Is anybody also getting the wrong extension while trying to export anything out of Carrara 6.1 Pro on a Mac?

It's not a really bad bug, it's just annoying. The workaround is to learn and type the extension manually.

On my machine when i try to export a model, for example to.car it append the extension, but if i change it the result is example.car.3ds, depending on the times i change the format, the last try is sphere.car.3ds.cae.obj!

Yes this is exactly what is happening to me. I am running Tiger 10.4.11

10.4.11 too.
Do you have also problems to load image files from a HD that is not your startup disk? Mark, you already know this nice thing;-)

 I've just reported it as a bug. On my system, each subsequent change actually loads in the incorrect file suffix. How exciting. 

Post back if you export and are unsure of the "real" suffix. Here's the usual suspects:

Wavefront = .obj
3D studio = .3ds
VMRL = .wrl

 TOXE: I don't think I have stumbled in to that bug yet. I keep my projects all in one nicely kept folders on a secondary HD that is not my startup disk. It seems to work fine (so far). Any particular file type I might be looking at?

Pinklet, any image format. With C6 can't read files form my second HD (inside my mac). All permissions are right.
But in the next week i hope to receive my new 8-core with Leopard, maybe is useless to crash my head now. BTW it's a strange thing!

I hope they fix it.  I haven't seen that in 10.4.10.  not for obj nor car files.

 TOXE: Wow 8-core. I am getting one too in the summer. Now as far as the bug, I have not stumbled in to that one yet. I have been using several Macs with different configurations, and I have not see this yet. I usually start a project on the desktop then move it to my "work" HD. But then if I continue working, I can access the files just fine. I did have a project that I could no longer open, but I wrote that off as a corrupted file. Now you are not referring to "runtime" stuff right?

The problem appear only with Carrara 6, not with C4 and with all the other apps including LW, Zbrush, MAxwell, etc. No, no runtime stuff, but with all my files. I got an "open error" with all the files that are located in other disks. There are worst problems in the life but...;-)

 One thing that might help you see what is going on. Their is an application inside your Utilities folder inside your Applications folder called Console.app. Have it running in the background and clear it's log, then attempt to reproduce the issue and see if you get a clue as to why this is happening. Also you might try to check your preference files. These are XML files that can, at times, get corrupted, this although unlikely, could be a culprit also.

tried both things, in the console nothing appear, and i've already tried to delete the preference file of carrara:-(

 Run the Disk Utility and fix permissions, but do starting up from your OS CD. In other words, don't do it while running your system. I have learned that simply running will not fix all permissions. While your at it, run also the Repair Disk portion of the utility.

 What leads me to believe that it's not a common bug is the fact that I have not seen it and I am running several systems (Two G5 towers and one iMac Intel 20"). So this leads me to believe that is something with your particular Mac that is happening that is not quite right.
