Subject: Evenly Distributed Trees

LMcLean ( ) posted Fri, 08 February 2008 at 6:21 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 1:00 PM

I need to create about 30 evenly distributed trees. If I do it by individually placing them, then it wil be a real pain not to mention a memory hog. I tried to create a distribution map and use that in an ecosystem tp place them, problem was I could never get single trees to appear like I need there were either a couple of trees or none in some spots. Any ideas how (or if) this can be done? Thanks

Maybe this is a job that is better done manually with the help of relicate/scatter. There you have a better control where the plants are defined and you later can modify the position (and the plants) to fine-tune the thing to your needs.

Personally I use "Extrapolate" for this type of thing!

Put your first tree in, copy it and paste it the distance you want from the first tree than run the extrapolate command using 28 to get your 30 trees.

I do not have an Extrapolate, is that an Inf only feature?

Using replicate or extrapolate or manually placing the trees will consume a lot of memory. Using ecosystem instances is much more efficient, memory wise. Here's how I would do this:

Create one cube and use the replicate or extrapolate command it in order to have 30 cubes in the place where you want the trees to be. Then, using the ecosystem paint command, paint one tree at a time right next to each cube.

EDIT: in the end, of course, delete the cubes. :-)

@keenart:

I'm not sure, but if you have it you can find it in the main menu, under "Edit", right below "Scatter/Replicate objects" command.

Wow these are all good ideas. Will have to try them and post my results! Thanks everyone.

There is NO PAINT feature in Vue6 ProStudio or below. It is an Infinite and XStream only feature.

*Using replicate or extrapolate or manually placing the trees will consume a lot of memory.

*I keep forgetting, I don't have memory issues anymore!!

See what I did there!!!
