Using BlackEyes on Victoria 4

Frankly, I don't really care for the way the eyes are designed for V4.  I personally don't like how they come "out of the box" (the eye whites seem to glow a strange color) and I just think there are just too many material zones.  However, this isn't a discussion on whether or not V4 has good or bad eyes ... it's a tutorial for using Blackhearted's BlackEyes on Victoria 4.

This product is available at Renderosity here: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=18033

I've always liked this product and it's not expensive.

Poser Tutorial:

  1. Load Victoria 4 into the scene and using the hierarchy editor hide both the right and left eyes.

  2. In your BlackEyes prop directory, load the Right Vicky3 eye replacement (Vicky3_R).

  3. For the "Black Eyes R" Parameters change the following settings:

Scale 118%
xTran -0.115
yTran 5.784
zTran 0.207

  1. In the "Black Eyes R" Properties, click on "Set Parent" and select Victoria's rEye - you've now smart-propped the eye and it will move with the morphform dials.

  2. You can now save the "Black Eyes R" prop back into the Props folder.  Use a new name such as V4_Right.  When is asks to save as a Smart Prop, you click "yes".

  3. In your BlackEyes prop directory, load the Left Vicky eye replacement (Vicky3_L).

  4. For the "Black Eyes L" Parameters change the following settings:

Scale 118%
xTran 0.115
yTran 5.784
zTran 0.207

  1. In the "Black Eyes L" Properties, click on "Set Parent" and select Victoria's lEye - you've now smart-propped the eye and it will move with the morphform dials.

  2. You can now save the "Black Eyes L" prop back into the Props folder.  Use a new name such as V4_Left.  When is asks to save as a Smart Prop, you click "yes".

  3. You're all done and now have some new eyes to play with.  You may wish to touch up the lighting of the eyes in the material room.

I'm hoping that Blackhearted is still working on a BlackEyes 3.0 and I look forward to it!

Happy Rendering!

I've included a render of the BlackEyes converted and I've made no material room adjustments.  I leave that for those with better skill :)  The skin textures are basic V4.1 and for this exercise I removed all the nodework - it's just too much, especially the glowing blinn lighting.

I know Blackhearted has a lot of fans here and wanted to share :)

I too like Blackhearted's eyes (I recently bought BH characters because of the eyes) and dislike V4's eyes. Thank you very much for the tutorial. (I'm also glad that Scare Bear made it back into the store and hence to my runtime.)

this is great...thanks :)
I use Blackeyes on all my characters. usually just tweak them until they get to the right location, but never parented them...will give it a try.

Aha!! Thank you!

The YTran seems way off are you sure about this? Not doubting the master on this but it sends the eye off to nowhere land if I use 5.784.

Netherworks ( ) posted Thu, 10 January 2008 at 2:17 PM

Dave-So,

Yeah, parenting them allows them to use those eye side-side dials and so forth :)

Marque,

At the default I'm showing the Vicky 3 eye prop to come in with a yTran of 5.686, so that should only be a difference of -0.098.

@ Marque and Netherworks:

What is your Poser Display Units set too?  I might be mistaking, but would this effect the Tran measurements?

Netherworks ( ) posted Thu, 10 January 2008 at 2:31 PM

Ah, wise you are Thromm.  I have mine set to "Feet" which I think is the default in English Poser 7.  Never messed with the setting.

Blackeyes is a great product, and I couldn't agree more with you on disliking V4's eyes, yet I've not thought of using them together liek this.  Great idea, and great walkthrough.  Thank you!

Hey that was it! I didn't have it set to anything and when I set it to feet it worked. Thank you for the tutorial, I love the blackeyes and this is too cool to be able to use it.
Thanks again,
Marque

Thanks for taking time to work up this tutorial.

I always used BlackEyes when I was trying to get somewhere with EJ, V3 and Miki. But when V4 came out, I figured out her system and I consider it tremendous.

I think I'll try BlackEyes on V4 and post a side by side with the V4 version.

Ooh! Another lil' gem stashed away in the forum... thank you! Those eyes look fantastic compared to V4's.

By the way, methinks the link on your Bio page needs updating - it still points to www.thenetherworks.com.
