A first preview.

Glamorous Jessi is one of the most underused figures in Poserdom - maybe because she doesn't have an (in)decent temple outfit? I'm working on a companion set for the V4 Warrior outfit I released a couple of days ago.

Here's what I've got so far. Sandals, belt, cape (adjusted from the V4 version), sword and scabbard, bow, wristguard, chest straps (not finished yet).

I'd like some input and ideas for the quiver. Should it go on the back, or should it go on her right hip? Also, what would you like for chest cover (if any grin)?

And, of course, what is OK in the current set, and what should be changed?

On a side note, I'm considering entering the marketplace. I'm pretty good at modeling, rigging and Python scripting, somewhat versed in creating procedural materials, and completely lousy at texturing. Any tips on subjects/models that would do well in the MP?

Well  ....what whould do good in the MP ..this does ;}
why not sell this stuff and make some money for newer software MAX 9 orso ..
And then giva away some other things...
I do think you gave away enough so you may earn some money now :}
And dont worry about textures .. the MP here is Textures R 'US ... when you make a piece of cloth ..10 others here smack in tons of textures for it .....
So mister ... go and make money this time :-}

lookin' good so far IMVHO for speed-shooting, the action of releasing the string hand should smoothly move back to grasp the arrow (feather end), hence the quiver should go diagonally across the back. e.g. if right hand is string hand, then top of quiver is behind right scapula and bottom of quiver is above left butt.

OK, quiver on the back it is. Since I'm not planning on making this an armored outfit, speed-shooting would be a good idea for an archer wearing as little as this...

I'm planning a couple of tricks with the bow. It'll be a figure, which means that pulling the bow will not be a morph, it'll be accomplished by bending bones. Which will result in a more natural looking partial pull.
The bowstring will consist of three bones - center, upper and lower string. Moving the center will make a pulled bow pose much easier - just use the trans dials to move the center of the string to the right hand, and the rest of the string will follow. Bend the horns of the bow, and you're done.
I'll make a smart propped version of the arrow that'll position itself exactly on the string as it should, touching the bow just above the grip.
I'm considering not making the bow a conformed figure, but a parented one, that'll make it easier to use with other figures.

Looks great!! :D Can't wait!! A few modest suggestions: First off, great job on the belt and sword belt, looks real! Bow is an interesting shape, I have a similar one that has real sinue used for backing the bow. The bow could use a leather grip, but that could be added in a texture map. May I suggest that you make her sandels flat? Kinda hard running around the wilderness in heels, if'n you know what I mean. You'll find it most difficult to harness a back quiver while wearing a cloak, trust me, I know cause I've done it. The cloak will have to adjust around the quiver near the top, that way if it starts to rain you can pull the cloak over the fletchings and keep em' dry. But she'll look like a hunchback, so you might want to place the quiver on the outside. A torc about the neck would look spiffy! Maybe a dagger at the right thigh? A leather pouch or two to hold an extra string, bees wax, and some additional arrowheads? Instead of a skimpy arm guard, maybe an archer's leather bracer on both forearms? Why two, you ask? Because even though one will do, two makes you look like a bad @$$. I hear its all the rage among Conan-types. Leave the chest uncovered, it'll distract the bad guys (heh...) great stuff, I only wish it were for Aiko. cheers!! [~]D

Jeez--high-heel sandals!  :lol:  High-heels are artifacts of asphalt  streets and modern living!  It's be best to cover the right breast with an armored plate to protect it from the bow-string.

Ask ANY woman who ever did archery WHY if you have any questions.  It's like men wearing a nut-cup when playing sports.  The Amazons supposedly cut their right breast off, but covering it would do as well.

Breasts on an archer don't distract anyone when they're to far away to see'em!  An outfit can be practical AND sexy. Just use your imagination and a little research. ^__^ V,,

yeah, it's definitely a good idea to fix it so the bowstring don't scrape along nude boob-skin when releasing the arrow. but the left boob could still be nude.

Good tips!

I modeled the sandals as high heels since the feet of GJ are modeled in high heel pose. Morphs to flatten the heel are planned for a more ahem 'realistic' outfit.

I'll probably make the breast protection both in a right and left version, same with the bow and wristguard. After all, not everyone is right handed (I'm a lefty when it comes to shooting, but right-handed when it comes to fencing).

Elfwine, do you mean full bracers? The one I modeled here is a wrist guard that protects the inside of her forearm (hard to see in the render since the inside of her forearm is facing downward in default pose). 
Full bracers covering the entire forearm are actually easier to model.

Thanks about the ideas for pouches. A dagger plus pouches on her right hip to balance the sword, hmm, that would work.

I might make a similar outfit for Aiko, SP3, V3 and the G2 Females in the future.

Yes, full leather bracers. Well, they're almost full. They cover most of the forearm. 3riversarchery.com to see some. I think 3riversarchery also has some pics of leather pouches too. I could see that your model is a wrist guard, the type commonly used by compound and recurve shooters. The wrist guard is a modern adaptation of the old leather bracers. I've owned a few and could never get them to stay where they're supposed to, they kept slipping around. I shoot my longbow with leather bracers now. I have two types, which I make, one has speed hooks to make putting it on fast, the other has holes which the leather lace passes through, like shoe laces. You could model full bracers, just make a slit along the outside of the forearm and dangle some leather lace to look like its been tied together. cheers! [~]D

If her bow is going to be in her left hand I would definately include a breast cuplike guard for that. Though it rarely happens with modern bow materials it used to happen whereby a bow would break or an arrow woud either break or slip its nock and that could really hurt. Besides..looks cool! These could be attached to the chest straps you already have which are way cool too. The pouches and dagger are good ideas. And though the full forearm guard are my favorite what Conan uses are really more vambraces than arm guard. Since she is toting a long sword a set of vembracers is a cool idea since she doesn't have a shield to work with. To avoid the quiver and arrows interfering with the cape might also mount the quiver on a thigh strap or just add a morph target to flop the cape over the shoulder mounted quiver. I love the high heel sandals and I especially love the shape of the feet. Usually, in my opinion, Jessi's feet shape sucks but these look real nice. I agree though it would be nice having flat sole sandals as well. So if you can create morphs for the heels of the shoes to accomplish that GREAT especilly with thos neat leg straps! What will that do to those cute feet mts though?? Don't make them look like Jessi's standards funky feets...please! 8-( Sooooo...is this going to be a freebie or a purchase item? IF a purchase item where will it be sold and is it a stand-alone or something that will need another set of seed files? Looks real nice and can't wait to see the whole thing finished.

The feet morphs aren't mine. The model is Glamorous Jessi by Jim Burton, available at Content Paradise. Jim has completely reworked P6 Jessi, it's much more than a morph (mesh recut, revised bone structure, vastly improved hands, feet and arms, and more). She bends better than the original P6 Jessi too.

Glamorous Jessi's feet are modeled for high heels. She has "flat foot" morphs, and the sandals will contain matching morphs, plus heel adjustment morphs.

I like the idea of a cape morph. Think I'll do it that way.

And - this is going to be a freebie. I'm thinking of going commercial, but my commercial female items will be Aiko, V3 and V4 (possibly G2). Freebies will be for less used figures.

If I remember, the Glamorous Jessi flatfeet are set by a Pose, which also changes the JPs, so they actually work pretty well.  make sure you set the sandals up the same way, or make them high-heel or flatfoot only.

I think she has pretty feet, BTW!

Here is a set I'm thinking about fitting to Glamorous Jessi.  It started out for Supemodel Vickie, then I fitted it to Ingenue Vickie (as you can see), it still hasn't seen the light of day.  ;-)

I was planning a BIG two handled sword to go with it, one of the hold ups is I don't know how the over-the-shoulder scabbards work on them, I can't find any good pictures.

Anyway, the shoes are sort of nifty, I thought, sort of Gladiator Wedgies.

An over-the-shoulder scabbard must be able to move. When you draw a really big sword from behind your shoulder, your arm first moves up, but then it moves in a downward slash (drawing from the shoulder has the advantage of an immediate attack).
So the scabbard should be attached to a shoulder strap at the top of the scabbard. Balance is acquired by attacihing it more or less from the side.

My V4 Warrior set contains a drawing pose, but I do know that the scabbard and shoulder strap aren't modeled to reality. I intend to correct that for my upcoming (think weeks to months) commercial packages.

I haven't found any good pictures either. The M2/M3 Barbarian sets from DAZ have an over-the-shoulder scabbard, but they're not modeled to reality (whatever that may mean in the Poserverse grin).

I'll stick to what I know of human anatomy and physical possibilities/limits....

By the way, that outfit is pretty cool!

I never thought about that rotate part, but it make sense,  

The scabbard pictures I have mostly show two rings to one side of the scabbard, one down about 3" and the other down another 4" or so.  Each then connects to a short (2 or 3") strap.  That is all they show, and I don't know if this is even for a belt scabbard or an over-the-shoulder one (I THINK the latter, though).  

A really long sword wouldn't work too well from the belt, anyway, you would have Monty-Python kinda problems with it.  ;-)

Yeah Jim. I agree about the feet. Redo Jessi and Miki feet and resell them outa the box with fixed feets or at the very least make us desperate feets fetishists morphs for them so we can sleep happier at night! Like the outfit but can't see too big a sword. As an x-Fencer the outfit smacks of finesse and the best swordsmanship based on finesse is the eppe or foil. But you can do a really nice sabre for her here bridging the gap and if nicely designed to "coordinate" with all that Lame' and steel she will love you for the deadly fahion statement. :) The Sabre, thin varied in length in accordance to the arm length of the figure and deadly in the right person's hand. And bud she looks deadly. But she is gonna hate you if she gets into a brawl with those albeit beautiful shoes unless you shorten those heels or atleast put a "Low Heel" switch on them! :)

To be honest, I've never seen ANY old medieval paintings where a sword was scabbarded on the back. Think about it. If it was really that big, it was belted to the horse. The physics of drawing such a weapon would be impossible, your arm just isn't long enough to pull it clear of the scabbard and still keep your hand on the hilt. I think that perhaps those big, conan-type swords with the scabbard on back, is a Hollywood thing. And we all know just how important Hollywood has made it to "get it right" over the years.

Actually, no. There are scabbards that go over the back. But. The idea was solely for carrying them; if you had to unsheath, you ducked out of the strapping or released the buckle and let the sheath slide off as it cleared your body. The one-handed-over-the-shoulder pull was a trick, like the pulling-the-Colt .45-and-spinning-it-on-your-finger stuff is. Showboating.

I had already thought of that Dale B, mostly highlanders who were afoot. They would have had to carry their claymores (hope I spelt that right), and the dampness of northern UK would have made a scabbard a nessessity to keep your sword from all turning to rust before you got to the battle. But the highlands' claymore was a weapon used by so small a percentage (compared to the armies of the world), I didn't mention it. Still, my original point remains, I have yet to see a medieval painting of a back scabbard.

The longest blade I ever have held was a hand-and-a half, the blade was something like 3.5 feet long. A very well balanced weapon, easy to wield with one hand.
And still short enough to be scabbarded on the hip.

A Scottish claymore, of the original medieval type, is and hand-and-a-half sword. If you're looking for a true two-hander, you need to be looking at Germany. Overall length of around 55 inches, with a 42-inch blade. The Rogue Red set from DAZ has a sword which resembles a claymore. But swords like that seem awkwardly long. If you draw over the shoulder, you're limited by the length of your arm. From the hip, you have the extra length from hip to shoulder.

Absolutely correct, so maybe what Fantasy Archer needs is a modern set of Urban Warfare weapons, such as a sub-machine gun (UZZI or MP-5), chainsaw, and rocket launcher.  That would give us two outfits -- modern and retro.

As anyone who has ever done archery will know, use a bow without an arm guard at you own peril!

When I first started out in archery I managed to give myself an 8-inch long 2-inch wide bruise with my compound bow set at 58 pounds that made the default blue colour of Rendo now pale into insignificance. I didn't know the rainbow had that many colours! Hurt like a bastard for ages! The guys at my club just laughed and said 'see, I told you to keep your elbow joint parallel to the ground'. :lol:

I can really sympathise with woman doing archery with that extra somewhat sensitive protrusion!

I started with a 45lb recurve as a teenager. I had an arm gaurd, but forgot to put it on ONCE. never did that again. I still remember how much that hurt!
