It is quite beautiful Jay. There are many incredible stories of ships going down in the lakes, Tom. The lake effect is when a small weather front moves across all that open water it picks up tons of water and being winter it reenters the lower atmosphere as snow. If the front is moving fast it can be dropped as far east as Mass. At least one Nor'easter a year here is from the lakes. BJ

That last shot is seriously weird, Kort. But I like it all the more for just that reason!!

Here, my coworker Richard is making palladium white gold. Much white gold is made white by the addition of nickel but some folks have skin sensitivities to nickel. Europe requires white gold to meet certain "anti sensitivity" requirements. The USA does not but we sell white gold for the most part with no nickel problems, either the palladium white alloy mix or special proprietary gold alloys from a few manufacturers.
This is pure yellow gold being melted with a palladium metal mix. The palladium is a platinum group metal and melts at a high temperature. We have no special furnaces and in the small shop use a torch and tricks of the trade to make good gold alloys for jewelry casting and other uses.
Perhaps the picture will be interesting. The shot was taken with manual focus to show the flames and heat. Room lights were on but eye protection was needed. 1/60sec, f/10, ISO 200.
Earlier this summer we had a couple of swarms of bees at work, this one settled on a large stone finial on top of a gatepost. Luckily I had my camera to hand.

I'm allergic to bees, keep back! Great shot thought. ;'] And neat image there Tom, thanks for edifying me.

Bees have never really bothered me, in my experience they tend to be fairly docile and don't often sting. Wasps on the other hand I absolutely hate...
Last year I was cutting down the tall grass and weeds that were growing around the lake at work with a big petrol brush-cutter and wham I stood on a wasps nest. I didn't realise until I looked down and saw tham crawling all over my legs. Then they started to sting... I was lucky I was wearing a thick jacket I only actually got stung eight times although one got behind my visor and got me close to my eye. Ever since then I've been extremely careful to say the least.

As I work as a gardener seeing this many catterpillars chomping away on a plant I really have to fight the urge to try and squish them. Although I'm sure they will turn into something beautiful.

Here's something I got a shot of last week, I know it looks a bit wonky but I assure you it's perfectly sharp -it's just how it is. But can anyone guess what it is...?

This rest stop had marvelous hedges and areas to wander and feel comfortable. I really do not recall where on the trip we found this little island of niceness.
We have not been to Britain but plan to next year. This somehow a few years ago made me think England...likely a generalization but a nice thought.
Tom, that shot (and it's a good one too!) )could have been taken almost anywhere in England, except the bit where I live. The landscape around my little patch of England is flat, extremely flat. In fact the nearest thing we get to hills are when the moles are busy in the fields.

LMAO! What a funny sign! Guess you never know what an 'unpropped' body is capable of. ;^)
My bet is on views, too. :^)
