How to do my head in, with one post.

So, do we have to do 2 renders, one about New and one about Old?
or
One render that takes in the Old & the New?
or
Old in Bryce 5.? - NEW in Bryce 6.?

Sorry but I got problems sequencing.

But I would think it would have to be judged from the most recent ver. number as the catagories are Old and New.....A lot of folks may want to use objects they created in pre 6 in their New entry and in that respect it becomes a 6[New] entry object...rendered in 6 = New......rendered pre 6 = Old.....IMHO.. ...

@ bobby: Exactly

My initial reason for setting 2 judging categories was that Bryce 6 has some advantages over the previous versions, thus Bryce 6 entries will only be judged against other Bryce 6 entries, and the same for previous versions.
So, whatever Engine your final image is rendered in, regardless of the models you use or what version you created the textures in, the Final Factor is the Rendering Version.
I've created B5 files, re-rendered & tweaked them in B6, then rendered them in B6. These would fall into B6 judging.

The Subject matter (Content) matters not in the judging, it's only the theme.

I thought Frans question was pertaining to subject (theme) matter. Old Ring+a new Weddingdress, that sort of thing. Please correct me if I misread this.

Just one more Q, (not that it matters to me, I barely have time to do one render), but it is only one entry per person correct?

ps Sounds like a lot of fun, hope I can find some time to work on it.

"Why would you want to render in Ver. 5.x when you have Ver. 6.x ?.. ..."   I render animations occasionally in Bryce5 because that version will still allow you to animate materials and terrains/lattices which I can use either in Bryce or in other apps. As far as I know this feature is still "broken" in Bryce6. I'm sure ver.6 with its HDRIs and image-based lighting can still give you a superior render for still images.

SndCastie ( ) posted Mon, 07 January 2008 at 6:02 AM

Ok question do you have to model your own stuff or can you use some models you have gotten as I don't model LOL

That's exactly what I meant, Rod - the theme.  Thanks.  I immediately had an idea when I first saw the description of the theme - as you said, and old and new in one image.

I often use 5.5 because the 'object import' is still broken in B6 - any version.  In that imported objects arrive totally black and take no notice of the .mtl file - if you put an green colour or an orange or whatever colour you like onto a face in Wings, B6 will show that 'colour' as (usually) pink - but only when you soop up the diffuse.  B5.5 however shows the model with the correct colours.

B6 does have much better lighting do I often render in that when I want a particularly good end result.

If you import from Daz into Bryce6 - this also fixes the black import problem - but my point is that in Bryce5 - an extra step like that wasn't necessary - therefore Bryce6 is broken.

Hmmm, Sandy, that's a puzzling one.  But luckily for me I don't have Poser7. (baskes in that knowledge) Lol.

Um... I was just wondering - there's an update to Bryce 6.1 - I wondered if that would fix your problem?

There's some very odd numbering going on with bryce after B6, so all I was told (with my black import problem) was to reset the B6 in my download history at DAZ - and the newest version of B6 point whatever would be available.

If it was, it was renumbered as B6, not B6.1 or B6.1.14.whatever - just plain b6.

Naturally the black import was NOT fixed....

But you still might want to give it a go...

As long as she's willing to do the work I don't mind a woman being on top.

Back to the subject at hand however... I've had things come in black before. It was usually because the ambient setting was 3 or some such low number, not because the maps or color were actually gone. I can often ungroup then crank the values up to 90 to fix it. Just be sure to do it out of the way of other objects in the scene. It's easier to grab everything and regroup it afterwords.

**electroglyph,

**Well I don't think it's that the colour maps are gone exactly just that in B6  they are ignored and in B5.5 they are used.

For instance...

Here the image shows the cube as made in wings (inset) and the cube with the ambience all the way down to nothing is on the left and the one with the ambience all the way up to full is on the right - both as you see are dead black - this is in B6.

Now what you won't realise is that the side of the cube that appears to be bright green - is actually the pink side in wings.  The top (here pink,) is actually meant to be yellow, and the side facing left, which looks purple - is actually the orange side.

The way they should do.

Phew!  - Bobby, glad your migraine's better, just saw your post while replying to electroglyph.

You know, it's almost like B6 is using negative colours - the way Bryce produces colours under negative intensity light... isn't that odd.

Don't get me started on booleans and terrains  and animating materials while you are at it. There is a lot of busted stuff in B6. Now I'm getting a migrane.

You are talking about material definitions not image maps right? Sorry for the confusion. I was thinking you ment textures like you slap on a Vicki. You are talking about actually setting the object color in the mat file. I think this is something DAZ will have to fix.
