Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
*I think I am most addicted to hair. I even have a seperate hair runtime, arghhhh!
*Hair, yes, especially long hair! Lots and lots of lush flowing hair. When WAS the last time I had a haircut?? I think I cancelled the appointment because HMann came out with a new one.
My name is SoCalRoberta and I am a Poser Addict. Interventioneers stay away!
Quote - it's called "debtors' prison" nowadays. quite comfortable, actually. 3 meals per day, free room-and-board, laundry, exercise yard, tattoos et al. no, seriously, it can be addictive. some folks may actually spend $$,$$$ per year on this stuff.
I cant afford to be one of them. LOL
Should I write to these vendors and BEG them to start making crappy stuff so I won't be tempted?
Quote - SSAfam1, at this rate you'll have more shoes than Imelda Marcos !!
A gal can never have too many shoes! :)

Oh yes...hair and shoes are what I'm on the hunt for these days. :(
Have you seen that thread?
"It is good to see ourselves as
others see us. Try as we may, we are never
able to know ourselves fully as we
are, especially the evil side of us.
This we can do only if we are not
angry with our critics but will take in good
heart whatever they might have to
say." - Ghandi

Which wouldn't be half as many shoes as my ex wife. The former Mrs Therapy had a ludicrous amount of footwear.

P.S. however, I just spent about $50 on dresses. For her, of course.
I am so glad you added that last sentence.

Making the active decision to stick fonly with PosetteV3 and P4DukeM3 has saved me from all these financially embarassing choices. I DO want to buy Pappy's prayer shawl though and adapt it to Dorkl.

My Poser guys have Doc Martens, biker boots, running shoes, canvas sneakers and oxfords. What more does a guy need?

You are so right infinity10!!! What we need is for one of our talented merchants to become interested in visual kei and start making some of that stuff for our boys ;P

*Let's start with the absolute basics for any well dressed man, Neiman Marcus.
Once he has all the basics he needs all of these
That reminds me, I have to make more shoes... and convert my V3 Victorian shoe freebie to V4... :D
And I have couple of Apollo outfits in the pipeline :D

Quote - how about an outfit like this one... I think it's a versache.
LOL does the male model come with the shoes???
I envy you guys. You're a shoe modeller so when you want a new pair, you can just model it. You can even make your own clothes. People like 3Dream and Lisbeth can make hair when they want. OutofTouch can buy an outfit and use its template to make a textures. You all can do for yourselves.
hehehe, I didn't even notice the ears till you said somehting
Someone will have to make us a morph for them ;)
A face and body morph would be nice too :D
I may have to get into making body morphs and textures.... drool

You realize, all the money you spend on Poser content could pay for heavy modeling and texturing tools.
I can do textures, not as well as a merchant, but still usable stuff.
Modeling? I lack the skill, talent and patience for it.
It's actually more cost effective for me to buy the item rather than spend hours trying to make something.
Mindvision's G2 Casual Suit is pretty close to the Versace style

You guys who are having a hard time with modelling, give Wings a try. I'm getting to grips with it - nothing worth showing yet, though - and it's dead easy to learn the basics.

In time I'll be able to do more than buy content. I've read threads...even asked about modelling and it seems a HUGE undertaking. Responses overwhelmed me. I knew very little about the tools they were discribing. I envy...not because free modellers aren't around, but because I wish to have 5 yrs behind me and much more knowledge of Poser. I'm still learning and only know the basics . If I tried anything now, I'd be putting the cart before the horse.
I'm a quick study, but I do tend to follow the letter of the law so if you say, "Go to Z" I go to Z then someone else comes in with a deviation that is much shorter. Very literal, but in time, I will know more. A few years from now, I'll know little shortcuts. :) I just need to be patient. Hey...we've all had to pay our dues. Buying gives back to the commuity. Even the professionals bought before they modelled.
Sam---I have wings downloaded but it seems no one can point me to a tutorial on how to make clothing. All the stuff I've come across were little alien models or cartoon characters. I even asked in the Wings forum and still couldn't get a tut link.

I haven't even thought about making clothes yet. Well, I've thought about it but not started anything. At the moment I'm working on simpler, static props. I've made a couple of fantasy style buildings, a few space helmets and I'm finishing off a guitar amp head.
At least it's going to give you a feel for planning things out and working in a modelling environment. The on site tutorials are worth following because they all use principles you can apply to other models.
Coppula eam se non posit acceptera jocularum.
On the Wings site there's a tut on how to model a face and although you get aquainted with certain tools, which will come in handy when modelling clothes, it's still not helpful for me. You don't know if this tool for one is ONLY for what you're making at the time, or if it can be applied to other things. Now if I'm following one for clothing, I know they're used for clothing. In my Practical Poser book, I read about modelling in Lightwave and while I do grasp the procedure is the same with any modeller, I wasn't able to fully learn. The first time something is presented to me I need two things 1) to have step by step instructions and 2)to be able to do it as I'm reading. Words alone won't do. The modelling was done in Lightwave and so I woul've needed lightwave to be able to follow along.
I don't think there is such a thing as a tutorial on how to model clothes. Modelling clothes fir Poser figures, in just about any 3D modeller is a fairly advanced process.
Knowing how to make them comes out of experience modelling smaller pieces... then once a person is familiar with the tools in the application and shapes and objects those tools make, that can be put together into making a piece of clothing or something else organic.
In other words, there really is no 'straight path' to modelling something as complex.
You can't go wrong with going through tutorials on how to model simpler things, and how to model organic shapes.. Even if they're not clothes. When making clothes, you'll end up using most of the tools that a modelling application has.
Start with modelling in general. How to make clothes will sort of fall into place once your modelling skills get to a certain level. We all started with making squares and circles and simple things first :)

If you want to see how things are made, in general terms, a good source of info is the tutorials and "the making of" section on 3D total:
http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/tutorialsmax.asp
This particular one has a good description of clothes and accessories modelling:
