Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
There was a thread here that mentioned Mat pose won't work on a props unless there's a figure in the scene. That implies that Mat poses can be created for props, even though poses are usually just for figures. I don't know if Hoaglands Mat Pose Creator will work for props.

Yes it does make MAT poses for props. It even has some entrys for some of the props in Poser. (see screenshot).
Yes it will work with V4 and P6 - and works with P7.
Link above.
Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.
Wow incredibly fast replys!!! Thanks!
Vince it was your tutorial that I tried. I know your method works - works fine for a friend and many others. For some wierd reason it wont work for me. I can't imagine what I am doing wrong. I change the two lines (6>4.01) and the materialcollection word. Just will not work when I go to apply > nothing happens.
Reason I want to make mat poses for the prop is because there is more than one. If I had just one than I would simply save the prop with that one and not be worried.
For this particular prop there will always be a figure in the scene when using it, so if that is a hold back, it is easily overcome.
Thanks very much for your replies.

Is there a reason why displacement maps don't appear as an option is the program's configuration? (Could it possibly be so old that displacement maps weren't included?)

JJ - Was it for a prop? If so, have you looked at the internal name of the prop and put it instead of mtlcollection? It doesn't work the same for a prop or a figure.
Also when applying a MAT pose to a prop, it MUST have a figure too in the scene as you said, but this figure HAS to be loaded first in the scene.
It's not necessary using the exact prop name within the matpose.
Just use the expression actor $CURRENT
Now you can apply the MATPose to the currently selected prop.
It's better than using the exact name of the prop, because that may
change, when loading more than one of those props into a scene.
Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
Thanks msg24_7! Very useful info!! ^^
It doesn't change the problem of prop not taking MAT pose when no figure in scene, but it fixes the prop name problem :)
I'll update my tut with that info ^^

Earlier in this thread it was mentioned, that a figure needs to be in the
scene prior to loading the prop.
At least in Poser 7 it doesn't matter at what time you add a figure to the scene.

Replied to jjroland's site IM on the 11th.
The program was designed for use with Poser 4 and can create Poser 5 style MAT poses. It does not include any advanced material features such as procedural nodes, displacement, ray-traced reflections, etc.
Yes, the program can create MAT poses for props, but due to Poser's feature/ glitch, MAT poses will only work on PARENTED props. MAT poses do not work on non-parented props.

I think, that's not quite correct.
Using "actor $CURRENT" instead of the prop name within the MATpose file, a MATpose can
be applied to a prop, as long as a figure is present and the prop is currently selected.
No need for the prop to be parentend to anything.
This works at least for Poser 5 and up. I don't know about Poser 4 or PP.

I sent a site mail to him too. But Im curious if anyone here knows if that product will create mat poses for props as well as figures. If it will create mat poses for V4 and if it will work in P6.
It says in the readme that it will create files for P6 but are they just as good as any created in P6?
I'm sure it is a great product, I just want to know before purchasing if it will do specifically what I want it to do.
I tried the tutorial and for some reason it just wont work for me and I don't have the time to mess with the files for hours.
Thanks in advance!
