Greetings! I don't think there's anything like that for the primatives. There are such things like that for other things like a rock or imported items. When you click on an object there's a bunch of buttons that appear next to them, beginning with an "A", a color square, and various others. On some objects there will be an "E". Click that and you can increase the poly count by adjusting the slider and clicking the image "smooth" or "rough". You'll see this "E" on rocks and imported items.
You can not change the poly count in primitives... You can change the preview of all objects.. mesh, light mesh , texture and so on... and you can by using E edit mesh function.... smooth out rough objects....

Ditto.
Can't change the poly count on Bryce Primitives. No real need to, they can't look any smoother.
With Bryce 6.0, and exporting those primitives, you can crudly control the poly count somewhat, and they won't look as smooth as they do in Bryce.
If you want something simple to make primitives and control poly count, try freeware like Wings3D, or the free Truespace 3.2

Welcome to the Bryce world !
The difference between bryce and the other common softwares is : the primitives objects
they are not made of polygons, but perfect mathematics formula, a sphere will ever be a sphere
(if it stay homothetic, of course !) whatever the point of view ! that's really fast and easy to build, just click on the primitive button you want, and see a perfect object !.
but if you want to modify a primitive object you have to group it with negative primitive
in the "A" button near the object choose, positive or negative and group the different objects
to create interesting and sometimes strange things
have a look at my gallery, the two last uploaded images are made with combination of primitives
try different combinations spheres, cones, torus, cube… infinite possibilities
have fun with bryce

Thanks all for the info and warm welcome. I'm more of a TrueSpace 6.6 user but I have been so impressed by all the images in your gallery I wanted to give Bryce a try. I bought ver 5.5 when it was on special a while ago and have just got around to using it.
Right now I'm doing a tutorial by Rudolf Herczog in 3D World #88. His screen caps looked a bit lower poly than what I was seeing on my screen so I thought perhaps I was missing something.
Thanks again, looking forward to meshing some of my TS models with Bryce landscapes. (Pun intended.)
Yeah, Rochr (Rudy) probably had the wireframe resolution turned down when making the screen shots is all. It's a visual option, and doesn't reflect on the actual number of polys of the mesh that resides in the scene.

Just started fooling around with Bryce 5.5. I've been looking in the manual for a way to change the number of polygons a primitive has but I can't find anything about it anywhere. For instance, when I add a cone primitive to my scene it comes in with 32 faces. Is there a way to change the number of faces to 16 or 64 or whatever I want/need?
Sorry to ask such a bone question, just can't find any info on this.
