THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: all objects can be export ?

frackzdraf ( ) posted Mon, 28 May 2007 at 5:01 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 10:14 AM

hello,
 i'm thinking to buy bryce.
but can we export all meshes, all kind of objects in OBJ ?

thank you for your precious help

We've always been able to export terrain meshes, but with Bryce 6.1 you can now export a boolean conversion, that is if you take a positive and a negative and boolean them, you will get a 'convert' icon [c] on the icon column. You can then export this as an obj, dxf, etc.......
Hope this helps.

thank you for reply

so, in what you say, that thus applies to all the objects, not only to the imported ones ?
I want to say, also the native objects 'manufactured' in bryce with primitives ?
( my english isn't very good , i always need to repeat :blushing: )

thank you

Everything can be exported except metaball constructs. Trees are metaball constructs.

I read about the ability of boolean export -
does this work correctly ?
is there anybody who tested this successfully ?
can these objects re-imported into other 3d applications (incl. Poser) ?
are there any limitations in depth of boolean combinations ??

that would be interesting

thanks :)

Boolean export works well. I often export an object to import into other apps, specifically the Ivy Generator. The most complicated objects I've boolean exported has been my Japanese lanterns, arches, sundials, pillars, ....

I can assure you that I have tested this particular bit of Bryce-candy extensively. It works just fine!
My only gripe is that when you hit the [c] icon, the group keeps its original bounding box size. However, that is corrected when you re-import the item into Bryce.

LOL!  :-)

When the Ivy Generator is involved, I think it is okay to export to it.... afterall, one must import back into Bryce that cool ivy. ;-)

As I said earlier, using the [c] icon still leaves the original bounding boxes and that can cause problems. Better to export and then import BACK INTO Bryce which means you get a 'clean' object. This is wholly in keeping with the sanctity of the Blessed App.  ;-)

Sounds like a cover-up to me.
I think TheBryster has secretly been using heretical apps. but doesn't want to be condemned by his fellow cardinals as a heretic.

why would you export a blessed boolean construction out of Bryce in the 1st place, except...ahem...to use it in another program?..;) Inquiring minds want to know...I'll make room on the comfy chair...prepare the soft cushions...;)

Hehe, I do it from time to time now. That Japanese lantern (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1374731&member) was a Bryce 5 project, converted in Bryce 6. I've been wanting to make this into a freebie for a while, so I use it to make sure it behaves right before making it available.

But you're right.. it's handy to have it exportable for other apps to alter it. The only two other apps I use to enhance Bryce is in terms of exporting from, is the Ivy Generator and then CB Modeler Pro.

I really like that Ivy Generator.
