Subject: Morph creation

Hey guys, I've got a question here that to me seems rather simplistic...that's why I think there is more to it than meets the eye. I've been using Lightwave since it's 'birth' and was thinking about making some morphs for the standard P4 Female. Is it just a case of loading the obj file into Lightwave and then moving points around to get the morph figure I'm looking for and then saving the 'morphed' object and loading that into poser as a morph target? To me it all sounds entirely TOO easy, so that's why I ask. Thanks in advance for the help and suggestions...(hint, hint) S

It is best to run them through the uvmapper, first. Making morphs is not rocket science, simply, tedious and time consuming.

As someone who makes morphs on a regular basis I have no idea what you're talking about. UVmapper is for mapping and grouping not morph creation. If you're given to doing morphs in a 3D editor, all you need is a 3D modeler which imports .OBJ files and exports your edited versions in the same vertex order. Most apps that support .OBJ respect the vertex order. The other step to this process is running the finished .OBJ file through a text editor and deleting every line which doesn't start with 'v '. This 'morph squishing' reduces file size and protects copyright.

Making morphs in Lightwave is entirely that easy. Import your object use the magnet and other point push type of tools, like reszie etc, and export the new object. As Duane said, be careful not to delete or add points, and also only move the points that you want to change, be careful not to accidently move the entire object, don't use cut and paste or other tools which may change the point order. If you want to morph using a part exported from Poser, make sure that the 'as morph target' option is checked, and the 'weld' option is not, (the other options are irrelevant for morphs) And as Duane said, if you intend to distribute the morph you can delete the lines which don't start with 'v'. You can also do this in lightwave. Select all the polygons, and use the 'remove polygons' command lower-case k. and then export your model as a vertex only object. Regards- Lemurtek

I have to say after using Amorphium and Ray Dream, Lightwave is hands-down the easiest program I've ever used to make morphs with. Since it doesn't scale, rotate or reposition any of the geometry on import or export it makes the process very simple. Just load the obj, modify, export the obj and you're done.

You can delete the lines that don't start with ONLY a 'v' ! :) I mean, there are lines that start 'vt' for example :P
