Subject: Why am I getting less comments on my uploads?

dhama ( ) posted Mon, 17 September 2007 at 11:18 AM · edited Sun, 06 October 2024 at 2:21 PM

Is it because they are not so good?

It would be nice if people can offer some advice at least, if they are going to look at them anyway.

I've noticed that some art from other artists get many comments and others which in my opinion were better get little at all.

StaceyG ( ) posted Mon, 17 September 2007 at 11:35 AM

Maybe you should post to the Critique Forum and Gallery if you want honest opinions/advice?

That would be my suggestion to you.

I will try that, thanks. But it doesn't really answer my question completely.

Is it the amount of friends you have that govern how many comments one gets or how many times you comment on others work?

StaceyG ( ) posted Mon, 17 September 2007 at 12:01 PM

There is no true answer for your "question" IMO.  It could be any number of reasons but by joining up with the Critique Forum group you will get some honest productive comments about your gallery images.

Ok, I have started one now. Thanks for the reply. 😄

geoegress ( ) posted Mon, 17 September 2007 at 6:10 PM

Stacey nailed it right on the head. There is no one true answer. Subject, some friends, quality rep all have various degrees on comment and view counts.

Basicly people want to see what THEY want to see, not what we want to show them  (or what the admins disneyfications want  either).

When I post a pinup I have often gotten 500 hits in a day with 50 or more comments. But my space pics or scenes might get 50 in total if I'm lucky.

Exactly.

Long ago, I posted a B&W photographic image of an engine block in the process of being rebuilt. The thumbnail was an animated GIF that flashed "cast iron penis" on a black background. Wound up getting an insane number of hits in the first few days.

It was pretty funny.

Just uploade a piccy and it's right next to a nudity piccy in the thumbs. I had 10 views on mine while the other one got 60. So I gues it's true, if you want to be seen, take yer clothes off.

ROFL...I came to find out what this was about and ended up laughing out loud..thanks for that...

but on subject...ya... I am an animal person, sometimes fractals, scenery, and once in a great while I do something sort of close to a pin up...well actually really TWO in all the years I have been here, and then only tasteful ones...and of course they got the most hits... So I just do what PLEASES me or helps me express something I am feeling in regards to my health syndromes.... and my core of freinds comment as they have time.

One thing that has astounded me, was my finally being brave and posting art that reflects my health problems, the pain I live with, and seeing how MANY folks responded with understanding, empathy and sympathy! Many folks in our community do actually deal with a lot of health problems too! I am "not alone" and then feel better! It has fed my heart and soul!

I also, just as a suggestion, do my best to comment on the other person's art, who has commented on mine, especially if I don't know them... it broadens my horizons and I end up with more freinds... and so it goes.  :)

But mainly... IMHO - in my HUMBLE opinion - art IS to express oneself first, as that is when we do our best work.

Best Wishes for your experience here! :)

I've seen the same complaint hundreds of times in the last 10 years. somebody should warn new 3D users about the 5 stages of their reaction to how their renders are received: 1. overconfidence 2. self-doubt 3. denial 4. anger 5. acceptance if the clue faerie would just clue the newbies in to this inevitable cycle, it would save alotta grief IMVHO.

Don't fault Stacey for braying the party line, but the reality is that there is, in fact a "true answer". That answer is, "yes". Your popularity here will definitely influence your views.

But, it also depends on who you're popular with - if you're in with the 14-15 year-old male crowd, you've got a leg up right there.
And, of course, if you're showing tits...well... there you go. That's what made this digital "art" site what it is.
Do that and pat yourself on the back for a job well-done.

Or, make something serious, introspective - a social statement...and be prepared to not be noticed as much as the guy one page over who had Poser for a week, bought all the latest crap from here, and pressed CTRL+R.

Yes, even here, at this "Art Community", it's all about what you do show, not about what you don't..

Oh, maybe buy stuff from the biggie sellers here and post pics of your purchases, and tell them to tell all their other customers to check out your images and leave a comment. That should work, too....

@ Miss Nancy, who are you calling a newbie LOL. If you had two links at Renderosity, one saying nudity entrance and one saying no nudity, the supressive nature of society in many cultures would use the nudity link. If Landscape art was a supressive subject in any given society, then this thread would not be here. So maybe in future i'll add in a nude subject to my landscapes.
Everyone here at Rendersity likes to get feedback for their art, and i'm no exception. :)

@ deadwarrior, sharp and straight to the point LOL!

Yesterday I posted a pic that got only 9 views in 3 hours- :(
Worst viewing coun/timet I ever had.
I keep looking at it and it just isn't that bad of a picture, so go figure.

I took it down of course

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Tue, 25 September 2007 at 4:54 PM

well, yeah, if they had a "nudity" link here, I would click on it when nobody was looking. or maybe not. after 10 years of poser nudity, I pretty much quit looking at the poser nudie pix. now I'm mostly browsing the c6pro nudie pix, which are few and far between.

I have a lot of comments on my images and i am not doing Pin Up's. Take the time and comment others Artwork back and you will see how many nice people you can meet this way here.
Not just  sit arround and cry , "Why others never comment me"! This is the wrong way.
I can tell you i am commenting a lot of artwork every day here because i love to see others Art.
But i stopped commenting images from people who never comment back. Why should i take the time for her/his gallerie evrey day, write some friendly personal words under his work when he never take the time to take a look in my Gallerie just one or two times, after i commented his work every day for weeks.?

Like in the real live. When you are just sitting at home, you will never be able to meet new friends.

Just my two cents.

You certainly have a way with words don't you.......
Does my initial post suggest I sit around and cry "why others never comment on me"? Infact I have collected quite a few friends, and I comment on most art that catches my eye. Not as many as i'd like to since that would mean sitting here and doing nothing but comment.

Why should you take the time to look at others work if they don't comment on yours? well I do this all the time. i don't comment on other peoples work just to get comments back, whats the point in that?

Quite frankly, I find your reply quite rude, but maybe thats just who you are, and I'm not going to sit around crying about that either.
Next time, please think about what you are going to say first and then think about saying it in a friendlier manner, i'm surprised you have any friends with that kind of attitude.

Just my 2 cents back!

TheAnimaGemini ( ) posted Fri, 28 September 2007 at 9:11 PM

dhama if i hurt you so please excuse me. Maybe my words sounds rude but my language is not english and it is sometimes very difficult to explain for me what i think.
But true is, many, many people here at Renderocity are having the problem with others image who has a lot of comments.
And when i read words like " tits=hits" i get really mad, because it is not true.
I comment also images who catch my eyes. But i really stopped commenting artists who never, never gives any feedback. Not even a PM with thank you. This is rude for me.
I have many artists on my fav list  who never comment back, but sometimes i have a nice PM in my sitebox from them. And this is okay for me.
Hope you could understand what i mean. :)
And my two cents back to you. Why i have many friends here, is because i am really a nice girl :)

No problem Ladonna, I understand. :)
Would be nice if we could have comments, hits or otherwise on a basis because the work is good and not because of how many friends one has, or how good one can render a lifelike nude without making it look pornographic. And on that subject, if one painted a texture rather than using a photgraph of a real person on a poser model, then that to me would be acceptable. (The works of RGUS for intance are very artistic and beautiful and deserve all the positive comments this artists gets)
Sometimes that little comment you get makes you feel good about what you are producing.

And i agree with RGUS. He is a fantasti artist. He put Pin Up to a higher level.
So i wish you a very creative weekend!!

And just to say, I never place a comment on an image unless it deserves it. I will never comment an image just because the person is in my friends list or if they have commented on my work. :)

in the context of a society of sophisticated art connoisseurs with advanced education in art theory and practice, an image of a nude woman can be non- pornographic. but in the context of the demographic surfing a poser gallery, any nude image will be degraded by said context, regardless of the intent of the image creator IMVHO.

I wonder how many hits an image would get that didn't actually contain any nudity. Yet when uploaded had the nudity flag checked and thus got the default nudity advisory thumb.

See, I struggle with this all the time.  I barely have time to do my own artwork, and I sometimes go through and leave comments, but a lot of the time, I just can't go back and thank all those that leave me comments.  I guess it's rude as you say.  Is it ok to thank everyone who commented on my images with each new image I upload?  That's about all I can do these days between spending time with my family, doing my job, finding time for my own art, and viewing others.

Dragontales
You misunderstand me a little. :)
I had a few artist on my fav list which artwork i supported for months. Every day. I leaved every day a nice comment on their artwork. Month for month.
I received never any feedback. Not one comment on my artworks and not even a short PM with thank you for supporting me. Nothing.
So tell me, is this rude and arrogant?? For me yes.
I dont wait for comments back when i comment a image.
But when i support somebody's work  for month , i think one feedback costs not so much time.
I have a lot of artists who just comment back one or twice every one or two months. Thats okay for me.
Not everybody has the time to write comments for hours. I am lucky and i can do this during my work. ( I work for my self) .
But ignore me completely is something i really call rude and arrogant.

I can see your point.  I fear I may fall into that category though.  Again for the same reasons I posted above.  If you check my image posts, you can see that I only post about one image a month, sometimes 2.  :)  You can see how little time I have for anything else.  I agree with what you said and will try to make a better effort, especially for those that support me image after image.

I hardly ever find the time to just browse the galleries even though I love doing it.
I also still on a dial up connection here so it is very time consuming to browse and wait for the images to load.
I try to always go and view the gallery of the person making a comment  though and I think that this should be ok even if not leaving comments - this is what I mean :
when exhibiting in the 'real world' the comments people make are not even heard by the artist most of the time unless someone approaches the artist to make a comment..... this quite often will only happen on the 'opening night' of the exhibition and then for the remainder of the exhibition the artist can only hope that people can appreciate the effort and work that goes into the images.

Having said this, I love to get comments on my work and when I do get them I appreciate them all the more as I know that I am getting the comment because people 'want' to comment and nothing to do with how many friends I have - I am a hermit and communicating does not come easily to me so I do not make friends very easily.... I think sometimes that I simply do not really know how shrug

On the tits=hits note - does anyone remember the 'cow' picture .... golly so long ago now that I am straining my brain and still not coming up with the answer of who created it - I thought it was really funny at the time but cannot for the life of me remember who it was :(

Have a nice day everyone - I'm going to browse your galleries now ;)
