Subject: Dynamic Cloth to Conforming??

Glen ( ) posted Thu, 03 January 2008 at 6:42 PM · edited Sat, 31 August 2024 at 7:22 AM

First things first, allow me to apologize if this has already come up, I looked really hard, honest!

I'm not very good with the whole dynamic thing, I'm really awful with numbers in just about every way and can't get my head around the idea of it at all and likely never will, so I'd like to compromise with some clothes I have.

I can't remember exactly what these are called without loading up Poser, but I have a V3 lingerie set, sheer black from the free stuff section, only it's dynamic and I want to use it without dynamicing it... Oh I'm confused already!! I'd like to do the same with some others too but have no idea what to do. Most of them are completely skin-hugging, so I don't really see the point in having them dynamic in the first place.

Anyone have any ideas at all, please??

Many thanks, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

I believe the set you mean is by SVDL
So far as I know, there's no easy way to convert dynamic clothing into conforming.  You'd probably need a modeller or something to set the grouping up and then you'd need to rig it all in Poser.

Of course if I'm wrong, someone will be along in a minute to correct me but I'm pretty sure I'm right :)

...Oh, drat!
Well, no offence, but I sincerely hope you're wrong lol! It is indeed by SVDL, I remember now. I'm not going to the immense trouble of getting another 3D prog to work on this thing, it's a mess of a system. I got poser 6 practically when it came out, use it all the time and have only just, somehow, managed to get it to run almost smoothly.

Thankyou for such a quick reply!

Quote - skin-hugging, so I don't really see the point in having them dynamic in the first place.

A nice thing about dynamic clothing is that you can easily use clothing on various figures. Here are some tutorials on how to use dynamic clothing in the cloth room:

http://www.philc.net/CC_sampleVideo.htm

Here are some links to some great FREE dynamic clothing:

It's also possible to make conforming clothing into dynamic clothing:

And it's possible to take a conforming outfit and work with it in the cloth room so that parts of it act dynamic.

Attached Link: Thread from DAZ about much the same thing

Found a thread over at DAZ asking pretty much the same question - Looks like bad news I'm afraid.  Mind you, as Acadia said - dynamic clothing isn't *that* hard to use once you get the hang of it

I highly recomend the philc link Acadia mentioned (http://www.philc.net/CC_sampleVideo.htm). It was what I used to finally learn to use the cloth room. Before that I avoided dynamic clothing like the plague. Now I find myself converting all kids of conforming clothes to dynamic. What I did was open poser and then play the video and pause after each step to actually do the step in poser.  And as far are using the dynamic controls, I downloaded Philc's clothroom presets and for the most part they are the only settings I use.  Good Luck.

I believe can be done in poser with the grouping tool and the setup room, but it's a bit of a pain and I haven't done it before myself.

1.With the grouping tool create new groups for each body part  (chest, hip, etc). The hard part is getting them to match up properly with your figure's body parts.

2.Go into the setup room and load up V4 or whatever figure you want to use the dress for. This, in the setup room, will load the SKELETON of the figure, not the whole figure itself. What you've just done it given this piece of clothing the same "bones" as your figure, thus allowing it to conform. If your groups are named the same as the various v4 parts, once you go back to the pose room your clothing should now move like the figure.

How would you handle a dress and leg bones? make the dress from the waist down all in the "hip"group. while in the setup room select and delete the leg and toe bones. In face you may want to delete whatever bones you don't need for a dress (head, fingers, hands).

So... That's how I'd do it in theory, though I've never tried it out. I may be missing something, like editing the joints and such. If someone else knows please correct me.

The strong do as they can while the weak do as they must.

There is a program by Philc called obj2cr2, which can convert dynamic clothes to conforming clothes, and I think that wardrobe wizard 2 can also convert dynamic to conforming.  And there are two programs in the MP called : autogroup editor and quickconform, which can also convert objects (which dynamic cloths in fact are) to conforming clothes without any help from a modelling program and saving you the tedious task, to group the clothes by hand.
PS. I think that wardrobe wizard can also make groups for skirting but I haven't tried that yet.
Please ask if you need some more advice.

Best regards,

Bopperthijs

Wow, seems like some hard ole graft! I'm very interested in those progs though, I'll go and take a look now! The main issue here with dynamic is one that can't be resolved by tutorials or learning to use the cloth room. My pc is extremely ill equipped to use it, it took me about an hour to do one frame last time I tried, I thus never make animations or alike. Maybe I'm just impatient, but given that i tried to create a simple render last night and it locked up my system, I don't wanna give it a reason or excuse to be a steaming heap, if you get my meaning...

Many thanks all for your help, I may well be asking for more of it very soon!
