Subject: How to get reflections

DigitalDreamsDS ( ) posted Sat, 23 February 2008 at 11:03 PM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 7:44 PM

How do I get reflections in glass using DAZ Studio. I have tried several ways, playing with the reflection, adding images and all that.
Please help.

Could you post a WIP to clearly see what you want to do?

Normally you tweak the reflection settings in your surface tab, if you want real reflections push it up to at least 50%, you can as well use a reflection map for faked reflections, which renders faster the the real ones.

If your using reflection without adding a map be sure you have things to be reflected from every angle the reflection might show. Try it with say the mil environment or something else that will give the glass something to reflect from all around.

Yes, you need something to reflect if you are not using reflection maps. You could simply put the object and cameras inside a large white sphere, or between two planes to get reflections, but something like the Millenium Environment would be better for a realistic scene. You will probably also need to add a light source. Render using the 3Delight renderer. The OpenGL renderer does not handle reflections well.

The reflecting surface might need to be tweaked a bit. Here's some generic settings for "Real" reflections to help you get started.

Specular
Glossiness - 100%
Color - RGB 192, 192, 192
Strength - 100%

Reflection
Color - RGB 192, 192, 192 (No map)
Strength - 75 to 95%

Lighting Model
Glossy Plastic

Like I said those are generic settings for a near mirror-like reflection. Yes you will need some light and something there to be reflected. Start with those and make adjustments as needed to get the desired effect for your scene. Hope that helps.

Sorry, i'm a newbye, for use the mirror setting, i must keep it on the surface of reflecting object (mirror or other)?

The material settings are for the surface you want to act as a mirror.
