Fygomatic, I am totally in LOVE with your Sophia Loren morph, that one is spot on :))

As a HUGE fan of Audrey Hepburn, I will anxiously await your final results on her once your talented fingers are finished with her :)

Even with FaceGen some faces just don't "take" with the photofit process.  Fortunately Lynda Carter was one that did and so this is probably my most successful effort to date.

OK.... I've been fiddling with FaceShop Pro since yesterday, having dropped everything else (for the benefit of Science.... lol). Amazingly enough I experienced only one crash in many hours of work! The results of my investigation... hmmm.... The program is very basic at this stage, but promising. Nowhere near the sophistication and options offered by Face Gen, however it has the advantage (over the latter) that it can create face morphs to be used in Poser with any of the Poser figures, including the millennium ones without having recourse to surgical operations and without having to spend days to get something usable. Question is... could the outcome be usable? Frankly, I don't know.... Here is an attempt on the head (hehehehe) of "the perfect male specimen", the Great Errol Flynn. First render on the left was done by applying the morph at a strength of 0.600, as the manual suggested and using the texture that FaceShop produced (which has nothing to do with the one you see on the window of your program at the end of the operation). The flaws are obvious, but the likeness achieved is stunning. Second render is the same as the first plus Agent Hair by 3Dream --even more realistic! And now the anti-climax.... The M3 head untextured, only with the morph applied. Likeness is gone! Which means perhaps that more than the morphs the texture is paramount if one is striving to achieve a good result. In my opinion the creators of this program should concentrate in finding a way to deliver usable textures. With this at hand and a good morphing basis --plus some dial fiddling-- FS could become a valuable tool. Let's hope we'll see some movement in this area soon... :)

Panos

Back in the Dark Ages of Poser, I remember seeing photos of celebrities mapped onto properly proportioned eggs. The result was recognizable. It seems to me that one reason celebrity morphs "work" is that for most of us, the celebrity's face is a carefully marketed commodity. In other words, it lacks the free form that real faces have. Hence the "unrecognizable" quality in papparazzi photos. We'd know Sandra Bullock's face if it was projected on a bust of Julius Caesar.

My first experience with the Face Room also confirmed your observation. I started from perfectly suitable photos of my less-than-stellar mug, and after hours of spinning, pulling, and tweaking, the resulting morph bore no more resemblance to my "mesh" than it did to Don's. Specifically, there was no way to match my mouth/chin/neck ratios (as I think P7 calls it), no way to achieve the "craggy" cheeks (high cheekbones, thin cheeks), and nothing that comes close to my Eli Wallach nose. But sure enough, the smeared, distorted texture looked just like me... since it was.

I would love to see a tool that harvested texture from photographs, and I think that, not a mini-Canoma that builds 3D models, is the key to celebrity "morphs." My favorite celebrity, MM, is wonderfully represented by Gwendolyn's "Star" (I hope I got that right). She got the Milton Greene marazipan skin perfect, and it's one of my favorite V3 items. But the bones are not quite right, and it still comes across as an impersonator.

M3 works as a moviestar mesh because his base look is that bland, characterless "handsomeness" of the Calvin Klein boy toy all grown up and ready to sell insurance -- Ken to V3's vacuously affluent, potentially bovine Barbie. As soon as you start trying to match faces with character and personality (Joel Macrae, Gary Cooper, Claude Rains, Yul Brynner, Clark Gable, David Niven, Sean Connery), things get iffy.

A very colorful statement that is probably dead on! LOL   M3 does have an androgynous look to him that does make him a good start to the Hollywood or model ideal of today.

But then again, I've also seen in FaceGen that the V4 face geometry (not quite as dense as the M3 figure's face) can also make a convincing male character, and I suspect the same would be true with this FaceShop software.  It might be interesting to use her face in conjunction with Vittorio's body morphs to see what comes of it.

Base textures can also be further enhanced with displacement maps to achieve the cragginess ... but there aren't any "make art" type buttons for that kind of work. 8-)

hehehe... Don't we all know that!!!!..........
However with a 1024x1024 messy texture like the one shown here, which is what FS produces, there isn't much chance to "make art"....

Not trying to hijack this thread, but thought I'd post this given the subject matter.

Anton (of Apollo fame) made a base morph available for others to tweak, the goal being to collect a bunch of close approximations and take the best from each. As such, this is still very much a work in progress.

Any guesses as to who this is supposed to be? For those that frequent the Apollo thread over at CP you'll be all too aware :).

You've never heard of Daniel Craig?! Don't tell me you haven't seen Casino Royal?!!! :)

If Leather_Guy and Panko similarly have no idea who this is I'll feel marginally less embarassed about the morph not being recognised. :P

Ummm - In all honesty, I have no familiarity with the actor, and couldn't have named him if he was standing in front of me.

ClawShrimp ( ) posted Mon, 30 April 2007 at 11:28 PM

Two out of three...my fragile ego is saved!

Regardless, any suggestions on how to improve the morph, as in to compare more favourably with the (apparently) largley unknown actor in the photographs, would be greatly appreciated. :)

Damn, I came too late to the thread!

I recognized him as Daniel Craig.  It tooka  moment, but the brow was a dead give away.

On the other hand, I do have the Casino Royal DVD sitting right next to me, so maybe it wasn't coincedence.

I attempted a Madonna back in the day.  I gave up after awhile. I think the "music Girl" morph in the market place is the closeet Ive seen.  I would love to see a younger 80's madonna morph.  I would also love to see the old Charlies angels done. We got some of the new ones done by 3d celebrity.  it would be cool to see Farrah, Kate, Jacklyn, and Cheryl.

Sorry, no Rufus Sewell unfortunatelly. Though I think I'll give him a try later. I have plans for a character like him in a future project.

I've been working on Jessica Biel look-alike. I think there's something there, though the texture does a lot of the trick...

Which is mainly the only thing I use the FaceShop (basic, nevertheless) -- for textures, which I later alter and brush-up in Photoshop. I'm pretty satisfied with the result...
