Great new look, can't read the headlines in the forums as white letters on light grey background ist standard in ergonomics :((

Hmmmmm...It's like, the old 99 version of this site, RDNA, techno, and gradients, all mixed together into one. Interesting...

Aside from the absence of overt sex, the site's beginning to resemble Renderotica.  I really don't like Renderotica.

I actually like it so far :) It is a bit of an adjustment, but it's a nice looking design. I particularly like the drop down menus with everything grouped by similarity instead of a long list to the side.

I think I'd like to eventually find a way to change the text box to a light gray or pale blue because the white with the dark surrounding it is a bit bright for me. But that's the only real issue for me at this present time though.  But maybe that will be changing too.

Give them time to finish uploading the changes :)

Reverse type is MUCH HARDER to read.  Ask any web design professional or ergonomics text.

Please restore to black on white/light background.

White type is very hard on the eyes.

And what's up with this 8-point/10-point microscopic font size?  Please make the default 12-point font like it used to be.

On the side it fades to a lightish grey and it had white text for a bit. Now it has dark text.

funny.. I find it's the other way round myself.. a few mins reading black on white from a screen and my eyes are killing me. but white on black/dark? read that for hours...

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2007 at 1:41 PM

I actually like it with the white text better. The other way was always hard on my eyes and there was a pile of complaints at the time of the last change. They seemed to have listened (after a couple of years).

Gareee ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2007 at 1:44 PM

Another site that looks better at 150% in IE7, on a 1600x1200 desktop res monitor.

Otherwise the text is all very small.

Actually, most design and graphics professionals (me including) will tell you that it's just the opposite, light text on a dark background is much easier on the eyes for long term use - on a computer. Which is why you'll see many graphics pro's change their windows and interfaces to dark background, dark toolbars etc.

Printed word is a whole different story, but we're talking about websites here.

It does take little getting used to, light text on a dark background, if you don't use it a lot.

I think most websites are still designed for 1024x768 resolution. By the width of the main layout, I'd say that's the case for this one too. At 1200x1600 resolution, it's to be expected to look small.

With a wide screen monitor, this sucks. So much wasted space on each side.

Yeah. the text could be a little larger. Guess that don't take into consideration those that now meed a magnifyer to read what's here.

Yah these were my favorite forums to read because they were the only ones still white background and black text.  I can't read it now.  Incidentally I also shopped here the most since I was always here reading the forums anyway.

crossing my fingers hoping I can set it back to black text on white background in my own prefs.

Maybe you pass this on to publishers?

Maybe we should have been readung books with black pages and white text al these years.

Small white text on darb bg is a majopr eye strain for me.

the CSS forum is where ppl have been sharing this on this site since the site overhaul last year...

SYNTRIFID ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2007 at 3:59 PM

Black on white, white on black (or blue) whatever, I personally couldn't care less. As long as there is a contrast so it's readable.  -  Now something like bright yellow text on white background, now THAT's unforgivable :tongue2:

Granted a little larger font would be appreciated but the color scheme makes little difference to me.

jjroland ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2007 at 4:24 PM

I have a pretty darn big wide screen moniter and while there is wasted space at the sides it doesn't really seem extreme to me.

Just the horrendous background thats bothering me personally.  Wish they would have switched off and made the side bar background color the main background color instead.

I like the new look too, especially compared to what DAZ did with their site. As for widescreen viewing, you really just have to reduce your browser window. Very few, if any websites are designed for resolutions like 1920x1080 (which I use), so I just adjust my window and it looks fine.

So how do I get settings back to black text on a light background ?

Yes, slighter larger fonts would be nice.

And where'e the "logout" button?  I can't seem to find it.

fiontar ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2007 at 5:27 PM

I like the new design personally.

It would be great if they offered alternate page styles. That's one of the advantages of using style sheets for web page formating, alternative color schemes can be easily offered.

For those who absolutely can't stand the white text on dark background, Firefox allows you to turn the page style off and view the site in a very basic format. Not sure if IE offers such an option. Won't look any where near as pretty, but very functional.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Mon, 16 July 2007 at 5:28 PM

I don't mind it. Better than I thought it would be after the last time. I doesn't bother my eyes like at Daz. I use my old computer and monitor for the net, so it fits fine on my screen but I agree that something should be done for widescreen users.

I did have to check twice when I first looked in. I thought I was at a different site. LOL.

Personally, I love it ... but ... I feel for those who have a hard time reading white on dark.  (My personal preference.)  If we all could choose colorschemes like back in the beginning of Rendo.  Choose our profile colors ... FROM the home page, not just galleries and forums, then everyone could have a color scheme that would fit thier individual visual needs.  I've been visually impaired all my life and nothing puts me off from a web site than not being able to read it from the default schene they have.   This is for you drifterlee ~ you've always been a good member here.

I appreciate all the hard work and the new scheme, but the high contrast text on a dark background is less than kind on the eyes after a few minutes reading.
Feel free to disparage my opinion. After all, I actually thought the DAZ site redesign was beautiful.
Duh.
