Lighting can often make a lot of difference, have you looked at the interesting IBL/HDR thread in the forum?I'd also say that the real top artists seem to use a lot of detail to create their masterpieces, either painted artistic detail as in the faces, or faces and bodies of figures in their work, or else detail in the backgrounds, foregrounds and main focus if they are scenic rather than figure artists.
I keep telling myself that, so that's what I'm trying to improve on - adding more detail.
I've added the link to the HDRI thread, the multiple advisories is just for the scantily clad female, so don't worry about that, I think Rosemaryr just didn't want to offend anyone unnecessarily. - there is actually no infringement of Rendo's TOS at all.
So those two seem to be the two main things to look for, there are lots of others I know, but those two are fairly obvious on first impact:
Lighting and Detail.
Oh the IBL Lighting thread is in the Bryce Forum, but Bryce and Daz are intercontected anyway - and lighting is still important in Daz even if you're rendering in there.
Um, can DAZ use hdri's?

Hiya
I only worked with Daz studio 3 months. Im no expert on art or 3d.
But i post my renders in my Daz3d.com and Renderosity gallerys.
Everyone can be an artist these days when we have the software we do.
The gallerys is for everyone i believe. Everyone can post their renders, veterans and newbies(me being a newbie).
If we are lucky experienced people will comment on our renders.
And in that way we might learn a little bit new from every comment :)
I posted 3 newbie renders in my gallery.

So post your renders, and let people comment on them.
I do.
Best Regards

Don't give up. I started out doing images with Bryce and was doing the spheres over water/terrains untill i had a good understanding of the program. I found out about Daz Studio a couple of months after using bryce, ok i'm not a great artist but we all started out like you did.
I got heaps of poser/D|S freebies from the net and works with them..if you can't afford to buy to manything from here or daz3d just get enough to use...
I have opinions of my own -- strong
opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.
Looking for inspiration?
Just go outside and have a look around, take a look at your libary, turn on your television, listen to your favorite music, browse the galleries ....
And don't try to copy "big" artists, they may know a lot more then you (no offence meant), just get some experience before trying this.
Start with a simple scene, a plane, a character and place some spotlights (3 will be enough), use different colours and intensity settings, turn around the scene with your camera and every time you find an interesting point of vision do a render and do use shadows. And inspiration will come! ^_^
oh i can do bryce and terragen:) no probs:)but it can be a bit boring.i guess:)thanx for the tips etc tho'.) im gonna try to get back to baics with daz,and read tuts on it i think:P. .however, sometimes i get a good render:) but lately, man its been so little.:P
anywhooooo. im going to start right now, and see what i can do in daz:)
