Subject: Texturing smart props

NemesisT ( ) posted Sun, 23 September 2007 at 4:20 AM · edited Mon, 30 December 2024 at 2:11 PM

Hi,

I just made a smart prop (my first, modelled in hex ) but I can't seem to texture it in poser.
If I add a texture as normal it will still turn out grey. Any idea what I
might have missed ?

How exactly do you mean, "add a texture as normal"?  What steps are you taking exactly?

Before bringing the prop into Poser, did you UV map it in Hexagon? Whitout the UV infomratino, then textures won't be applied correctly to your objects.

I uv mapped it in hex and textured the map
then I go into the material room in poser and add the texture
as an image map as I would normally do. But yet it
comes up grey.

Oh and it did show up before I added a parent to it and saved it as a prop

and what you would normally do is......... Have you tried importing the OBJ and simply saving it as a prop directly first, and then load the prop from the library?

When you UVMapped it in Hex, did you create the material names first? When you try to apply your map in Poser, do you have the choice between several texture domains?

Maybe try "normals forward" in the material room?

Have you used posers group editor feature to assign material groups to the various sections of your prop?

That would be my first guess... if your needing more detailed instructions on how this is done let me know and I'll see if I can't put together a real short tutorial on the subject.

Do you have the item it is smart propped in the scene? If not that might be the problem.
