Great materials Mike, and I see that you have sneaked the Mustang in there as well. Think about it Mike, from next month when Vue4 comes out you can have seaweed on the shoreline as well ;) Looking at that picture of yours reminds me; I hope they have sorted out the Kentia for Vue4, because at the moment it looks as if someone has got to it with a machete first! Speaking of materials I had someone try to tell me from the Terragen Yahoo group (off list of course) that materials are better in Terragen than Vue. For me there is no comparison, but it just shows that peoples styles gravitate towards there own different ideas of something that is good in one thing, but not the other. And before anyone thinks that I'm having a dig at Terragen, I'm sure Varian (sorry Varian ;) )can back me up, as he knows how much I am a fan of Terragen...although with Vue4's atmospheres, and OpenGL which means easier positioning when using DEM files, I may be using it less from next month ;) Cheers

"I hope they have sorted out the Kentia for Vue4, because at the moment it looks as if someone has got to it with a machete first!" .......... Yeah, you got THAT right! I have to admit to being somewhat disappointed with the Kentia. I've managed to "grow" a few good ones, but it takes some time, sometimes. One of my favorite plants in the world is a Chinese Palm, which the Kentia reminds me of, and I would LOVE to have a better and more "reliable" Kentia for Vue. Thanks for the compliments all, but I'm afraid to say I don't know if I'll be able to upload any materials-- it seems that some of what I had thought was mine actually is partially based on color maps from Varian and bloodsong's "whole mountain" materials, in the form of complex mixes with native Vue nmaterials... I don't know if they would work for someone who doesn't already have all the same stuff installed in the same folders..and of course there is the law of, "Thou shalt not redistribute"....
Mike, if it's a MAT file, it will work for anyone else, too. Sometimes, if the material has been Mixed several levels, some elements seem to get lost when transferred to someone else. But for the most part, the MAT file contains the whole works in itself. Check with Bloodsong for the "whole mountain" stuff. As for me, if you used color maps I've made, more poser to ya! Color is color. All I ask is that folks don't redistribute the color map files themselves. But used in a material, totally fine with me. They're meant to be used. :) I have never seen Cheers post to any Terragen list. :) You were probably thinking of that other guy, Martin. Martin is a big TG fan indeed. :D
As a major Coco Palm fan, Vue has the best in any software around. But Jeez! They've even made them MORE REALISTIC based upon the new Vue 4 image at the E-On website. I'm so continually blown away by the increasing high quality renders and effects that are possible, and WILL BE POSSIBLE, that... (It BOGGLES MY MIND!!!)...
lol! you're gonna steal my mats, which are vue mats to begin with, anyway? ;) naw, we need more whole mountain variants. that kinda looks like a mud bank with some grass...? then sand and grass higher up. i like it. the only thing you need to worry about with mat files being compatible, is if any of them use images. like if you slap on a woodgrain texture, or use a trans map or bump map you painted in something else. then you need to zip those up with the mat file.
A very nice pic! I'm a Brycer with serious intentions to go for Vue4, but have a couple of questions about Vue: I notice that most Vue3 pics like the one here looks grainy. Is that an artifact due to a lower AA setting or to a high noise frequency in the textures? Is there a way in Vue to smooth that noise? Nandus
Thanks nandus :) I think you will really like Vue 4. We are all just panting for it ;). We really love Vue 3...even with it's few drawbacks it's a wonderful tool (and you can't beat those plants!). I used to use Bryce myself before I got Vue 2 (then version 3) and it's been on the shelf collecting dust ever since. You can achieve a more painterly look with Vue that you just can't get with Bryce. And although I am fascinated with what others have done with Bryce, for me it was too hard to learn whereas Vue was a snap. The interface is so simple and the material editor a breeze! Of course when I saw the plants I knew I had to have it :) I have always given the credit for my entry into Vue 2 solely because of Guitta Bertaud's wonderful floral images. When I saw those, I was hooked! Laurie
Hi Nandus, and welcome. One other thing that can cause a Vue picture to look grainy, as in this one of Mike's, is a high JPEG compression. Funnily enough, it may have been Mike who made me aware of this, some time ago. Cheers

Thanks again for the info. It looks like Vue4 will be a bargain for $199! There is a complete silence about the new Bryce5 and unless Corel puts a lot of weight on it they will loose market share to e-on. I feel that I came to a dead end after some years with Bryce so I'll go to Vue4 as soon it is released. If you want to see some of my pics, look under Nandus in Bryce, Poser and other galleries in 3DCommune. Congratulations to all of you for the beautiful pics in Vue's gallery. Nandus
