This is true, and mostly due to business reasons (for example, Intel has made it public knowledge that Vista isn't getting installed on their computers anytime soon (outside of testing, R&D, etc)... mostly because it's that much of a change from XP internally). > Quote - Then again I did take a computer course in high school...

That's funny... I just got done writing a perl script today to automate a huge chunk of the more esoteric maintenance functions on an NIS master server I'd built just last week, which will in turn operate a shedload of build servers spawned under VMWare ESX where I work. That said, I'm not surprised at all if Vista has problems in some cases, works fine in others. Why? Because not everyone upgraded from the same state and condition, not all PC configurations have been tested for compatibility (it would be statistically impossible to do so), and not because a given user happened to take a computer class in High School. ( I remember taking one of those... it was on an Apple IIe, I think). Do me a favor, please - if you're going to rake on someone or brag on computer literacy/non-literacy, try to remember that you're in the company of people - some of whom might just know a bit more about these things than you do. Thx in advance. /P

I don't have troubles with Vista, its running just fine. I also used the Vista upgrade adviser before i upgraded. It said my processor should be replaced, i have a 3.40 P4 W/HT. I do plan on getting a new board and the new core 2 processor in the future. But for now its running just fine. I can play Battlefield 2142 with no problems and Oblivion runs great too along with Battlefield 2 and all the upgrade packs. Those are the only games i have so i cant speak for anything else

My Internet connection stayed the same, 16582 Down and 985 Up Comcast Cable, zoom zoom :). Poser 7 runs fine, it has some bug but it had bugs on XP, Hex 2 runs fine,Carrara 5 runs fine, though i have to use the native import. I had to upgrade my Nero because it wasn't compatible and PSP8 which Corel says isn't compatible runs great lol, so i don't understand that one.

So as far as Vista being Useless, thats just BS. Oh and i bought the Vista Premium and the Dream Scenes are awesome. I Bought it because i want all the features Vista has to offer, even if i don't use them all.Its a personal choice :)

HEX2? Hexagon 2? From my experience with XP, Poser and Hexagon, I'd check the video driver. Both benefited from better OpenGL support than Microsoft provided. Often, programme compatibility listings on the box are as much a question of what the manufacturer is willing to answer questions about as about what actually works.

jt411 ( ) posted Tue, 20 March 2007 at 5:01 AM

Easy Bar-Code, I wasn't trying to take a shot at you :)
So far Poser 6/7, and Hexagon 2 are running smooth as silk on my Vista machine. Max 8 however is pretty choppy. ATI and Nvidia are promising better Open GL support by summer.
I'm installing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. right now, so that'll be the real test!

the-negative ( ) posted Tue, 20 March 2007 at 6:53 AM

STALKER does NOT work nicely with Vista. Just one game that they forgot to really patch.
The gamespot review says some stuff about bugs.

But other than that, EVERY 3D APP I use works fine. That goes from Autocad to Zbrush. 3ds MAX 9 with the productivity suite runs like a charm.

Also the reason why I endorse postwork (:D)

Didn't read that book, Bopper, but I did catch the film "Pirates of Silicon Valley" which was fairly accurate for a television drama. Thanks for recommending the title, I'll have a look for it next time I visit the library.

Really love my XP Professional x64. Poser 6, Carrara 5 Pro, Cinema 4D and other programs run very smooth. Also no problems with Wacom tablets. I'm only missing a DVD-RAM packet driver and a driver for the printer port on my DSL router (NETGEAR).

Plan to keep myself away from Vista as long as possible.

By the way: the missing OpenGL support with Vista could be responsible for some trouble...
