Subject: Does anyone not use Poser 7..?

Dynamo ( ) posted Wed, 12 December 2007 at 9:59 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 10:38 AM

I am in a  weird mood lately, I have P7 but i find I really have come to hate the library system they use and the waste of space interface.  I find my eye drawn more to D|S, anyone else int hat group?  Part of me wants to sue it for the expense of purchase but it's really just annoying between crashes and the library system...

that's the way I feel about my copy of P6

Oh well, at least there is a choice, and choice is always good.

I know of several who don't use Poser at all, me I am not one of them. I personally don't like D|S library structure. I like Poser's due to the ease of how easy it is to add custom runtimes and find things.

I fully agree, as the OGL disply is horriffic on P3-7 It's strange that I've had the D|s since the beta, and I've just now been using it over the Archaic system that poser still uses! I've also quit smoking {5 months cold turkey! The only way to go!) So at that time Poser's interface wasn't helping matters so I picked up D/S, and rarely do I go back!

Actually, D/S is much easier because it's much like an explorer styled system....However, To each thier own as they say, spice of life, and all that! ;^)

I have poser 6 but the only thing I do is install to it..I use DS exclusively now and point it to posers runtime so I can access it.
I also just bought a daz plugin called finder..and it kicks butt.   ;)
I don't lose anything anymore.

I have both poser7 and daz. Started out with daz and still prefer it to poser. Daz is more stable for me.
I have custom runtimes set up and have both my daz and poser run off the same ones.
For example I have a  V4 runtime, A3 runtime, props runtime, environment runtime, ect..... Very easy to manage files for me that way.
The only exceptions are the products that come with DAZ specific content. They go into the default daz content folder.

I use Poser mostly. I don't like the DS libraries and I don't really find that Poser wastes any space (since you can change it).

Madbat ( ) posted Sat, 15 December 2007 at 2:34 PM

I use Daz exclusively, at least till I can afford Poser. I did have access to Poser5 for a while, and found the interface a bit clunky to work with compared to DS, but Poser does have features that would be nice to have, like the setup room first, and the cloth room. I wonder if anyone actually used the hair or face rooms?

Daz does have the annoying tendancy to go resource crazy at strange times though. I've noticed some scenes will take up 99% of my cpu, and half of my system memory. I can load the same scene at a different time and all is normal, so DS still has a few bugs to work out.

Ah yes, Poser 5. I agree. That version annoyed the heck out of me for some reason. Made me see red and I am sure my neighbors thought I had Tourettes Syndrome when ever I tried using it,lol.  Never did have version 6 though. Wonder what they are gonna have in the upcoming version thats new?  It will have to be something pretty exciting for me to consider upgrading.

Yes!
I still use D/S, I occasionally dip a toe in to P5...and wander back to D/S. I now have some of Dr Geeps tutes so I will see if that makes it easier.....gearing up the big toe.....maybe!

Madbat ( ) posted Sun, 16 December 2007 at 11:16 PM

Well, I'll need to soak up the cost of Poser somehow as i need the setup room for rigging some stuff I plan to make. Gah, then that means adding morphs....arg.

IO4 ( ) posted Sun, 16 December 2007 at 11:45 PM

I've got Poser 5 - hate it:) Could never get to grips with it. D|S seems so simple to use in comparison. I only use D|S in conjunction with Bryce 6.1

The only things I hated about P5 were the manipulation controls, turning off IK all the time, and the wierd way you access scene figures and props. But in terms of functionality, It blew up far less often than DS 1.8 does on me now.

Hi there, Happy to see I'm not alone using only D/S. I began with Poser (I've got P5, P6 and P7), but for the last 3 months I don't remember having ran Poser only once. In my experience, D/S is faster and easer to use (especially with lighting) ; the first pictures posted in my gallery were made twice (first with Poser 7, then with D/S) ; since I always got better results with D/S, I didn't post any of my Poser versions. But maybe it's just me ;-) I've become a real fan of D/S now, and don't intend to go back, even if and when Poser 8 is available.

I'll have to admit the only thing I'll ever use poer for is in making rigged characters, props and clothing. At the moment I have no way of doing that. Although, There is a program from Daz called Greenbrair that does rigging, for $99 or something like that. What I'm waiting for is the release of DS 2, I'd like to see if it goes from being a free program to a purchased one.

I Hardly ever use poser. I bought poser 7 but (I have a Mac G5) It was terrible. It was so slow and unresponive it was unusable. I returned it and they gave me a full refund.I re-installed poser 6. I use poser only for Data. If I make something in a modeling program, I export it to poser instead of DAZ because the textures and shaders load into poser much better. Then I use the item in Daz.

Star4mation ( ) posted Sun, 30 December 2007 at 9:57 AM

I dont use Poser at all. Never have done, most likely never will! (I did get Poser5 when it was free, but as yet I've not bothered to download it)
I've used Daz/Studio since it was in beta and I'm more than happy with it.
(I must check out the Finder plugin though, since I can never find what I'm looking for half the time!!!) LOL

If it ain't free, I can't afford it.

Poser 7 on the Mac is pretty much made for the new Intel Mac's .. The older ones made it unusable. I had it on a G4 but it was messed up but it works MUCH better on my new mac pro.

Does anyone have suggestions on recommended system specs for Poser 7 to run effectively?

I wonder if dual processor makes a difference or not?
I never entirely trust the manufacturers specs, especially when it comes to 3d related apps. I found the recommended specs are often minimum.. (maybe I'm fussy too, but that's another story)

Have P7 and never use it. Been running a DS, Bryce  6.1 and PS 7.1 triad for a year now and for the most part it is workable.
