egaeus ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 8:13 AM

If anyone wants a great book on what the figures and symbols of the Tarot represent, I highly recommend The Complete Idiot's Guide to Tarot and Fortune-Telling.

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 11:25 AM

Morning all! I've received a bitmap version of the background and will put it into layers for those of you who want a Photoshop version. I'll remove the text from the appropriate areas also so that it will be blank. Egaeus ... you know, I think I might get that book, because that's about how I'm feeling right now Dee

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 11:25 AM

OH ... PS ... I like the Morpheus font, it's very cool Dee

dolly ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 11:27 AM

so what font are we going with dee

trevor3000 ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 11:28 AM

thanks Treveler! if anyone wants info on tarot, with some good images of the cards, some info about them and doesn't want to buy a book, see if this helps: http://www.learntarot.com/cards.htm

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 11:36 AM

I think we'll go with that Morpheus font ... nikitacreed has offered to add the fonts to the cards for those who don't have it on their computer. Dee

dolly ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 11:38 AM

ok il have one as i dont have that font cheers

shadowcat ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 11:39 AM

Seeing as how I'm supposed to coordinate with picnic I need to know what s/he? is doing, I'm using michael and have him posed but not much else. Or does anyone really care if the fool & the hanged man match? Last question is what style should be used for him (or do I choose?)

dolly ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 11:43 AM

I dont think it realy matters as we will all bring our own styles to the deck

shadowcat ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 11:51 AM

Just wanted to show what the #4 Face could look like with a pic in the center. Keep in mind it's not feathered, etc. and I will not be using this one, though I am tempted as she IS one of my favorites. This is 800X600. Verdie of Dreamspinner

dolly ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 12:06 PM

its almost like a mirror i think it will look very good

Dreamspinner ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 12:32 PM

Trav, LOVE what you have made for this project!!! Totally great looking goodies and really like those textures already on them!! Many thanks, Eric! I like the Morpheus Font a lot!! Going to go get it now! Gee, Dee maybe I should just leave the Keeper the way that she is if she looks good enough. Verdie

This is one that I fell in love with a while back by Bubba and just popped it into the center to see how a different color would look like. I wish I were as good as Bubba is!!! Hope he doesn't mind this. Verdie of Dreamspinner

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 12:58 PM

Traveler, I'm in the process of working on the layered version, and will pass it on when it's done. It will be in Photoshop 6 format, for those who are interested. I also tried to bring it into Painter, but for some reason Painter isn't pulling in the labels for the card number and name. Now I'm DL'ing Paint Shop Pro to see if I can get a layered version in that format as well. Dee

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 1:03 PM

I'm getting excited, seeing these examples of the card backs with pics posted in the middle. Woooooo hooooo! And thanks, Trav, for your props! I haven't seen them yet but will DL them when I finish the backgrounds. I suspect they will be up to your usual marvelous standard, though 8-) Dee

Dreamspinner ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 1:12 PM

Dee, I use PaintShop Pro6 to do my work in. LOL Verdie

Dreamspinner ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 1:30 PM

Traveler every time I go up to download those great props the down load times out on me. We do have problems from time to time with our phone lines her in Dallas; yes it's a 56k modem. I did manage to get the coin, but can't get the rest of the goodies. Help Please! Verdie of Dreamspinner drmspinner@earthlink.net

Lorraine ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 1:58 PM

Is there a place to download the background yet?

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 2:00 PM

Lorraine, coming right up. So far I've saved them in Photoshop 6 format (where you can choose between crystal ball, black, or white backgrounds), and in TIF and BMP formats of each background type. I'm about to zip them up and pass them over to Traveler so he can upload them to the Morph World site. Stay tuned. 8-) Denise

file_173043.jpg

Well heres a look at mine so far i dont know if i`l use this or do a different one its still got a long way to go oh and i shrunk it a bit just to put it up here what do you think denise

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 2:24 PM

Dolly, it looks wonderful ... however, there is one small point. Last night, amidst all the confusion of which aspect ratio we were going with, I think it was finally decided that we would go with the wider version because it would offer more room to put the picture in. (This is the wider version that Verdie has been posting her pics into in message numbers 68, 70, and 75 above). So when I prepared the Photoshop versions, I used that aspect ratio ... the spheres in your border are now back to their round original shape as a result, and I think it looks better overall because the aspects aren't disproportional. I have uploaded the PSD, BMP and TIF files to Traveler, and hopefully they will be posted soon. These files are the final size (600 wide by 800 high). Now I'm about to make the larger double-sized version in JPG format (1200 x 1600) - double-sized versions in PSD, BMP, and TIF were WAY too big for download. 8-) Dee

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 2:27 PM

I LOVE that tower, and the hands coming down are absolutely powerful!!! You have done a marvelous job with the feel of the card. I'm sure others will agree. 8-)

dolly ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 2:29 PM

so you think i should keep this design and just do it on the bigger card if so thanks and i will

DCArt ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 2:33 PM

Yes, the design is WONDERFUL!!!! You have done an outstanding job with it. Well done. 8-)

dolly ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 2:34 PM

oh i forgot to mention the reason i got such a great feel for this card was due to lorraine as i was aving a bit of trouble with it so she helped me to understand the card thankyou lorraine

I had some trouble d/l the props earlier as well -- I think it's server traffic. Morpheus, huh? I remember when its creator first shared it on alt.binaries.fonts in '94, I think, in response to a quest for a Manson-style font. And here I thought I'd get to have this cool font that no one else had.... :( Well, at least no one else has 3D versions of it... Nyah nyah. :P Seriously (and somewhat unrelated), would there be any interest in these? I've got them in 3DS format, but just Poser's silverpict reflection map on them. I can zip and post -- can anyone do some decent (possibly celtic) textures for them?

Lorraine ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2001 at 2:44 PM

Dolly that is a great tower!!!! I told you, your creative vision is perfect for this project...I bet the other artists will find this project to be rewarding even if they have no prior knowledge of tarot, once you get the basics tarot provides a rich source of inspiration....Again Dolly your concept of the tower is great!!!... my contribution was deminimus really....

I really LOVE what you have done with the Tower Dolly and really like the added sparkles on this. You are really doing a BEAUTIFUL job on this!! Sorry for the misunderstanding yesterday. I think you will like the wider version better as it makes your border look so much better. Verdie

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Mon, 21 May 2001 at 2:18 PM

This is a cool idea and looks like a good start - one point though: Playing card decks grew out of the Tarot. In fact, the standard playing card deck IS a Tarot deck with the major arcana removed and the "suits" edited SLIGHTLY. Beware of anyone who plays poker with the FULL deck... ;-)

Lyrra ( ) posted Mon, 21 May 2001 at 7:22 PM

Well whomever is tracking these things - I call dibs on the three of swords. :) Okay? :) Great work on the background - wow. This is going to be very interesting :) Lyrra
