Was it "Dead Calm"??? Came out in 1989... Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill & Billy Zane...Fits the 3 on a boat bit, was utterly forgettable for me though...

No. I saw Dead Calm and that wasn't it. There was no psycho aboard the boat. Just 3 people who went out sailing on a small sail boat and got caught in a storm. I didn't finish watching it because I fell asleep, lol
Nicole Kidman wasn't in this movie. I believe the "known" name was that of a male.
And it wasn't "Ordinary People" either because that doesn't involve a small boat in a torential storm.

I tried that, and I tried other sites that had names of movies and that didn't help me either.

No. If it's the movie I just found on the net, that was made in 2006 and has a bunch of Sweedish actors that I've never heard of before and the plot is about sex, not about a boat lost at sea in a storm.
This movie was made in the mid 1980's...or maybe the mid 1990's and was definitely about 3 people on a boat lost at sea during a bad storm.

Don't you hate it when a sucky movie plays in your head and you just want to take a lamp or a bottle and end it?
No? Ok. Well, it's just me then.

How about "Lost"

No, it wasn't "The Perfect Storm". I saw that and it was a good movie, but it had way too many people on the boat.
"Lost!" I looked at that before. If the boat capsized in the movie I'm thinking of, I didn't see that part. I'll have to look around for a better review/synopsis of the movie because it's not really telling me that much.
For some reason I seem to think there was something about water, a type of weather, a storm or something along that nature for the title.
I have been coming that imdb.com site and looking at all US movies made between 1980 and the mid 1990s. I'm up to 1992 so far. I thought the name would jump out at me, but it doesn't seem to be, unless I haven't come to it yet, or maybe it wasn't made in the USA. I'll keep up the search because it's been driving me crazy for months trying to remember the name of it. LOL

What studio made it? You can look it up that way.
Was it a comedy? Action/adventure? Campy/Drama? Horror, Sci-Fi/Fantasy? Etc.
And you cant name any of the actors? lol.
Could it have been a Jaws type of movie? Sounds like a low budget film. I know movies pretty well and would need more info than 3 people in boat. :)
I don't know the studio :( And I think it was "Adventure" or maybe "Drama". it wasn't SciFi or Comedy for sure.

Open water, "boring"!!!!
no way, fantastic movie, it's pretty obvious you're not a diver, so can't relate to the story!! From a divers perspective this was a riveting movie, any diver could see themselves in that situation which made it all the more terrifying!!

Oh! I can certainly see your POV on it, if I wasn't a diver I would prolly have found it boring too, I had my doubts before seeing it but in the end I thoroughly enjoyed it, prolly because I could relate to it having drifted 300 metres away from a dive boat in the Florida keys once!!!
Very scary let me tell ya!!!

Indeed, no doubt having experienced such would bring the subject a bit closer to home.
I guess it all boils down to one's own presonal interests and such. - Like I know there are hords of people who consider "2001 A Space Oddysey" boring. (and I can understand how they could ) though it's still one of my personal all time favs.

Yes I can stormchaser, i also learned a valuable lesson that day!
I hadn't long qualified as a diver and I got caught in an underwater current but hadn't realized it, plus with being in awe of what I was seeing made me not take notice of what was happening around me, very scary when I surfaced and found my boat a long long way away!!!!
I couldn't swim back to it either because it had got too rough on the surface and underneath the current was too strong to swim against so they had to send a line out, that day there was 4 of us rescued that way!!
Many dives since with no other incidents like it thankfully!!

Deep Rising wouldn't be it. Full of cheesy effects from top to bottom, but generally hilarious. It also has a cast count higher than three... er, when it starts, anyway! I'll check with the movie geek when he comes home tomorrow night. He might have an idea which one this is, or at least more titles for consideration. If it was one of the massively low-budget horror flicks, it may have changed titles half a dozen times, so it may be harder to find.

LOL, nope, not that one either. I was actually wondering when someone would suggest that one. Kevin Costner loves his on screen time.Every movie that he directs and stars in is over 3 hours long! And they're all boring as heck. But no, he wasn't in the movie that I'm thinking of.

Steamboat Willie?
It has to be; the effects are totally unrealistic and it's in black and white.

If I can think of it I'll let you know, but I'm baffled at the moment to what it is. Can you think of anything else which might give us a clue?
LOL, sorry!
I can't think of anything else that is distinctive. All I really recall is the basic plot about going out sailing and getting caught in a bad storm. Much of what I saw took place in near darkness because of the storm. I know there were 3 people, one a woman, all on the deck of the boat in the front pointy part of the boat. They had themselves tied to things so they didn't get washed overboard because of the waves (IE: pails of water being thrown at them). There was lots of rain and wind, and you could see mountainous waves behind them. The boats movements were not congruent with the waves, nor was the amount of water they were being splashed with, which is why I say the waves were projected on a screen behind the boat.

I do believe that one guy was wearing a dark rain-type jacket, the kind with the hood.
I went through all of the movies between 1980 and 1995 and didn't recognize the name. I am dyslexic so it's possible I might have missed it so I'm going to try looking through them again today and tomorrow.

No, not Poseidon Adventure.
Unfortunately I don't remember watching it in the last year or so, but I don't recall when or even what channel.

To be perfectly honest, I never really liked The African Queen, or Mutiny on the Bounty. Come to think of it most boat pics are pretty crap really, aren't they?
Master and Commander ain't bad. Not something I'd want to watch every day, but there you go.

I do like "Master & Commander", but I'd love to see the three-person re-make.
"They have forty-four guns to our twenty-eight! They're out of our class!"

Acadia, you must face reality: you are quite possibly the only person in the entire universe who has watched even a nanosecond of this film you mention. If the studio gets wind of this, you'll be president, treasurer and secretary of the appreciation society. Look on the bright side: the secretary's tasks aren't likely to be too onerous. Better still, drop this line of enquiry.

LOL, I would think you were right except I posted on another forum too and someone actually remembers the movie I'm talking about, only she can't remember the name of it either, LOL

BTW, different movies but - has anyone ever realized the similarities between Alien and Reservoir Dogs?

Sorry for the OT, but this has been driving me crazy for a few months now and I'm no closer to an answer, so I thought I'd try here.
I am trying to remember the name of a movie.
I know it was in the theaters at one point. It had one or two well known actors in it (sorry, can't remember who though).
I think it was created in the mid to late 1980's (or maybe mid 90's) because I remember looking at the television guide and noticing the year and thinking "wow, we've come so far in cinematography since then" or "talk about low budget" or something like that.
I believe the plot was about 3 people who go out sailing and get caught in a storm.
What I remember most about it was the really, really bad water effects. The 3 people were on the boat in the front, holding on for dear life. The sail boat was rocking and rolling because of the huge waves which you could see in the background. It was obvious the waves were being projected on a screen behind the boat. There was lots of rain and occasionally you would see what amounted to a pail of water being thrown from the side on to one of the people to mimic a wave spash.
I thought it was called "Hurricane" or something like that, but whenever I look that up I get a bunch of hits for some Boxer guy.
Any clues?
