I was thinking about signing up... does anyone have any good or bad things to say about them as far as their selection of realistic/everyday clothing, propos, and charicters?

I had a subscription and probably will after a few months after they have those months to fill up with more new stuff.   There's a whole lot there, from clothing, hair, props scenes backgrounds...... it really is worth the investment.  My advice would be, to get a small subscription (you still get access to everything) and download everything......... and try it all out.   I did, and end up yearly getting a three month subscription, which will probably lead to me getting a lifetime one.

Their products are very good, versitile and run the gammut from modern cammo war gear in desert storm to victorian clothing.

Cool... is the anual/lifetime worth the DVD they offer?  Or do you get that with a 3 month as well?

I am a member and highly suggest the lifetime membership. I find the materials I have gotten from the site have been of high quality and very useful. I particularily like the newer items like well designed scenes with props and hi-res textures. In my opinion, it is a very good deal./ I check the site once a week to see what is new and it is always fun.

They have a lot of stuff you can't find anywhere else.  I've found things I've requested at other sites (like here) and then found them at PoserWorld.  The subscription is reasonable and the quality is top notch.

I adore my PoserWorld subscription.  Which reminds me, I need to renew soon!

There's such a fantastic selection...a little something (actually, a LOT) for everyone.  If you do decide to buy a subscription, be prepared to spend hours and hours downloading!

you can even go into the forums and make requests for new stuff or conversions.

it can sometimes take a month or two or three before it gets out and not everything gets done, but i've seen quite a few... and it doesn't have to be mainstream popular type stuff requested.

I have a lifetime and I highly recomend them.

Oh - One more thing: They support many different characters in terms of providing clothes.

The scenes are worth the subscription alone! You'll be thrilled with that site :-)

For me, the "main attraction" is the clothes.
I'm getting pretty good at making my own scenes and props, but I still can't do clothes, so Poserworld is still pretty much indispensable for those. Also, the large number of random props that are infinitely useful for filling in minor details in a scene. Things like picnic tables, a tin can, a spoon, etc, to fill in background clutter, etc to make a scene more believable. These days, almost every render I do includes something from Poserworld.

I echo Neyjour's comment.  I got the lifetime membership and spent almost 10 hours downloading everything on the first day!  LOL!!

Highly recommended.  It's a bizarrely fun site to search around in.

I've been a lifetime member for years, and have to say it;s probably the BEST money, penny for penny, I;ve ever spent for poser material. I'd have to say that if I were buying each of the outfits seperately I;d have spent 5x as much easily. The quality is fabulous and Steve and Laura are extremely inventive.

Go! Buy it! Now! believe me, you won't regret it!

It's amazing how many times you'll find the thing you're looking for at PoserWorld. BTW, just a reminder to Steve, because i know he'll read this. Um Steve... dropped clothes?

It can be erie... I will want something and suddenly it will show up as a new thing at Poser World just when I need it.

Yeah! dropped clothes :) The ones in the loft apartment are great but more more more would be grand.

I have a lifetime subscription and it is worth it. If they were to close for whatever reason tomorrow I'd still have had my money worth.

Another nice thing about Poserworld: if you get a subscription, get into the google group. Steve sends out emails to announce each new product (which, BTW, appear every week or so).

If you can afford it, I recommend getting a lifetime subscription now because if you don't you'll soon feel you've wasted your money by buying a 3 month or yearly subscription that you will absolutely want to renew. ;o)

I may be a lone voice here but I can't see anything at Poserworld which makes me want to subscribe. There is a couple of good items I saw when browsing through the subscription site updates, but not enough to justify the price. Are there more quality items available that you can only see as a subscriber? If this is the case then I don't understand, surely they should want to entice people!

There is a downloadable pdf catalogue that shows everything they have.
Basically, whether it's right for you or not depends on what exactly  you need, I guess. The thing I like best about it is tat it has so much reality-based stuff. "normal" clothes, real-world props and scenes, etc. I don't get into fantasy much, most of what I do is reality-based so fantasy and sci-fi props and  costumes are of only minimal value to me.
The main thing with Poserworld is how much stuff you get for the price. (compared with how much it would cost to buy all the items one by one).
If money is a major issie, then the cheapest alternative would be to buy a one-month trial subscription which would give you access to the entire site content for one month, then download everything and burn it all to a few CDs (or one DVD). otherwise the best deal would be the lifetime subscription which would give you access to everything there now as well as everything they ever produce in the future.

If i were to assess your needs and expectations based on the images you have posted, i would say that Poserworld may not be a good fit for you. Your style, themes and level of quality are higher than most merchants produce. You may find some useful items, and it may be worth the price, but the majority would not match the quality i see in your gallery.

Based on my personal experience, on a scale of 1 to 10 i would say that Poserworld quality ranks around 4 to 7 depending on what it is and when it was produced. The older stuff (~7 yrs old?) ranks lower, though it may have been quite good at it's time, and the newer stuff i'd say is getting quite good. 

Steve is no Stonemason or Uzilite, but he is much better than me.

****wheatpenny - I've just checked out the catalogue. There are some good items in there, I just think you'd have to want alot of them to get value for money. I must say that if I needed regular clothing then I would think about getting a subscription as there are lots of stuff here, & from what's been said it's of high quality.

**Tyger_purr - Thanks. I generally really have to know what I'm buying regarding clothing items as they must have enough options for me to morph them to my characters, regarding fits &  movement.

I hope one day to learn how to model my own clothes, the standard set by some vendors is now really high!******

What i like best stormchaser, is the variety, especially for someone starting out.  Its relatively affordable, and its why i suggested the temporary subscription.  YOu can go in paying three months worth, download EVERYTHING they have to date, and three months of updates and decide if you want more.

Its the sheer plethora of items, for several different figures.  Sceens, backgrounds props textures, seamless tiles, hair characters...... it really is  a treasure trove.

One thing its best for, is mix and match .... taking figures for one thing, and using them for another purpose.

Well, I had a very bad experience with Poser World's owner - Alan ?. Which was probably my own fault, but it still hurt and I would not recommend the site for this reason. I had joined up when I was brand new to Poser and even new to the Internet, passwords etc. One evening I could not log in not matter how hard I tried for whatever reason. I emailed customer service and told them. They (Alan - which I did not know was THE OWNER, as he informed me later) reset the password and for some reason - perhaps I ke[pt typing it wrong I have carpal tunnel - still could not get in. He emailed me back and said "Why are you still bothering me?" I assumed it was some rude teenager on the other end and emailed him back telling him he was the nastiest person I had dealt with. he immediately emailed me back and said he had banned me from Poserworld forever and had refunded my money and that I had to delete everything I had downloaded. Now you can believe me or not, but as the merchants and RR will tell you, I have purchased over 1200 items here at RR alone with very few problems and those are normally missing files or something and corrected immediately by merchants. When I tried to email Alan back with an apology, he had even blocked my email address so that it was rejected by his server. I must have really gotten him on a bad day because calling someone a nasty person certainly does not normally get this response and I have to be pretty frustrated to call complete strangers any names at all. This is not the way to do business. Evidently PW does not need business. Also, most of their older stuff is not in runtime folders which is frustrating for newbies,. THIS IS IN NO WAY A BAD REFLECTION ON STEVE SHANKS!!! I doubt if he knw anything about it.

Hmmmm......I'll chime in here and say that I just dealt with Alan last week.  I had a small issue in regards to my subscription renewal.

He was more than helpful.  In fact, I sensed that he went out of his way to be of assistance to me.

So the experience listed above sounds jarring to me -- it's so totally 180% opposite from my own experience with Alan & with his version of customer service.  It seems very out of character: at least from what I've seen.

Steve has always been very helpful, too.

IIRC - Steve is the modeler, someone else (Lyrra?) does their texturing, and Alan handles the servers and related business matters.  Whether or not Alan is the owner I don't know.......I'd always been under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that Steve was the owner.

BTW -- based upon their products, and upon my personal experiences with them -- I endorse PoserWorld 110%.

I'll second (or third or fourth or fifth :)) a 110% endorsement of Poserworld - an incredible bargain, REAL world clothes, support for lots of different figures,  folks who take requests for things to be added.  Sorry you had a bad experience, drifterlee :sad:.  Definitely not something you'll hear about very often.  Poserworld is always given high ratings when people ask about it.

Like I said, it might not even have been the real Allen - it could have  been some teenager. Or I hit him on a very bad day - fight with the wife or something. But the reaction from whoever it was certainly did not fit my percieved 'crime".

It's not just you DL, there have been many complaints about Alan over the years, at least I ahve heard several.  It's kept me from getting a membership there beyond a small 3 month several years ago.  I didn't see enough there that I was interested in during that time to renew.

That said in looking over their site recently there are several nice things, but I really don't want a "membership", although I would buy a few single products if I could.

That said most members are happy with them so they are obviously doing good things.  If their stuff is to your taste and what yo are looking for go for it, can't hurt.

personally I think they should make most (or maybe even all) of their stuff available individually in their store for people who only want a few things from there but not enough to justify a subscription.

I believe that was the original intent behind the store on the site, but time and health problems interfeared with the adding the items to the database for sales. I have no idea where that project stands now.

I've been a member of Poserworld on and off for about 5 years now and always happy with there products...hopefully the next time I join it will be a lifetime membership:)

I've had 3 month memberships twice in the past and a year membership just lapsed about 2 months ago. Although I definitely got way more than I paid for, as I mentioned before, my modeling ability has improved to the point that I can now make a good deal of my own content, so I doubt if a ifetime membership would be worth the cost for me. But for those who don't model, and for beginners, I strongly recomment a PW membership (lifetime if you can afford it).

For a beginner, PW subscription is a high-octane jumpstart. In general, it's the best, most reliable source of "real stuff" I can find, and the subscriptions are all (I am Lifetime) incredible bargains.

One thing that sets PW apart is that they do custom stuff on request. It takes more than a single email, but if a member says, "How about [Apache clothes|dropped clothes|collars for the MDog]?" and a few others chime in, there's a good chance that Steve will go make some. Amazing.

Another is that PW supported a wide spectrum of meshes. Try to find G2 stuff in PoserPro's "We're DAZ but rilly naughty" store, much less DAZ3D itself. If a figure exists, chances are, Steve has done accessories for it, usually in the form of an items that supports multiple figures. RDNA is the only place comparable in breadth of coverage, but their offerings tend to be fickle. ("This week, everybody sell something for Koji 2.0!!") It's a bit like the difference between a department store and a boutique; there's room for both and thank Dog for both.

As for Alan -- He had a "rough patch," customer relations-wise, some years ago, but I've had to deal with him a couple of times in the last year, and that, it seems, "is in the past!"

The shortest subscription will pay for itself in 10+ CDs of downloads on the first weekend.

Well, I was officially banned for life by Alan several years ago. I ran a search on him and it seems he "owns" a lot of online businesses, including Poser World. See his website http://www.allenharkleroad.com/ He also owns GMP the web site business that hosts and manages Poserworld, and advertises as a "Christian business". My, my. What a hypocrite. Steve Shanks is listed at Poserworld only as a team member. I would be very wary of anyone who treats customers the way Harkleroad has - no matter what his excuse.

Drifterlee did you get ban from Poserworld or from another site he owns? I don't see anything wrong in a person owning several online business many people do that....or am I missing something here.

As I stated in my earlier post -- I can't say anything one way or the other about the experiences of others with PW.  I can only testify to my own experience with them -- and that's been a totally positive experience.  I don't have one negative thing to say about them.

To repeat: Alan in particular was very helpful to me just last week.  I never saw so much as a hint of anything 'untoward' coming from him.

Also there's this: as others have indicated, PW is a fabulous place for realistic clothing and sets -- as well as for multiple figure support.  And if you are heavy into SF and fantasy, then they have offerings along those lines, too.  But some of us very much want to see more realism offered in the Poser world (no pun intended -- of course ).  And that's probably a part of what attracts us so strongly to Poserworld.  I know that it does me.

Don't get me wrong -- I buy plenty of stuff elsewhere (lots of it right here at Rendo).  But Poserworld is a top-notch source -- a source that any Poser addict overlooks to their loss.

It happened three years ago when I was new to Poser and the Internet. Go back and read my earlier post in this thread. Alan banned me from Poserworld. Someone said they thought Steve Shanks owned it. He doesn't. I am not criticizing their products, just the way I was treated and like I said, it happened several years ago.
