And in my final hours - I would cling rather to the tattooed hand of kindness - than the unblemished hand of hate...
Vkirchner, your avitar constantly reminds me of that day when I was actually there in the thick of things and lost 16 of my friends and colleagues and a 49 year old female young widow cousin with 3 very young children of her own who worked for the Red Cross. The children were consequently adopted after the tragedy by the older brothers and sisters of the widow. Although an honor, It is to me, a constant reminder every time I see it. Is there someway I can ask you not to use that avitar and choose another? I would be much abliged! I hope I don’t seem insensitive. Not anymore insensitive as it is to me. I can understand that you may want to remind everyone of that horrific day. But I remember it much too well and clear, I was there.

VKirchner: While I agree with Quest it is your avatar. However, may I suggest that instead using your current av as a memorial to those tragic events, you use a strap line under your posts, in much the same way as I use them to promote Bryce.....
I have absolutely no wish to cause offense however so please feel free to ignore me -
Quest: I had no idea you were so close to the 911 events. You have my condolences for your lost friends and colleages.
Finally, there is one thing that is faster than light.

Vkirchner, please forgive my abruptness. Things just haven’t been going all that right for me lately and I’ve been under a fair amount of duress and it must be wearing thin on my nerves. You needn’t change it on account of my momentary pang of hypersensitivity.
Unfortunately Bryster, yes, I was that close. I was diagnosed with posttraumatic syndrome for a while as a result and suffered some respiratory discomfort for several months from inhaling the falling ash and smoke. It’s been awhile but every now and then I get an occasional flashback and that’s followed by a sense of loss. I can still feel the intense heat from that blast on my face and can still see people falling from the building.

How about some Murphy's rules for computers/software?
You know that all computers have a Murphy event thrower chip. It senses when its the best time to stick the knife in.
Something will die inside a computer right when you need that machine for a deadline or the machine will need some time consuming maintenance real close to a deadline.
Important files are always marked for messy and painful deaths but it won't happen till you need those files in a hurry.
Harmless virii will turn into Ebola when you want to show off.
Software that you worked on and seemed to be perfect will turn against you when your boss or anyone higher up the chain sees it.
The one tweak that moves the render from art to Art is the one that will crash the machine and you did not save the scene file and don't remember what you did exactly.
Turbosquid comes out with a better version of a model that you have been fighting with for months and the client finds out about it.
Good luck Quest and I hope you get better.**

Thank goodness, I don't!
Oh wait that does not sound good.
Law 1, I have had some experiance with.
Nothing can kill the day like finding out that your video card is dead when you have to write code for a deadline. Against a friend's better judgement I went downtown and bought a new video card. Figured that the time spent fussing with the old card to find out its dead, I could be downtown and back. Then I tried to remove the old one but I forgot about the clips so I could not remove the old card. Of course the old card after getting some attention went back to work. So I blew about 3+ hours fussing with this and had to take the new card back. The store I bought it from does not have a money back policy, you get a gift card with the amount and they make you wrestle a wild animal. Was hoping to get the cheetah since they are wimps but I got the leopard. The only good thing, I got a nice sandwich out of my stupid trip downtown.
This is also why I keep out of the case and do not fuss with the innards unless necessary.
Seven: I hear that. I'm under standing orders NEVER to open my pc case on pain of death.........from my son! (Who built the thing and is on call to fix it should anything go wrong)

My computer is sitting here without either of its side covers on. The hard drives have one screw holding them in. The sound card has been in my last 3 computers and the video card is about 3 years old. And it is bullet proof. Never misses a beat.
You do realise the above statement has almost certainly condemned me to a high cost system failure under the don't talk too soon clause.

Some rapping on the preserved flesh of trees might be in order.
Since I am a gamer, I can only keep stuff around for so long.
My video card used to be top of the line is now ok.
Did not keep too many parts from the previous machine, the high end videocard died and I got a much slower videocard from a friend. Ended up giving the machine away. Its so slow now, snails laugh at it.
Already I hear the siren call of 3 ghz quadcores and a new motherboard and a directx 10 compliant videocard. Unfortunately the new videocards use more power than the old ones. May need to add a fusion generator too.
