Thanks Miss Marlene, if you don't mind I will. Jay this one is easy, I write in them all the time! I never noticed the unusual beauty before though. I love you perspective of the world. Oh, I posted and got thrown to the top of a new page and there was this wonderful window! Lovely view

I believe this is a Kingbird, a sort of flycatcher.  The lighting belies the identity but it sure looked like a Kingbird in the tree. This was a less than ideal shot but I truly like the pose caught.

Here is a blowup of the same bird in a tree. I cannot see the tail...and my bird book is packed away until the rooms are repainted, such inconveniences to deal with! : )

Firestuffer, anyone, is this a kingbird? That would be, an Eastern Kingbird, not the other one.

Firesnuffer ( ) posted Tue, 10 July 2007 at 11:53 PM

Tom, that definately looks like an Eastern Kingbird to me! Good shots!

firestuffer out.

They are both great, but the one in flight is extraordinary! He is at the bottom of a dive getting ready to backwing, put on the brakes, as it were, to grab something in flight for lunch. only him and the wide blue yonder! BJ

mamabobbijo ( ) posted Wed, 11 July 2007 at 3:34 PM

There's a legend about that moss in those trees Kort, but I have forgotten it. The slate is wonderful Jay, it presents so many rich colours and textures. I'd love to see it used. BJ

Yep, great slate Jay! :) Behind that tree is the foundation of a house built by the founder of the enclave of Casadaga in FL. Just a few foundations are visible, and the front stairs. It is a little eerie to be out in the middle of nowhere and have this front stoop just leading into undergrowth. There is also a well hole in there, and some other overgrown buildings, but I was not brave enough to venture near them. ;']

Me too. What a moody place that must be. I like the bird in flight, Tom anmd that window pic is lovely, James.

So is this pic as boring as I think it is? You can be honest, lol.

not boring no.....

Firesnuffer ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2007 at 5:20 PM

I wouldn't say boring at all, Marlene, I could imagine sitting there enjoying the breeze. While sitting there though I might be thinking that someone forgot to put the lighthouse on that little point of land, LOL.

Margana ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2007 at 5:47 PM

A lighthouse would have made the shot.... I don't know, I like the pic but it always seemed off to me. Like it was missing something. I guess it was a lighthouse, lol.

Thanx for the opinions... :^)

mamabobbijo ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2007 at 6:39 PM

Very cool cave Jay. I like the headland Marlene, it looks rather unfinished, rather like it's waiting for the ending, or beginning to be written.

TomDart ( ) posted Thu, 12 July 2007 at 9:08 PM

Marlene, as much as I truly appreciate and enjou awjay's textures(fine work), I sometimes like to simply relax with a nice view.  Your image is that...a very nice view and unusual for what I normally see.  I like it.  Nothing boring there from my point of view.

Editorial for the day:

Now, an odd ball bit of text but this is "post anything".   There is a product called webkinzs and people here are clamoring for it.  What is this?  Besides a super smart marketing idea, this product and acceptance prove one thing to me:  I am so grateful that Renderosity is here and creativity is still alive with imagination and thought!

Webkinzs is simply a basic stuffed animal toy. Why the scurry to buy it? There is a web
site for kids to visit and play with their stuffed animal while playing on the website!
Tells me, someone realized the lack of imagination of kids fed web and games and x-boxes etc. who must be fed precreated scenes and precreated imagination to keep going and find a reason not to play in the yard and in the neighborhood...outside seems off limits to many kids today and they get more blubber on them each day and loose the joy of imagination created inside each mind.

So, this stuffed animal comes with nothing...nothing but a play website and that is totally enough to make folks get in the vans aqnd SUVs and head to the store!   Thank goodness for creativity alive and I can see the real stuff each day here on this website.  Thanks very much for that!

That is the Editorial of TomDart for July 12, 2007.  Publishers are not responsible for comments of editorials.

Nice shots Jay! Rocky and rather dangerous looking. Pirate treasure in the cave? I think BJ got it right Marlene. It is a 'nice' shot, but doesn't seem quite finished. I would have liked a bit more room on the right, or perhaps like to see the a bit more of the foreground cliff? As for the lighthouse, I think you could add one in and post it in the new photo manip category! Here is a closer look at that stoop. You can see pipes in the background.

Around back in the underbrush, I found this pit. Looks like it might have been a well? It is starting to fill with sand but the brick walls were visible. Perhaps there is buried treasure below? In infrared.

That place reminds me of the Blair Witch...lol. Cool shots, Kortaloo.

What a view on that shot, Jay. I got dizzy just looking at it. I like the way the land looks so hazy in the distance.

Thanks Tom and BJ, and if I had a lighthouse I would do that, Kort. But since I don't, I'd have to use stock, which means.... the 2D gallery. But don't worry, I'll upload something to the photomanip category soon enough. ;^)

I had the chance to finally try out the teleconverter, bringing the 300mm Sigma to 420mm.  The problem was distance... 250 to 300 yards(add about 1/10 if you think meters), hazy air and bright sky behind the subject.

This is two Osprey chick in their huge nest.  The nest is about 80 feet above the ground with a perfect view of the nearby lake and inlet.  Sky was bright and normal exposure was 1/1200 sec at f/5.6.  This would leave the nest as a total silhoutte!  I moved the shutter to 1/320 sec for the shots shown.

The tower and nest are about 1/4th of the viewfinder look. Even 420mm will not do it at such distance.  Still, I am pleased with the results considering conditions. Next time, I plan to use a remote shutter release to avoid any shake.  Enjoy!  I sure did, just seeing the birds in action.

Here one of the pair of adults approaches the nest with a fish in talons. The large bird has a wingspan of 4.5 to 5 feet.  We saw it approaching with the fish in hand, coming from the direction of the lake.  The beautiful bird circled high above the nest several times then came in to feed the chicks.

TomDart ( ) posted Sat, 14 July 2007 at 8:05 PM

I see "her" saying to the chicks, "Eat your dinner. It doesn't get any fresher."

This is a view of the lake, to the left of the electric wire tower supporting the nest.   There is a small inlet below and slightly behind the tower.

After leaving the chick with a fresh fish, 5 minutes passed and the bird came again from the lake with fish in hand. This time, she circled the nest from quite high above as the chicks peeped loudly.  The osprey then flew directly over us into a dead tree in woods behind. Perhaps this bird was eating its own dinner, an almost impossible task if in the nest.

There is the osprey event.  We really enjoyed watching these magnificient and beautiful birds. This was the third visit to the sight today and it finally paid off, even if still quite far away.    TomD'Art.

Ok, with a 50mm macro and the shot not quite at 1:1, this size is pushing things a bit. Still, I like it ok.    Of course, dragonfly wings while the critter perched on the van radio antenna.

TomDart ( ) posted Sun, 15 July 2007 at 6:14 PM

The work it took to find this classic was amazing...10 cedar boards, sanded those, cut to width..and the classic stick emerged. I am pleased to have recognized it for what it is.

Wow! some wonderful shots! I really like the unfinished quality of Marlene's headland, perhaps it appeals to the wordsmith in me. There are so many great shots since I logged on last. I do love the surrounds of the missing house Kort. The clouds are stunning! The shot of the cliff is terriffic Jay as is the beach, but I think we can all agree that there is a new Maestro, did you SEE that stick?LOL! Sorry I had to.
